    Great content Lyle. Our cars are twins, even the shifter. Gives me much to look forward to (250,000 miles) as mine has a mere 63k. I'm 62. This is my weekly adrenaline pill. Thank you for sharing. You're not selfish doing your own car. Gald you did.
    Thanks, Scott

    I love my '99 C5 convertible. It's comforting to know you have over 250k on it and it still runs strong. I currently am just short of 160k but it runs like a racehorse. I think the C5 is the best looking of all the corvettes.

    My '92 had just over 200,000 when I bought it in 2014. The previous owner(s) didn't keep it up very well, so I'm basically restoring it. Still haven't put any miles on it. LOTS of new stuff everywhere. Right now it's getting a self inflicted paint job. Then rebuild the steering column and take it for a spin to the inspector. I love your videos, keep 'em coming!

    Another couple things you should also have in your emergency truck kit. A tire plug kit and a pair of needle nose pliers.

    • @mlc7boosted
      @mlc7boosted 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes sir. A few days after I purchased the 2004 C5 I got earlier this year, I went to my local Harbor Freight Tools and purchased a tire plug kit and that little yellow air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter, or the one under the arm rest. That and a pair of, you said it, needle nose pliers. A few days later, low and behold I came outside to go somewhere and the left rear tire was flat. Well, I plugged the tire, pumped it back up and hit the road to go for a cruise. No spare, no care.

    My C5 is a 2003 also. Not a Z06. Not a manual transmission. It has "only" 153,000 miles. I'm the 2nd owner, my dad was the 1st owner. Besides the AC compressor, water pump and radiator, it has been very reliable. I'm finally getting around to installing new plugs and wires. The originals are still in there.

    Lyle, I would buy a quarter-million mile car before I ever considered a “pristine” 17K mile one. The former has obviously been well maintained and superbly care for. The latter may have never had the oil changed and has sat in the garage for 95% of its life.

    Awesome 👏. I just started saving for a C7 Stingray, in 2 years I’ll have a hefty deposit and I’m going to finance the balance. I don’t want to test drive any Corvettes anytime soon until I’m ready to pull the trigger, don’t want to tempt myself from financing more than I need too. A C5 or C6 still maybe an option. Either one will be a manual coupe and hopefully a one owner well maintained one ! Preferably a Non Z51 since I don’t plan on tracking

    • @peterb4143

      There are fuzz covered window guides on the top of the door, one about at the middle and one at the rear. They could be worn out or out of adjustment. If the window moves up and down, the clamps at the bottom of the window glass could be loose. Repairs on this will require precise adjustments. Both jobs require taking the inside door panel off. Hope this helps.

      The shipping on those is really tough--dimensional weight makes it so that I can't ship for free (which I like to do) and it puts the price too high when added in. That said, I LOVE the product...it fits snugly but is easily removeable if you need more space and it does a VERY good job of cutting down the noise from the rear compartment--especially with loud racing exhaust like mine.

      I changed the front and rear sway bar links, but the bushings on C5's rarely fail with age...mine are still pristine. I installed KYB shocks a couple of years ago, and they are nice cruising units. If I were doing track work I would have changed to the C6 Z06 Shocks. I'm not sure what you mean by the clutch bypass clean-out, so tell me more about that. Change all of your fluids in the car at the same time if possible so that you have a baseline moving forward. It is on the third clutch from what I know. Not bad considering the mileage! Lyle

    Are the tire "run flats" ?

    • @Mazak23
      @Mazak23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, they’re conventional tires. The C5 Z06 never came with run flats. Only the C5 coupe, convertible and the 99-00 FRC came with run flats.

      @@Mazak23 did the Z06 come with a spare? I have a 2002 convertible

      @Mazak23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@patrickursomanno8861 No, the C5’s were the first generation to not carry a spare tire. The C5 Z06 came with a tire inflator kit that had an inflator pump and a bottle of tire sealant. It was on the right side of the trunk.

    I just put those same tires on my 02 Z51. Took it to a "track night in america", and I was very impressed with how they gripped.
    I'd love to see a video on the mods you did and why you did them, to your c5 track car.

      No, the clutch was replaced about 4 years ago before I bought the car. Stock Luk clutch currently installed. Lyle

    I need help with a 2001 Z06 roof leaking. I've replaced the windshield and the reveal molding etc. I think I rush replace the brackets 2k later it's leaking worse than it did before. It's pooling water in the rear trunk compartments and under the seat. I'm beyond frustrated. Please help lol.

    • @csvette
      @csvette  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure that the windshield replacement could cause leakage at the rear of the car like that...sounds like a separate issue. Check your drains in the rear body for blockages first. Lyle

    As to tires, I've always been a fan of Michelin's but not anymore. Like you, I went with the Continental Extreme's on my GS and I'll never go back to Michelin's. This was another great upload Lyle, but when you said, "battery drain," what exactly were you referring to? Thanks in advance and Save the Wave 🙋‍♂
