the worst part about it, I have a friend who got rear ended by a teenage girl, whom didn''t have her P or L's on the car, had camera footage of the hit and run, and immediately went to the police to report it. The cops just took the cam footage and information, nothing happened since then. When an actual crime has happened, the cops just shrug it off, but when your car sounds fast, they'll pull you over, soo dumb
I was a victim of a hit n run (sideswiped by a towed trailer). '000' call - police told me to report it at the local station. Did so, cop shrugged his shoulders, said "might have been your fault" and walked off. I stuck around and INSISTED it had to be REPORTED. Reluctantly, he took the details. He called the witness (who'd stopped and given me their details), TOLD the witness he COULD NOT HAVE SEEN a collision occur from behind me, and hung up. Turned to me and said "you've got no witnesses". Gave me a card with the reference number on it. I called my insurance company, they told me I'd pay FULL excess AND lose my no-claim bonus as "I had NOT identified the other driver". I kept calling police, quoting the reference number, asking for the other drivers details. They kept telling me "it takes time". After several months, I was told it had been closed off as a "minor collision" with NO investigation (no other driver details).
@@OhSoddit 000 is not for a car accident unless someone is injured. Never ever call 000 (police) for traffic unless someone is dying, the cars cannot be moved or there is a potential for violence. By all means call 000 for ambos but the cops don't care unless there is injuries that require hospital. You need a independent witness or video for the police to take action. If they could charge people without any witness or video evidence then people could just start reporting people they don't like with zero evidence
just like how they used a kid in a skyline in NSW years ago that banned P platers banned from driving turbos. But an EV that drives FASTER than ICE cars are allowed?
@@TalismantraThat is not what is implied. Way more people die in regular cars than performance cars each year. It is amazing, you can die in a 50kph crash just as easily as one at 110kph.
@@dimmacommunication The worst sign in existence"new limit". They rebuild a single lane road into a divided double lane highway that's massively safer and then lower the speed, it's ridiculous.
the fact that there is no practical test proves it isn't about safety, you can't judge someone's ability to handle a high performance car without having them drive one
It could be more about awareness for drivers so they think about where they mash the pedal, or a deterrent to driving like an idiot on public roads, or another tick in the box for a judge to say you were educated about the rules but still crashed your 1000hp barra powered Silvia or Lambo backwards into a school bus. Agree a driving course should be part of it, but tack on 3 grand extra for that
We wouldn't need an "additional test" if the current "driving test" for a standard licence actually tested requirements of modern driving instead of checking where my hands are on the wheel and whether I can parallel park without hitting the curb! How about including at least two freeway entrances in each test and scrapping making sure I don't scratch someone's bumper when parking?
Thank the Gen Z's for ruining literally everything. I'm a gen z myself but I realise how we are ruining everything, it sucks. Nothing is how it use to be back in early 2000's when everything was bloody simple
Kinda crazy motorcycles are exempt from this dumb rule. My 23 year old Honda has 489kw per tonne and that's nothing on more modern bikes. Typical government don't know shit about nothing, just make stuff up as they go.
They should be exempt. Because how would they calculate the weight of the bike. Should it be the weight including the rider or no rider. The power to weight ratio will vary too much

This is a direct result of the "If you don't do the wrong thing you have nothing to worry about crowd" Well what are you going to do now when doing absolutely nothing is considered the "wrong thing"?
This is what I hate about Australia. The disconnect between the people and the authorities. Most Aussie people are laid back and easy going just as everyone thinks. But our politicians, authority figures, etc are so out of control and crack down on all fun
It's insane for a country like ours, thats used to be so car centric, building and racing them, that we are so demonized nowadays for liking cars and modifying them. So sad.
read some of the old Australian car mags from the late 50's and 1960's before the present lot of rules were implemented ,especially around the Whitlam era. One thing that's instantly apparent is the large numbers of companies making things like wheels, body work ,accessories, and a large variety of "speed equipment" Not one of those companies survived the 1970's. It was as if the Lima Agreement was deliberately designed to make nations like ours poorer by promoting the lack of initiative and innovation that was around prior to that point in time. Then go on line and look at Gt Britain where there's a huge kit car industry as an example and innovation is lauded, not despised by bureaucrats on 7 figure salaries as in Australia.
There is an odd part of our culture that says "don't rock the boat" like being different makes you contemptible. There's a lot of old abuse that stems from our history of being colonized by foreign nations and being a prison colony
Your car is registered and linked to your license. They already know. If you don’t have the licence but do have a know high powered car when you drive past highway patrol their camera that reads your plate will let them know you do not have the appropriate licence.
What? Did you think prior to writing that? The government already knows who drives what; it's called rego, licence and your address is on both, and your face is on your licence and if you do dumb and dangerous things on public roads and it gets filmed, whether or not you put it on social media, or if your plate number is unreadable, they know what you look like.
I'm leaving this country first opportunity I get. This is not the country I grew up in. First they took our guns now it's the cars (again) I don't recognise Australia today.

