    Gotta love the Aussie troops.
I spent 4 years on Embassy duty "Down Under" in 84-88....And there was this gent who owned a pub I would go to.
Through him, I met a few Aussie vets from Vietnam.
Great guys to have a drink or two with.
RIP to those who return home. You are NOT forgotten by your mates.
Thank you all for your service.

It's now 2021. As an Australian I'm so proud of all those young men that went to Vietnam.
R.I.P. to those Vets that didn't make it home. You will always be remembered.

Are you aware grunger after this battle most of the opposition to the Australian task force ceased. Basically we had kicked their butts and wasn’t to keen on taking us on anymore. Also we buried their dead with full military honours which won us massive respect in the enemies eyes.

I am a Vietnam vet and an Artilleryman I was in charge of a 105mm howitzer on that afternoon when Long Tan erupted I am proud that we did our job well and helped our mates of D coy who were in a bad spot,It was a night to remember pissing down rain running out of ammo and getting HQ men down to unbox more ammo for us, we did not stop firing until it was over. Sadly some of D coy did not make it but as a "gunner"I will always be proud of the way all involved acted as a great team Armour, Artillery and of course, our infantry of D coy 6Bn and the relief column my memory of that night never fades,I will say one thing about "I was only 19"the fact is you had to be 19 to go on war service it only affected regular Army our Nashos were all 20 and 21 in my unit we all volunteered to go I believe most did volunteer my unit was 103 Field battery I field REgiment,I returned to Viet nam in 1970 but my tour was cut due to health reasons I still regret deeply that I could not stay with my gunners to finish the tour it is a low part in my 27 years as an Artilleryman.

My Dad went and joined up.
He left in 1991...a bitter and angry man about the way he & his mates were treated coming home.
Refuses to march and refused to go to the homecoming they did decades later.
He has his own reunions with the mates that are left.
My ultimate respect for all soldiers.

Well, salute to all Australian to fight for freedom, democracy, justice in last century Vietnam conflicts.Don/t blame too much,Australian together with South Korea,Philipines,USA to assist South Vietnam government to defense its nation of legitimate South Vietnam government after WW@,established in 1948,however,disrupting and distributing by North Vietnam government and engaged into prolong 30 years of civil war, definitely defeated, moral is slow in all units of army, air force and navy, plus successful slogan campaign launched by North Vietnam government, definitely defeated low moral of South Vietnam government, due to the fact of prolong jungle civil war, huge consumption of energy, fuel, manpower of South Vietnam, once moral is broken,South Vietnam definitely automatically surrender. As a matter of fact of huge and wide boundaries between North and South Vietnam plus Cambodia boundaries, very hard to defense,if not set up DMZ zone as Korea, installed fortress, army and air forces bases, underground sensor to stop huge network of tunnels systems penetration into cities for destruction, retreated country sides civilian and became no waste land in DMZ zones, move country sides civilian back to further south for relocation and re-education of democracy system and doctrine, and developing economy normally.South Vietnam government can existed. However, fighting in jungles as hit and run guerrilla warfare by North Vietnam, caused USA and allies in fatigue status in smash, humidity and wet jungles, once prolong for a while.USA and allies definitely withdraw from nonsense and costly jungle war,by the way South Vietnam government became corruption later on period and lost imitative mood to continue prolong war and that is why defeated at all.

Imagine if people refused to be soldiers to fight the German Werhmacht and SS during WW2. They would still rule France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Poland today. Because men became soldiers willingly and fought Nazi Germany willingly, Nazi Germany was defeated.
