Hello , Jad . What is the difference between 4th Suit forcing and XYZ after the sequence 1 C - 1 D-1 H or 1 C-1 D- 1 S ? When the rebid of the opener is 1 NT, its clear , what about if it s a new suit? How can we diferentiate 4thSF to an XYZ in this case ? A presentation of this 2 conventions in the mirror would be very useful .
    Regards

Hi Bogdan. I will be making an episode on XYZ in the future, but here is the quick answer to your question. With XYZ, the 2C and 2D bids are artificial and very specific, even if those suits have been bid previously. If you are playing XYZ, there is no need to play 4th suit forcing over a 1-1-1 sequence of bids. You just use 2D as the forcing bid. You still use 4th suit forcing if one of the first three bids is a suit at the 2 level. Of course you can’t use XYZ because that requires three bids at the one level. I hope this helps you. Cheers.

    Hello, Jad
Can we apply bidding conventions after the 2nd bid of the opener ? For example in open 1 H, partner bids 1 S and I bid 1 NT ( or 2 NT) . Can we plat Stayman after partner answers 2 C ( or 3 C) ?

Hi Bogdan, good question. Because you and Partner have already bid some suits, the answer to your question is no. Stayman and transfers don’t apply unless the 1NT is an opening bid. There is one exception but it is at the 2 level. If Partner opens 2C and you reply 2D and Partner bids 2NT you can use Stayman and Transfers. This situation is different because the only bids before the NT bid are artificial, so they don’t show a suit. Basically this sequence is a NT opening that is stronger than 2NT but weaker than 3NT.
