I'm not so sure. In the books Kaz wasn't always so broody and annoyed at everything. He can be charming and funny when he wants. For example his first interaction with Nina in the books.

Kind of a strange reference, but their dynamic kind of reminds me of a darker version of Spencer Reed and Emily Prentiss from Criminal Minds. One is pure logic and science, the other is reading emotions and a preternatural intuition about what makes people tick. They don't understand the other's magic at all but they respect and trust it implicitly. Really appreciated their moments in S2. Also, Nina messing with Kaz followed immediately by Kaz letting her suffer with Zoya was priceless.
I love how animated Kaz was last season in playing a sculptor to get the plans, but refuses to play along with Nina’s lovey dovey happily married routine in this case 😂
