    This DIY cross locking rod building bobbin holder is made similar to fly tying / lure making bobbin holders. The biggest difference is the length. These are much shorter than a fly tying bobbin holder so that it doesn't get in the way while hanging from a rod. These are very handy to have for trim threads you would use on trim bands, inlays or decorative wraps. I got the idea for making these partly from a great video made by haru834.     I decided to make these cross locking so that they are easy to open for bobbin installation. You just squeeze the legs at the top just below the top ring to create a gap between the beads so that the bobbin can be installed.
    These work well with or without the split ring in the middle. I like the split ring because it centers the thread from the midsection of the bobbin holder through the top ring.
