best review you've done in a while! wished i had this version! as a dad with little kids, i also see a choking hazard with those tiny red pellets besides the possibility of blinding someone. i wished this toy had been this fun with all that extra stuff when we were kids! :D
people have freaked out before. which sucks. A story I heard: Some kids back in the 80s were playing with their Transformers outside. One of them had Megatron on him in the gun mode. A cop saw this and thought the gun was real and ended up shooting the kid. Not sure if it's true or not, but given the way cops are these days it seems viable.
Toolala I think Gun-Robo was just the sublabel for the guns, kinda like how all the Diaclone cars were called Car Robots. They were part of the Microman line.
Oooooh, kickin' it old school :D I'm always consistently impressed by this figure; he's so elaborate, the transformation is beautifully involved. Okay, he looks hardly anything like the classic image of Megs we've all come to know and love, but the bot mode looks like a walking battle platform of crotch-triggered death. Excellent stuff! George
I bought this Takara version of Megatron MISB for £35, which was a great deal. I bought him about 2 and a half years ago. Only trouble is, the arm that holds the fusion cannon became very very loose on mine in the space of about a few days. The right leg followed suite about 2 weeks later. Reagrdsless of that, he is a wonderful toy, and a worthy addition to any collection. Great review.
Funny thing, the Walther P-38 never did have any of those attachments manufactured for it, but in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." there was a famous prop of the P-38 that was modified into a sniper-type weapon, and the specific, special-edition version of the Micro Change P-38 GunRobo that became Megatron was deliberately made to mimic that prop. So it's both realistic (since it copies a specific real life prop) and it isn't (since neither the WW2 P-38 or postwar P-1 never had those mods in reality).
Darn it. why are your vid so addictive to watch. I was already going to bed knowing that it's already 3am in the morning and i have to wake up early to go to work so I just open the video on my firefox tab thinking that I'd just watch it tomorrow night... ... turns out I actually watched the whole thing right to end in the same night :3
"Tickle Me Megatron" -Pull the trigger and Megatron laughs - Pull it 5 times continuously, he fires his Fusion Cannon XD Great review, wish I could afford him :(
Love the intro. Love that you did this toy as a review cos... I have this extra reissue! :) And yes, ball joints and swap-able heads are definitely for lesser toys. :)
@MrVash104 my g1 version wasn't sold with any ammo, it did however do the "clicking" thing, so maybe it could but just had nothing to fire. Can't speak for the US version.
Y'know, a few years ago, I somehow managed to get my hands on a MISB Encore Reissue version of this fellow, in an American store - and without that orange plug. I don't know how the shopkeeper got him, but I'm proud of him and he's one of the crown jewels of my collection. He's safe in storage for now, though. I only made one mod, using a smaller Reprolabels style Decepticon symbol on his chest because the one that came with him is a bit too large and kind of seeps over the end of his chest.
There's another modality for the giant cannon, the black pieces form a seat for Micromen guys (and also in scale with Action Masters). Great toy, I love the engineering, the die-cast and the realism^^
@14thief theres always tfsource, they ship it to pretty much everywhere, i live in brazil and got a megatron from them, because it seems to somehow get in the country without taxes, bus it costs around 80$
I know that the US version didn't come with the plastic bullets, but was the firing mechanism still present on it? Could you use the bullets and fire them on an old American G1 Megs?
@Vange1us .......vangelus, please tell me where I can find this figure. But not just a copy or reissue, I want this exact same one you just reviewed. (TF collection 6) Pleaseeee...whereee??????
Top of the line Great review(smart, detail, informative and full of cheesy jokes)....Please Do more classic transformer reviews G1 Agree never had the thing as a kid and still do not have it.....(Have multiple MP)but its wierd to think this was the deceptic on leader........G1 shockwave looked so much cooler as a figure
@MrVash104 .....I know you wrote this down a long time ago, but hey, just wanted to say...it is a fair price in the USA. I found it on amazon for US170. And it is very unlikely you'll find it any cheaper nowadays. I personally love this toy, and dont regret spending that much money on it. Cheers!
To me...don't you mean Tomy. Ha, ha! Yeah it was a pity that Sunbow and Marvel didn't write a story that made the animators at Toei draw him with all his accsessories attached to try and shoot down a space shuttle or something? Hey, the shuttle could be carrying energy or energon or a possibe replacement for energon that made the Decepticons more powerfull...Ok, enough rambling. Great review. :)
That Cannon actually did show up in the cartoon.... just long enough for starscream to shoot through its Magazine for no reason and blow it to bits also for no reason.