117 people has died on South Australia already, 65% higher than last year. Lowing the speed limit is not helping at all, it making it worst. Other countries around the world are raising the speed limit to lower road toll and it is working.
@@RossReviewsauI honestly think it has a lot to do with the mentality of the drivers, when I got my licence it was my 16th birthday, I was allowed to go for my P's one week later. I don't care what anyone says there were a lot less deaths on the roads then. You give someone their P's now after doing more than a 100 hours of learning and a majority of them think they are as good if not better than F1 drivers
I couldn’t agree more. I lived in Germany in the 90s. Back then it cost 10k to get a licence and a lot of training. Day, night, snow, high speed, what to do in emergency situations. The training manual was like a phone book. And that’s why it’s so great to drive there. People take driving seriously.

Australia is becoming authoritarian at an alarming rate. I was born here in Aus and I'm considering expatriating. The recent legislation passed through the senate has made me realise that this country will become a liability to my children's future.
Many Australians seem to passively accept these absurd policies, behaving like sheep. This compliance enables the government to impose even more restrictions.
I don’t know how much more the taxes can increase, the fines go up, and the penalties get more egregious for the smallest infringements. Australians have never distrusted the government more than right now and continually implementing these harsher penalties is only going to exacerbate this problem. Australians love cars, and it’s awful that a tastefully modified and clean car can be defected and enthusiasts are targeted when so many other uneducated and careless drivers are the ones causing the issues on the roads.
the government wants a us to riot than they can lock us down for good they didn't buy all those guns a few years back not to use them where i live the police always doing gun training , while crimes go unsolved

There are so many amazing things about Australia and Australians,. Politicians aren't one of them. They make me sick to my stomach. Dregs in the afterbirth of society.

Let's face it fellas this has all to do with fucking off all ice cars of the roads, not only in Australia but also the whole world. I don't understand how all these laws can be implemented by some bureaucrats that sit on their asses for most of the year, every law that is implemented should be voted on by the people, not correct politicians, the constitution is law. If you can afford a Ferrari or a Lambo $65 or even $2500 is peanuts. And what's Albo got to do with this, licensing and speed limits are enforced by the states, not the federal govt. Also, double demerits only apply to certain fines, mainly speeding, not wearing seatbelts, and using mobile fones while driving.
They can’t prove how much power a modified car makes. It’s an absolute shitshow money grab but there’s too many ways around modifying. The fact that it’s an online course just proves it’s a cash grab.
This is the most Australian thing ever. If they really gave a shit about reducing incident numbers, they would focus on things that would actually have an effect: practical defensive driver education, foreign driver standards and road conditions. Hard to argue that this is just anything other than a money grab. Bloody Typical.

