What I love about the Hippo is that it often catches our opponents by surprise. At worst, you have very good drawing chances because it's so tough to crack. It's always a good feeling when you find that One True Opening for you!
That's right!!! Ya it took me FOREVER, but I finally found the opening for me. You're one of the subscribers that comes to mind when I drop Hippo content. Keep it up!
There’s more & more content coming out on the Hippo, so regrettably it’s only a matter of time until some theory starts to form around the sharper lines, but even if it does our trusty friend Stockfish will show us they way to fight on. So fear not, fellow Hippo players!
HOW REFRESHING AND ON POINT THIS IS! ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD TO EVERY SINGLE VIDEO, SOLOMON. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER FINE EXAMPLE OF WHY IT IS THAT YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE ONES I NEVER WANT TO MISS. BLESSINGS YOUR WAY BUCKO. MIKE.
Hi the Chess Giant, hi everyone ! I totally agree with the fact that it is better to play an opening we are at ease with ; and this, just because of our emotions. We are humans right, and even if chess helps us to improve our self control, etc, we also have our own personality and sensitivity. Therefore, playing an opening we feel and like makes us more peaceful in front of the chessboard and, consecutively to think better. Croissants et cafés from France to the chat !
Loved the anecdote about the kids laughing at your expense. 😅 when I came out of retirement and got my butt kicked by the kids, that’s exactly what happened to me and it almost made me give up…almost
Lol I started with the Caro Kann too! I still look forward to playing it every time someone plays e4. But i always play the super strong Botvinnik-Carls against the advance. I always have the advantage out of the opening no matter how strong my opponent!
@@TheChessGiant I always lose against 2k rated players. But I always come out of the opening with an advantage! Need to learn more about middlegames and engages.
@@TheChessGiant Mate I've come to really enjoy your videos, tips and lessons. And I'm so chuffed that you got your NM title bro! All the very best to you and yours.
So IMO the basic purpose of an opening is to set up the board for the middlegame battle, and hopefully you get an advantageous "terrain" by the end of the opening. (This of course is assuming you don't get the win or a crushing advantage in the opening itself.) I am about 1500 on a good day, and have been playing the Jobava London as White and the King's Indian Defense/Pirc as Black, with very decent success. I like both aggressive and slow improvement styles of play. I have been struggling a bit with the Hippo but like it, as another opening that takes my opponent out of his theory/comfort zone. I will eventually try the Hippo as White. I will buy your Hippo course in a couple of days when a paycheck comes in.
Great video. The Hippo is a double fianchetto opening. Did you play a single fianchetto opening ( eg. Modern/Pirc, Owen's defence ) to get used to playing a fianchetto opening before you tried playing the Hippo?
It's funny you mention this, I was playing the Owen's Defense for awhile, without knowing I'd ever play the Hippo exclusively in tournament chess. I was also playing the Larsen's Opening for white! So this isn't a terrible idea at all! Although I will say I think the Hippo has a lot more ideas/potential than either of these.
Hello chess Giant, this isn't really about your vid, but I would like to know how you accepted balding ? I am also balding at 21 but I just want to kms tbh

What happened with your basketball career BTW? I heard that if you are over 7 feet tall there is something like a 20% chance you make it to the NBA.