I saw a picture of an unproduced prototype of Megatron when he was in the Microchange line, his crotch was waaaay better done. I just wish it was produced :(
Is it just me or does anybody else remember a very tiny Megatron(Generic not called Megatron)toy almost like a small Key-chain but was all black I had 2 of them one I opened up the other one I kept in the packaging but my sister stole it, the packaging was really cheap it was a thin card board back & semi hard plastic around the toy,the toy transformed just like Megatron without all the intricate details,I got it from a Chinese merchant that sold cheap toys but this1 was an imitation Megatron.
I've got one even better for you: G1 Optimus Prime Reissue, MISB, US35. On a Buy-It-Now auction. And there's more than 10 still available; with 31 sold already.
"And by "her" I mean, rule 63 megatron." lol, Vangelus predicted Mega Empress.

Megatron's even older than you think - the copyright stamp dates his design back to the 70's!
Tetsuron DIA...........CLOOOOONE
*****
Don't you mean MEEEKUUROOOMAN
***** i think you mean "DIA........CROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE"
Tetsuron Wasn't it gun-robo where this guy originally released with browning and the magnum?
Toolala I think Gun-Robo was just the sublabel for the guns, kinda like how all the Diaclone cars were called Car Robots. They were part of the Microman line.

Really enjoy all ur vids Van- keep up ur good work.
So glad you put that bubble wrap up. I winced when you pointed Megs at your monitor
"Tickle Me Megatron"
-Pull the trigger and Megatron laughs
- Pull it 5 times continuously, he fires his Fusion Cannon
XD
Great review, wish I could afford him :(
I've had this thing over seven(?) years now and I'm still using the mouse pad.
Awesome figure! Love G1 forever!! Love G1 masterpiece too!! 😍👍🏻
Love the intro. Love that you did this toy as a review cos... I have this extra reissue! :) And yes, ball joints and swap-able heads are definitely for lesser toys. :)

@Vange1us i would really like to see some more of your G1 toy reviews!
A thing of beauty, And one kickass review, great stuff.
Y'know, a few years ago, I somehow managed to get my hands on a MISB Encore Reissue version of this fellow, in an American store - and without that orange plug. You inspired me to play with my 1984 release Megatron. Very few can do that.
One thing I definitely like about the G1 Megatron is the colour scheme.
There's another modality for the giant cannon, the black pieces form a seat for Micromen guys (and also in scale with Action Masters). Great toy, I love the engineering, the die-cast and the realism^^
As someone who grew up with the G1 toys, (and cartoon!) I salute you!
G1 Takara Optimus Reissue comes with the Axe, so this goes well with that version when displayed together.
Fists: "Woahwoah! Hey! Hey! We don't have to protect you from an angry person with a firearm!"
I guess you could say Megatron is firing his love gun.
*puts on glasses*
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!
The powered-up gun mode looks a bit like a sniper rifle, with the part to brace it against your shoulder and the extended barrel.
@Oamanu That'd be hard for me to do, I've already booked my flights down to the states and back
@14thief theres always tfsource, they ship it to pretty much everywhere, i live in brazil and got a megatron from them, because it seems to somehow get in the country without taxes, bus it costs around 80$
@wewyllenium It hasn't finished processing for HD yet
@Vange1us are you getting the animated stunticons? will you review them?
kudos for you using the actual shooting bullet mode!
Guns have had attachments long before both of those...
Seriously, Hipster Megatron? how long did it take you to come up with that?
Top of the line Great review(smart, detail, informative and full of cheesy jokes)....Please Do more classic transformer reviews G1
Agree never had the thing as a kid and still do not have it.....(Have multiple MP)but its wierd to think this was the deceptic on leader........G1 shockwave looked so much cooler as a figure
Hey Chris, since you seem to still be awake, would you mind after Botcon (if you are going) to head to Vegas for a VTC meetup?
@MrVash104 .....I know you wrote this down a long time ago, but hey, just wanted to say...it is a fair price in the USA. I found it on amazon for US170. And it is very unlikely you'll find it any cheaper nowadays. I personally love this toy, and dont regret spending that much money on it. Cheers!
I had one of these and my mom through it out when I moved out along with my optimous prime.