I wonder if there will be insurance implications as well - like lets say if its provable that you binned your car while in sports mode, if the insurance company could weasel their way out of paying out.
It is likely provable if you can get into the computer. I've seen the data that came out a 2013 SS Camaro after a head on collision. It's insane how much is recorded. Throttle input, speed and engine RPM for the 10 seconds before the crash, ALL the G forces during collision. If it had a sports mode, I assume it would log what state that was in too

Well, all laws exist because someone was an idiot. The eternal debate is about how far you take it, how restrictive the laws should be, the balance between personal freedoms and the good of society. This kind of law is more about making money and being "seen" to be doing something. It will not actually achieve anything in terms of public safety The "test" for this license is pointless. What really needs to happen is a more rigorous training and testing system to graduate from P plates. Being stuck on P plates should be a thing for bad drivers. But it's more important to get everyone driving in order to collect the fees and taxes.
Surely they can't make you do a dyno run...... Not everyone wants to do a dyno run because of the obvious, being you can damage your car. Now picture this, they enforce that you do a dyno, turns out your car which you worked hard for to buy and mod, end up producing 275kw per ton (so you haven't done ANYTHING WRONG) then your car say blows up during the run, who is liable to pay for that? Old mate who hasn't done anything wrong, or the gruberment? I hate this place, and i have zero idea why anyone would want to move here.....
@@anthonygenovese7578 bro they would never do mandatory dyno runs. they don't give that many fucks. they'll just impound everyone on suspicion and charge you $10k to get it back, under the veil of enforcing safety and discouragement of internal combustion. easy money, like an Atari at an ATM
I did always wonder why would someone buy a super car in Australia with those speed limits, its a total waste, not to mention running around with a GT3 while doing 60 or even 100.
Devil's advocate: This "stupid" rule is unfortunately very necessary. Sports Mode is far too often abused by the absolutely insufferable owners who insist on hearing pops and crackles ALL THE TIME. In the process, destroying the peace everywhere they go. It's gotten too far out of control and I would argue they need to crack down much harder on hooning/roadrage behaviour with double the fines and double the demerits with triple the unmarked police patrols. Then we might finally see improvements with road users adhering to the road rules and exercising a bit of respect.
Can we please just admit that australia is turning authoritarian with these laws and the social media bill. And more i can go on about but this isnt the spacefor it
Just put it on a track, mate. I've seen too many wankers who can't drive I've owned performance cars all my life, but if you can't drive, you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a performance vehicle. This is the result of poor driver behaviour resulting in a reaction from government. Guess who's to blame, because it isn't the government.

Let's be honest with ourselves, some people should most certainly not be behind the driver's seat of a powerful vehicle. Not sure an extra license is the go. I have a truck license but I haven't driven one in 10 years. Don't give me a truck, no good will come of it...
I bet everyone bitching about this thinks they are Artyon Senna incarnate.. I would guess as a truckie you saw some shit in your time, i reckon 20% of the people i come across on the roads shouldnt be trusted with a push bike..
Once again motorbikes seem to be non existent. They are ultra fast and loud. Some Harley’s are deafening. Never any issues with them. Love bikes, don’t get me wrong but it seems to be one rule for one and one for the other.
Years ago, a South Australian Senator Tom Koutsantonis Was traffic minister He bought a Holden V8 hsv He lost his licence for constant speeding fines. Lost his portfolio. He was given prisons portfolio. Go, figre!
Disabling your electronic safety is different to putting it into sports mode. Most of those modes don’t disable your safety features. The legislation specifically says to not disable it but as it’s written disabling is very different from changing modes which will change the thresholds of said systems. If you turned it all off then that’s a different story. But most mode toggles especially a simple sports mode won’t be an issue.
My sports mode toughens the suspension, firms the steering wheel, opens the exhaust, holds revs longer and locks the diff and turns traction control partially off... Yeah sports mode can be seen as turning off traction control.. And this vehicle is engineered /stock too 😂
Why are you showing pics of the PM as if road rules are a federal responsibility. If you know anything about Australia, you would know that road rules are a state responsibility.
I did the U-Class license for my modified falcon and I am not even joking, it was 30 minutes of just reading google searches. It cost $60 to just be told the same thing that I could find if I Googled "what does ABS mean" and then an additional $20 to apply it and re-print my license. Do I feel safer driving my car or if I enter any other car with more than 450kw (270kw/t)?? Nope, it achieved nothing. -Edit: You could genuinely learn more from a track day or hell even an empty parking lot than this stupid license.
Well people may have a crack at me. However just look at our firearms laws for firearm owners, there over the top and only government can have what they want. It will soon come to vehicle owners now. You missed the best part, it's technically power at the flywheel, so there's a decent grey area (if someone is having a particularly bad day) that they could ping you for you.
its NOT grey, there is simply a set criteria. No-one is doing dyno checks buddy. A vehicle may be considered a UHPV if it has: a gross vehicle mass of up to 4.5 tonnes, and. a power to weight ratio of 276 kilowatts per tonne or more.. FACTORY SPEC..
@@BassMatt1972 determining correct power in a modified vehicle is infact quite grey, as it is completely determined from flywheel/engine power, which is stated on the SA gov website like this: "this calculation can be made from the manufacturer's specifications" which is always engine power. So if for a modified vehicle you have had your engine dyno'd, then you probably have a good idea. Otherwise if you're ol mate that has slapped a turbo on something and would the boost up, you can not accurately determine engine power from the rollers or chassis dyno. Whilst there are good calculators, some having a bad day could cause you a significant amount of inconvenience or hefty fines. As another real world example here just to send it home, my Evo 9 wagon weighs 1540kg (according to manufacturer spec) that would mean if my engine outputs more than 425hp (317kw) I would need to apply for the licence, if you accurately tell me what that power is to the wheels, through gearbox loss, transfer case loss, diff loss and wheel choice, I'd be quite impressed. Let alone if you could work backwards given a certain dyno number. Needless to say it's a stupid licence and better driving education is critical.
I have got to feel sorry for the speed freaks of today. Back in my time ( yeh I am old now ) the 70s 80s we could almost do anything. Sure we did not have today's equipment or technology but modifying cars was not so "fround upon". We had early style turbo's and super chargers and performance cams and we would stick them on what we had. I still have my HR Holden 186ci Station Wagon I got in 1970 as a young shit, tricked it up a bit and then put a Turbo on it. Drove it in South Australia and around the country and no police gave a crap. Yeh!! I feel sorry for you and that my time has ended.

