    Jim, great idea! You solved two problems at one time. You can eat and recycle at the same time.
    I always said that fly tiers are the craftiest people I know. Give them a problem and they will solve it. I'm sure you will get great use of you bobbin holders and you color coded them too!

    Geat job making use of things most people would toss in the trash! It showed the passion you have for fly fishing and not being wasteful thanks for the instructions. Best regards ...JOHN in new haven

      Thanks 👍 John I have since come to use plastic Q-Tip sticks for the barrel on the bobbin. It is smoother and quieter.

    OK...using a thread bobbin to create a thread bobbin is like defining a word by using the same word.
    Great video. Thoroughly enjoyed watching and will give this a try.

      Try using the tube of a hollow Q-Tip. Then very slightly melt the end to a small roll.

      Just watch out for sharp edges, also you can use Q-tip tubes, but they are a little flexible. The ink pen tube on it's own will work well.

    Hi , I am a big fan , I love the channel ,and I cannot thank you enough for the effort you provide for the sport .I have a question : when it comes to euro nymphing , how do you adjust the tippet length vs the water depth ? Many subject matter experts claim if the fly is touching the bottom , the fish won't touch it . Can you please elaborate or make a video .Your help is always appreciated .

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  ปีที่แล้ว

      When nymph fishing I don't do the Euro Nymphing. All the guys I've seen doing it use a bright section (orange or chartreuse), on the leader and always fished on the bottom. That being said if your flies are not on the bottom the fish wont eat them.

    Great instructional video jim...........I`ll be on the lookout for some suitable wire and have a go.
    Over here in England,our Chinese takeaways come in foil or plastic tubs and paper or polythene carrier bags. It shouldn`t be too hard to find some good strong wire though.

    MR JIM, I JUST FOUND THIS VIDEO. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR INGENUITY. HAVE YOU TRIED BENDING A DRY FLY HOOK INTO A JIG HOOK. WILL IT WEAKEN THE HOOK?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't bent a hook that far. I have bent hooks to make a Klinkhammer style hook, which is much less of a bend. All I can say is try it.

    Jim, How do the later raps increase the tension? Is it the angle ?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes the lower you wrap the thread the tighter it becomes. Also look for Q-Tips with the hollow stems. They work great for this.

  • @dustinmoss584
    @dustinmoss584 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    My problem is is the tube keeps shredding my thread and even on some good bobbins that I bought it still tears up my friend

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One way to try and combat this is to take a 16" piece of Kevlar thread and run it through the bobbin, even try to spin it on the bobbin. Another way is to use glyserin on dental floss in the same manner. glyserin should be available at any drug store. You may also try using a hollow Q-Tip these are the blue stems when you make your holder, you can also melt the ends (very slightly), to form a roll on them. Good Luck let me know how you make out.

    • @TheFlymanJim
