      So basically the Snap-On ad with the four tool boxes supporting the weight of a dump truck; yeah the dump truck is also cheaper than those four boxes. Ridiculous.
      I understand how many Snap-On tools are the best available and indispensable for certain applications, but this is a storage unit, a cabinet. WAY over-priced.

    Picked up a free snap on tool box with some dents in it as it was on the back of a truck that routinely went back and forth from BC to Alberta. Had to fix it up a bit but now works well. Because I saved money and didn’t buy such a waste of $$ I’m on track to retire 2 years earlier. You my friend just gave up your time for that tool box when you had a perfectly good one!

    @danielanderson2030 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    35 grand?! Jesus... I knew they were expensive but not that bad. The amount of snap on boxes ove been offered for trades I probably could've funded a damn franchise myself.

    • @unclesnappy6541
      @unclesnappy6541 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Not hardly. you're looking at close or over 250k to start a franchise with Snap On Daniel. The truck, maintenance plan, tools to stock it, insurance, tags, fuel, Snap On Credit payment plan, collateral, and they give you a bullshit 250-300 customer route that's been "cherry picked" by all the other trucks before you got there leaving you a bunch of low life, broke, no credit worthiness customers to make it happen. Most don't "live the dream" as Snap On boasts about it's actually a damn nightmare. They fold up like a lawn chair within 3-5 years and end up bankrupt while Snap On rolled ya all the way to the bank. If you can't get a small business loan to operate one of these franchises, that should be an instant "red flag" you're about to get the you know what in the ass.

    I keep reading about a 35k box, but I’m guessing that’s the MSRP (couldn’t see it myself). I’m guessing you got a nice discount along with the money or trade (not sure what you did) and paid much less.
    I’m debating on getting a new box that I’ve filled out. It’s just a Kobalt roller, but can’t decide if I want to pull the trigger for a truck brand. Not in a rush, so I got plenty of time. Always good to see videos like this though. I’ve never seen that truck, but I think there’s a only a couple in the country, right?

    I would like to know what the cost is to make it & how much mark up there is . Trading in will take some pain away However i assume it was bought by the business which i assume is yours . Which to me makes the cost irrelevant as you i guess can right it off as a tax reduction or a tax deduction over time due to depreciation . The most expensive i've seen is one of the really long ones & was it 50 or 60 grand, can't remember . I wonder what it would cost to get a custom stainless one made . That powder coating is there any zinc coating on the metal at all or is it just the paint . If no zinc that'd be a concern in a humid climate

    How many more cubic feet does the new box have over your "OLD" box? Is the extra space worth 34k to you? How long will this new box last you until you run out of space in it and end up trading it in for a new box? I would think it would be more economical to buy another storage cabinet/box to add to your existing box.

  • @LordRumple

    Went from it's almost paid off to owing 10k+ and losing your almost paid off box for a whole 12" more of room. The stupid is strong with this one. Do you know how much used KRL's and or Epics you could have bought used for 10k?

    And you could store your tools without the electronic bells and whistles and get a US General set up from Harbor Freight for less than 2k. It takes a lot of brains to be a tech I don't understand why these people spend this amount of money to keep the tools in something. 35k is mind-bogglingly stupid

    • @markgurley1870
      @markgurley1870 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. I started looking at snap on boxes because I wanted one in the garage to help organize better and I was blown away at the cost. I am not telling anyone how to spend their money but; I bought my general from harbor freight, the top and bottom box and I am very happy with it and I am not even a mechanic. I wonder if any of these guys think about financial ruin from excesive debt for just a tool box not counting the tools. And mechanics even say they buy snap on tools to supposedly pay once. It makes more sense to me to have a multiple set of different brands like I now have like pittsburg, kobalt, and craftsman and when one breaks get another then later on the weekend take what is broken back to the local store to exchange it without any problems. Its called the epiq tool box but I would call it an epic, giant, stupid, purchase unless you got money to burn, or don't mind the idea of getting burned the rest of your life. if I needed more tool space I would buy another general and that would still be better to pay about $2500 for two top boxes and two bottom boxes than to pay that kind of money for a snap on box.