I probably wouldn’t complain if they made you do a few hours on a race track with a professional instructor to learn the limits of the car. This is more about making money than safety. You can’t put your hyper car in sport mode, but you’re free to drive a sh*tbox with no airbags, ABS or traction control. Shameful and insulting to our intelligence. Next, you can’t use 98 octane, can’t pot a K&N sticker on your back quarter window, can’t paint your callipers red… and let’s not forget that just about every 1000 cc motorbike these days would exceed that.
I live in Perth WA I have no doubt that this will be coming here as well in the near future! The speed limit down south are already going to be changed. Some 110kms roads are coming down to 80kms I believe 😢 Seriously need to find away to steer the focus to driver education! Definitely need to implement defensive driving courses into schools and a mandatory factor for gaining a licence 🤔

I'm gonna do devils advocate/counterpoint for you. It seems that the U class isn't about the driver's capability - rather it's about accountability through consequence, i.e. a high performance driver will/should think better before taking reckless risks on a shared carriage way and/or in vicinity of unrelated pedestrians/property. Your point about engine power being irrelevant doesn't hold up and comparing to other vehicle types being more dangerous due to their potential when combined with the standard licenced Aussie driver is misguided. It actually illustrates the reason as to why a U class has come about (notwithstanding your valid assertion that standard vehicles are too powerful and as such potentially dangerous when operated by the standard licenced driver). Other drivers being unsafe/reckless is not a justification for high performance vehicle drivers to cry about being targeted. You're part of a society of drivers, which for better or worse has a base level standard of ability (Governments are seeking to improve that via the L and P class minimum requirements). A select group of drivers who, for legitimate and acceptable reasons, enjoy higher performance vehicles share the same space as the general group; and, human nature being what it is there's always going to be individuals or worse still group think that manifests as elitism or ego centric over confidence. That aside, even if all high performance drivers were F1/Rally super-humans, there's still the general broader driver community who can be unpredictable when sharing the same space where a high performance vehicle is operating outside their general/baseline level of experience. So, it stands to reason that the Government whilst still allowing you to pursue your hobby will nonetheless do what it can to 'encourage' you and your fellow high performance vehicle drivers to stay safe - in this case by influencing your attitude (no one wants to be bankrupted or have fewer xmas pressies under the tree). Your emotive whinge doesn't offer any alternative for preventing another innocent child's death. I'm totally fine with your hobby being held accountable and frankly your superficial acknowledgement of the child's death and immediate subsequent dismissal of it as you go on to essentially state 'it's not fair' shows that your attitude is part of the problem, which it seems is what the SA Government is attempting to address.

