Japanese feelings flows through this piece. There's a feeling of happiness and pride, yet sadness not in a negative, but a solemn understanding and acceptance. I've always been amazed by Japanese people's ability to be so aware of their place in the world, yet so ready to carry it out.
@@thelastcommander8765 - The Hawaiians made similar, beautiful Marchs in the European style. Or like the Mexican army marches of the late 19th century. The world was being influenced by a spirit and style reflected by its music.
This march was composed by Tokichi Setoguchi. Let's search 軍艦行進曲or 軍艦マーチ! Warship is callen Gunkan"軍艦" in Japanese. March is callen koushinkyoku"行進曲" or "マーチ” in Japanese.
At 1:12 is the section heard near the end of 1970's "Tora Tora Tora" in the wardroom of the battleship Nagato, as Japanese radio announces the commencement of the war.
This is the JAPANESE IMPERIAL NAVY march. In Surabaya or old spelling Soerabaja, in the then occupied Netherlands East Indies it could be heard a lot. The city was and is a Naval centre under dutch, Japanese and now Indonesian rule. I had family who back in the war was forced labour in a Japanese Naval Engine revision Yard in Surabaya.
You know what? I'm just here so I know where Parodius got its' stage six. Not enough Japanese in me to have any other reason. It is a nice march, though. XD

Japan was forced into aggression by the USA. The USA virtually starved out Japan in the 1930s deliberately. The 1929 Stock Crash was mainly designed to wreck the Japanese economy. Japan had two choices - fight or die.
This one is the best they made in my opinion.

One of my favourite marches since 1979. Great sound which I´ m never fed up.
Damn
Been listening to tunes like this since Hirohito himself was still alive
The instruments sound like a German march but this has the soul and the patriotism of the Japanese.
There's actually a version played by a German Marching band somewhere here on youtube.

A curiosity : this song was heavily used in the doujin game "Tokkou! Kamikaze Fighter" released in 1996 on the Sharp X68000 japanese computer.