    • @alexmawdsley
      @alexmawdsley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Tim B Wonder how long you've been working on cars. All the old guys pretty much agree - buy cheap first. Replace the broken cheap stuff with the expensive stuff IF you use that tool often. I'm not about to buy more cheap HF ratchets, but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up more impact or chrome sockets if I needed more, because I've yet to break one yet. I've watched someone nearly shatter their knuckles breaking a 3/8th drive snap on socket though.
      There's things you want to pay up for. But not snap on prices. Skip the HF torque wrench and pick one up from Lowes. Tons of reviews showing it accurate repeatedly to a foot pound from 50 to 150. But a stud install tool? 50 bucks on Amazon. Impact grade. Impact gun? HF Earthquake XL series slightly outperforms the snap on equivalent and it's 150 bucks. Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches, screwdrivers from Lowes, full socket sets from Lowes if you want a warranty. All good stuff.
      If I pay $1000 on tools, and need to replace $200 to upgrade to better stuff, I paid $1200. You'll buy it all from a tool truck and pay $4000. That doesn't make me a hack, but it sure does make you a koolade drinking fool

He calls the franchisee's months ahead of time to forewarn them he's coming to their route so have some tool storage customers already pre approved from Snap On Credit so they both score big while he's there.
    None of the tool storage on that truck can be bought off it, the customer has to agree to wait sometimes up to 6 weeks before the box they did the deal on actually arrives. This gives the buyer plenty of enough time to back out of the deal because all this truck driver does is present quotes to the customer leaving the deal to be done by the franchisee. If the buyer decides to back out of the deal (they haven't signed for anything yet) before the tool storage arrives, the franchisee has that unwanted tool storage now in his inventory gobbling up much needed free money to continue the vicious cycle from Snap On called "buy, sell, replenish."
    This Rock n Roll Express driver can wheel and deal better than the greedy franchisee will. The franchisee already gets a 30% discount from Snap On and maybe even more if the promo offers it. Snap On Credit may also have a promotion happening where you get a rebate if you spend so much on tool storage. Either way, they have the tool storage marked up so much it seems like a great deal when in all actuality the franchisee loses money when he gives you more than the 30% off. Your old ass tool storage was added in as a trade against how much trade value - TA he was given from the jump. Factor that against your said trade amount and thats what he's gotta sell your box for to break even, make more off it reselling it and hopes to hell he has nothing in your trade and it's all free and clear profit when he does sell your trade.
    There's more to these program trucks like this one and the Techno Truck that rolls around but, they don't tell you the behind the scenes shit like I just revealed. One thing I did notice when the video maker called the top of the roll cab a "hutch" the RnR driver never corrected him and let him know it's called a "riser" instead. MATCO calls their upper top a "hutch." I also noticed the RNR driver headed right back to the computer in the rear tool storage to start banging away on the keys like a good little Corporate boy he remembered to do from the training in Dallas. This driver like the other program trucks stays on the road constantly like the FD's, SD's BM's DSD's. What a life being on the road damn near 350 days a year for a low salary and hope like hell he hits the numbers so sky high he either makes a bonus or gets his ass chewed out and put on the P.I.P. - Performance Improvement Program waiting to be replaced or kicked down to another Company Store route who knows where or even let go. how's that for a super high pressured sales job?

    It sounds nice when you have a Snap-On "representative" come on out so you can see what they are selling. Until you realize snap-on doesn't provide anything to their "representatives" and they have to buy everything they sell with their own money. That's where it all starts making sense on why they come to you.

    $34.125k, struggling to figure out the business economics here.
    Let's call it around $35k and forget the small change, oh and the interest. Let us just look at the capital invested here.
    I'm assuming it's on tick and not paid by some family inheritance.
    I'm also assuming it's not any more efficient than the old toolbox ???
    we could also assume the old toolbox ain't paid off, so there could possibly be more to be added below ??
    I have also not taken into consideration any other snap-on credit card charge for other snap-on purchases, but I don't think he's bought much snap-on stuff :) :).
    Roughly speaking (without interest)
    $3K per month for 12 months, oh about $140 bucks per day (if you don't do weekends, although think you might be doing weekends and evenings now)
    $1.5k per month for 24 months, oh about $70 bucks per day (and again, if you don't do weekends, although think you might be doing weekends and evenings now)
    OUCH
    Wrench faster !

    • @RustbeltMechanic
      @RustbeltMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old box was paid off, trade in value was 20k and 34k was MSRP. Hopefully good techs at this point know they’re able to haggle these prices down significantly. Needless to say I paid a good deal less than that. And the very small amount I personally financed was paid off in 3 months. I highly recommend that techs take time, interest charges and the want/something shiny factor as well. We are all human and want new neat things, but you have to take everything into consideration for your personal situation.