the fact that there is no practical test proves it isn't about safety, you can't judge someone's ability to handle a high performance car without having them drive one
I would support the license if it required an additional test, in a high powered car.
It could be more about awareness for drivers so they think about where they mash the pedal, or a deterrent to driving like an idiot on public roads, or another tick in the box for a judge to say you were educated about the rules but still crashed your 1000hp barra powered Silvia or Lambo backwards into a school bus.

The "test" for this license is pointless.
What really needs to happen is a more rigorous training and testing system to graduate from P plates.

The legislation specifically says to not disable it but as it’s written disabling is very different from changing modes which will change the thresholds of said systems.

My sports mode toughens the suspension, firms the steering wheel, opens the exhaust, holds revs longer and locks the diff and turns traction control partially off... Yeah sports mode can be seen as turning off traction control.. And this vehicle is engineered /stock too 😂
6:11 One of the questions states that even 'attenuating' a safety feature is equivalent to disabling it under the Road Traffic Act. 🤯
@@Kenjitheninja well thank god I do t live in SA then.
Sports mode is illegal they deem anything that even partially changes or limits stability controls is illegal
Why are you showing pics of the PM as if road rules are a federal responsibility. If you know anything about Australia, you would know that road rules are a state responsibility.
lmao does that mean if i take the au out of economy mode i get in trouble
If she makes 500kw 🤣
@@RossReviewsau awww yeah yeah yeah nah narrrr narrrrrrrrrrr
ur shitpost with the barra swapped one came straight to mind
You headline is not true. You can drive a high powered car if you have the appropriate licence. What is your problem. Stupidity has consequences.
Pure money grab
It achieved your wallet being lighter by $80 bucks... which is the only real reason this is happening.
@@deanbosci5528 that and probably added liability they can dump on U class holders.
Well people may have a crack at me. However just look at our firearms laws for firearm owners, there over the top and only government can have what they want. It will soon come to vehicle owners now. I'm one of them too. Only way to stop this is to fight. Stand up and say no. With hold tax do what ever but if we don't say no more then left will keep taking and taking.
My country does not understand defending freedoms of others are defending thier own. PS grow a set and get a bike ;-)
Withhold tax?!
That's pretty funny.
Please explain how you would do that.
Cars are not like guns. The only purpose of a gun is to injure or penetrate.
This country is totally fucked …. I’m from sa and let me tell ya, no one can fkn drive for shit here.
It Breaks my heart as a car enthusiast to go through all this shit.
Keep up the good work mate 🤙🏼
its sad.. we will most likely be the last generation of car enthusiasts
if motorcycles are exempt, then classics should be too, if it has to exist, it should be a grandfathered law for new purchases. -from a motorcyclist
just had to add, if we are this concerned about performance then electric cars should have acceleration capped by the same logic
So, it's not illegal, you just need a certain licence in SA. Ok.
No its illegal even with the licence 🪪
Just wondering what speed limits are for then? What about special licences for EV's that no-one can hear coming?
I agree with that
it wont be RBT's anymore, it'll be a RDT (Random Dyno Testing) aha, SAPOL setting up mobile rolling roads.
Speed limit is 110 kph. There laws for going to fast already.
More tax suits the government
They hate car enthusiasts for no reason. Not so much for this law because it makes sense. It's still crazy but makes sense. But im talking about everything. Before you know it, they're gonna make us drive electric cars only within a matter of time
They just want money 💰
@@RossReviewsau Legit. Not just our government. It's everyone
maybe we should fine the government and police for once, get it taken off taxes
We need a new system
This is very interesting because I have been watching some drag race car comparison's on TH-cam and the Tesla is faster than some Lambos. 🤔could it be this is a back door way to stop EV's ?????
Most EVs won’t need it because they are too heavy! So they are not only faster at accelerating but much heavier, what could go wrong 😑
All Hail Klaus Swabb...Digital ID Agenda!!!
Of course it's a fee and a quiz. It's the government for fucks sake.
You missed the best part, it's technically power at the flywheel, so there's a decent grey area (if someone is having a particularly bad day) that they could ping you for you.
Very true also
its NOT grey, there is simply a set criteria.
Yeh!! I feel sorry for you and that my time has ended.
sounds more like a way for the government to make car enthusiasts tell on themselves.
Yup
good thing I drive a car that only slow mode and slower mode.
In australia everyone feels so safe, warm and fuzzy😂😂
That quiz really helped me sleep at night
The government needs to recover some of the countries debt
They will tax anyone successful.

