When I was a kid I had a kit called girders and panels, very similar to this..You built a tower but couldn't knock it down..and that's what I wanted to do?? I wish this stuff, I could have seen about 45 yrs ago.very interesting!!!!Keep up the time consuming work.I enjoy it..
When the ball went into the side of the tower, and the tower didn't immediately fall down, I was like seems like a strong structure, then as I say that the entire thing fell. xD
I am nostalgic about this, 9 years ago, I watched this on the computer, i was maybe 6? Here I am in 2020 quarantine because of the (demonetized) virus.
I was going to say: Cool design, it could be a good looking building if they actually made one like that. Then one marble brought everything down. And i was: Never mind!
+XadowMonzter well it would be a good building idea, but the reason why the entire building was brought down was because it was very large and in real life you cant make a marble that large in comparison with a building.
I'd be willing to pay good money for a game with pre-built structures like this that I could easily place next to one another and shoot things at. Why isn't that something I can buy? Someone make it please, and take my money.
@1JackXx1 I think the reson that it only took one bullet is because the bullet went into the core of the building, and the core is what provides the strength to a building. So once that's comprimised, than the rest of the building will enevitably collapse.
I've been watching a few of these videos lately. I have to say that, notwithstanding the interesting mechanics involved, I find it somewhat shocking the many mentions of beauty, wonderful, etc. To me, these videos are truly morbid. We all know what they are meant to represent: the crash of the jets and the collapse of the Twin Towers, and all the death and pain that came with it. I'm not trying to berate anybody. I don't know, I'm very ambivalent about all this.
I mean, the structure is shaped like a dome, you can actually see it collapse inward. So if you knock out a part of the dome, the structure becomes weakened, and since we have weight on it, the surrounding blocks can't compensate for the additional weight.
@larmannjan I've had similar problems before. To correct the spontaneous collapsing, you probably want to increase the margins of your collision bounds: go to the physics tab, check collision bounds, and increase the Margin setting. (Remember that you must set the renderer to Blender Game instead of Blender Render)
@kaitoukidkun lets not forget the structure is made of separate peace's that have no cement or nails to grab them together making it very easy to destroy.
Rlyug you are interested and I'll send it back in town for the only one of my resume and I am a good day I don't have a good day I don't have a good day I don't have a good time today or Monday I don't have a good day I don't have a good day I don't have a good day I
@annoythefish well except that you can clearly see the structure collapsing. As for WTC, that didn't happened, it just went down in 10 seconds since it started falling, without seeing the actual structure collapse. PLUS, this building has its structure eroded from the lower levels. If you shoot those bullets at the top, the whole structure won't fall (just the top).
9/11 "truthers" should really try playing around with these blocks a bit. This really illustrates how small stresses post impact can trigger collapse of the entire structure.
@username7046 Looks like it. They both abide by the same physical laws. The material properties are very different in comparison, but by using simplified models on a scale like this, surely you can see how the collapse could be compared/analyzed. The only major difference is the lack of an adhesive material to bind the structural blocks together. Plus, considering the amount of material for the internal structure, you could get away with considering it as hollow. ymirfrostgiant has a good point.
@larmannjan To reduce the chance of objects falling through the floor, you need to give the simulation a smaller step size. Go to the World tab (again in the Blender Game renderer option) and the physics step size settings are in the physics tabs. I haven't played around with the numbers there too much, but smaller numbers mean the physics simulation calculates positions and velocities more often, basically. Of course, decreasing this number might increase your simulation/bake times. Cheers!
Phymec, I love your CG work! Can I please use this clip in a video I'm making for ancient tower designs and archeological destruction's?? I'll FULLY credit you of course.
I wish you had shown what it looked like from the INSIDE... that ball, once it entered, must have bounced around and moved things... which exascerbated the collapse. would have been cool to watch heh
@sprocket1212 Don't compare a ball and a plane, which will deform on impact. And, the pieces are not attached to each other like in real buildings. They are just stacked.
Please think about it! The World Trade Center buildings are equipped with extremely strong steel support columns against strong earthquakes, negative natural events and fires. Passenger planes have a brittle aluminum body due to their structure. By disabling the laws of physics, can a passenger plane make a hole in the hulls of buildings?

These videos were a significant part of my childhood. I watched these when I was 10 years old in around 2010.
Now you’re watching when you’re 20 years old around 2020
Same

Holy crap the amount of nostalgia that smacked me in the face watching this is insane
the nostalgia I'm getting right now, the time I used to watch this as a kid, brings back the old memories
Beautiful. Would love to see this level of physics and object interaction in a video game.

Really sucks Phymec quit TH-cam, his content like this is great
First thing that came into my mind when the marble struck the tower-'Oh no, looks like we are in trouble'.
My heart actually sank because I had the feeling people were dying.

I made this in real life (with jenga blocks) and it do almost the same thing when hit with a ball! Good physics are what those are

Omg wat its a video for a few weeks i was looking for a game like this did my younger self really think i was playing a game the whole time????
With no interlining structures this would be the easiest structure to knock down no matter where you hid it from as long as it's towards the bottom
@ymirfrostgiant that's a good idea! of course you would have to bolt and weld all the blocks together.