Would you buy a completely chromed G1 Megatron upgrade?
How do you find these Transformers toys? Online? Specialty store?
Awesome review as always! Megs is pretty damn cool.
I got one question:
Does the Fusson Canon of this Megatron fits on Masterpiece Megatron?
which one
@fyiiamthetf2fan I'll see if I can get it anytime soon, thanks anyway for the info on where I could get it
This is TOTALLY Dai Gurren Awesome Manliness!!!
Any chance you could review Browning at some point?
I was always surprised at how far that thing could fire those little bullets... ah... vintage toys...
When I saw the masterpiece figure with the mace, it reminded me of CastleVania. Megatron is seceretly a vampire killer
Here because of a tweet.
Twitter?!
@@Vangelus Correct.
my goodness, was it you who did Megatrons voice?
Isn't there an Takara Tomy Encore reissue of this also?
He looks a lot like a luger. I'm actually surprised that the details were there at all in such a figure. I must say, it is a pleasant surprise.
Sweet. Classic bad guy goodness. I like. Thanks very much.
Compression seems odd. Nice review. Hope you do MP Meg.
when will we see PE-11?
great review wish i could get this guy hes awesome!
not sold in north American HA LIES ! i found the same one at halo13 with no oragnge tip but its like 200 bucks >.< so is that a good price ?
Ah yes, reissue of the Classic Megatron from 80's. Orginal toy was awesome back in 80's.
Megatron: if I die and get resurected I tottaly want to become a giant cannon like this one
dude ther was one ep were he had a hip canin and that toy is so killer
I always recall the green tank Megatron before this one.
rule 63 megatron. Yes, that was one hell of a Detour. lol
And I like your V-Builds ^_^
I LOVE YOUR V-BUILDS SHUD UP!!!!
Let me guess...that was you doing a Frank Welker impression.
So THAT's where the sword in the PE-Kingbat came from!!!
Got it for US108 a few days ago from eBay.
Man the version of Megatron that we got in the cartoon is so different from this toy.
Thomas Alvarenga I'm so glad
I screamed when you devalued the toy.
can i buy them stikas from you?
Yep; MISB, couldn't believe it. No orange tip on it or anything; I snatched that thing up so fast it probably made the seller's head spin lol
To me...don't you mean Tomy. Ha, ha! Yeah it was a pity that Sunbow and Marvel didn't write a story that made the animators at Toei draw him with all his accsessories attached to try and shoot down a space shuttle or something? That Cannon actually did show up in the cartoon.... just long enough for starscream to shoot through its Magazine for no reason and blow it to bits also for no reason.
Damn you do a decent megatron voice!
For some reason the start of the intro really made me think of Final Destination.
I saw a picture of an unproduced prototype of Megatron when he was in the Microchange line, his crotch was waaaay better done. I just wish it was produced :(
@Vange1us Argh, Kay. Also, I am a little late on this, but totally dig the review.
More retro reviews, please.
My partner got me this figure and I’m so fucking happy, I’m so grateful to them, this has been my holy grail figure for years
Hell yeah!
And given that this is my 1st true G1 figure (Masterpiece Megatron doesn't count); it was a pain in the ass putting all his stickers on lol.
May I suggest you take a look at Transformers Prime Soundwave? :P
My cannon arm has a gun on it. Man... That just trumped sharks with freakin lasers!
Well, G1 in general isn't meant for kids anymore(or at least non-japanese kids).
His "waist"?
nice megatron voice in begining
nice
@Vange1us Chris??
Hipster Megatron: Had attachments before CoD
So, Megatron has finally managed to employ a Cortical Psychic Patch and escape Vangelus' mind? - Or was it the other way round...
OMG UR THE FIRST PERSON I SAW THATR SHOOT HIM !!!!
didnt the G1 shoot as well ?
Those bullets look like Hot Tamales. Even less safe for kids.. ;)
Can you give me one of those Decepticon stickers?
NO way? Brand new?
I've got one even better for you: G1 Optimus Prime Reissue, MISB, US35. On a Buy-It-Now auction. And there's more than 10 still available; with 31 sold already.
@theprimo100 A loyal fan with a great sense of humor?! IS THAT YOU?!!
"I like pulling on it" lol
And Drift is overcompensating?!
Toy guns are just such fun. The more real the better.
Lol, vangelus has super robot reviewing powers :D