Our grubberment isn’t about making sure you can drive, they just like to force you to “comply”.
5:27 no overhead just pure profit baby - I sell stickers - I can only imagine mandating everyone get one or else they have to pay 1000% more in a fine so just give me $60.
Next, you can’t use 98 octane, can’t pot a K&N sticker on your back quarter window, can’t paint your callipers red… and let’s not forget that just about every 1000 cc motorbike these days would exceed that.
absolutely i could agree with a proper track day learning exercise to get the licence.. this online quiz is a money grab with the big fines attached..
I live in Perth WA
I have no doubt that this will be coming here as well in the near future!
The speed limit down south are already going to be changed. Some 110kms roads are coming down to 80kms I believe 😢
Seriously need to find away to steer the focus to driver education!
Definitely need to implement defensive driving courses into schools and a mandatory factor for gaining a licence 🤔
It’s a disgrace what’s been happening lately
It really is disappointing to see Australia heading the way they are.
You mentioned opening up the exhaust
Can someone explain why vehicles have to be so loud when they’re doing 60kph or in the kfc drive through?
I understand it’s for performance but people be annoyingly loud and not performing. If it www a workplace you’d be required to use hearing protection
Yet you can drive a 800hp lambo on your L plates
🤣🤣🤣😂
No, NO YOU FKN CANT.. Not in South Australia
In South Australia, learner drivers (L-platers) can drive any car that is not a high-powered vehicle (HPV) or UHPV.
#SLOWCLAPFORYOU
Where?? Also what insurance company is going to ensure an "L" plater to drive an 800hp lambo?? Actually I just checked online and the ACT, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania allow "P" platers to drive 800 HP Lamborghinis, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia they're banned for "P" plate licence holders, but I don't know anything on "L" platers
@@MFFMPNL platers, (at least in queensland) can drive any car they want as long as it’s registered, and someone who’s had their opens for 5 years or something is in the passenger seat. I drove a 700whp gtr on my Ls. It’s such a silly rule.
That was a while ago it may have changed now? Idk
@@mapple4910 not sure how long you’re going back, but I’ve lived in Brisbane for nearly 30yrs and L platers and P platers aren’t allowed to drive high powered vehicles such as V8s, turbo, supercharged even some Teslas etc etc are all prohibited for these license holders as they’re classed as high-powered motor vehicles… 3yrs ago I was giving my daughters partner (at the time) driving lessons in my wife’s A45s and were pulled over, luckily the officer let us off with a warning🤞🏽 he also said the only reason he pulled us over was because of the L plate on a high powered vehicle, in all honesty I didn’t even think of it, lucky because he said i to would get a hefty fine… I also just checked on Queensland Government site for confirmation… also I’m sure these restrictions have been in place as long as I’ve been here because I can remember in the late 90s a mate was waiting to get his open license so he could buy a WRX Impreza…
Edit: just double triple checked (as I wasn’t 100% sure if the restrictions applied to both L and P platers) but YES the restrictions are for both L and P plate holders and this was updated: 12th June 2024… so you’re very lucky not to have been pulled over in the GTR, but then again you may have got a decent officer who may have let you off with a warning👍🏼👍🏼😉 it’s very rare but I have come across 1 or 2 decent ones 👮🏻♂️
Anyone with a CAMS license should be exempt
Oh but then daddy government doesn’t get that sweet cash 💰
