You can FEEL the rage and the grief from losing Newt just pouring off of him. His hands are trembling with it. His voice is choked from holding in all the pain. You can see the tears in his eyes. To know that he could have SAVED Newt's life and Teresa prevented it is nothing short of agonizing for Thomas. WORSE, I think, that when he lost little Chuck.

Did you notice, all the time when Newt was at his side, Thomas was so ambitious in fighting against WCKD and never gave up, was full of hope and fighting spirit and once Newt was gone he completely gave up and surrendered himself to WCKD. A perfect example of, as long as he got Newt at his side he was strong, without him he lost every will to fight.
Because Newt was his source of strenght. He lost this part of him with Newt‘s death. Everything seemed to be in vain for him after this... he didn‘t see any reason to hold on anymore. For me a big proof how much he really needed Newt

GodPain i agree with you on that since she helped create the flare virus for population control but at the same time she did try to rectify her mistake and yes that meant sacrificing people but you have to understand that similar things happen in the real world and they are necessary, for example prototype vaccines are tested on humans and some of them die but if they didn’t then the scientist wouldn’t be able to adjust the vaccine it’s all about the bigger picture
Except she's not, there's no scientific study in torturing and abusing a bunch of kids and making them run around a lot. Nothing they got from the "Trials" couldn't be replicated safely in a lab. The kids also do very different things, only some of them are runners, other water plants and dig holes which has no value to their study what so ever. They did it because they're evil nutters.

Indeed. Dylan is truly an amazing actor, and shows some adequate training in handling that P226. That shot of him holding it on Ava, clearly conflicted, is easily one of my favorites.
I don't think Dylan gets enough credit for the quality of his acting. Perhaps as "Stiles" was an exaggerated version of his own happy-go-lucky, slightly awkward self, some may not have considered him a particuarly gifted actor (although I would counter that the Nogitsune phase should have quashed that thought). For the majority of these films, he's good, but in "hero mode", which again perhaps doesn't challenge him to his fullest when things are going well. But clearly here (as well as in Newt's death scene and when reading his letter later), he has sunk his teeth into the scene and really gone for it, in a style totally different to his previous roles, he really shines as a really fine actor in his generation with his pathos and hopelessness. Bravo.
Dr Paige wasn't evil, she just did what she thought was right to save humanity. Sometimes you gotta do things that may seem wrong at the time for the greater good.

For her part, she always wanted him back in WCKD, regarding him as a prodigal son. Too many believe Thomas was always the cure to Flare, he was not! Thomas did not become the cure until sometime after he escaped Jansen's facility in "The Scorch Trials." They sampled his blood at the Jansen's, so they would have known if he was. However, by the time Thomas arrived at the Right Arm camp, he was the cure as a result of the "trials" he went through getting there. WCKD's paradigm for finding a cure actually had some merit. "Maze Runner" is based on the Greek myth of "Theseus and the Minotaur." In the myth, Theseus is aided by Ariadne. Newt is Ariadne. Also, Thomas is not just a hero, he's a tragic hero. Tragic heroes always have a helper, someone who advises, aids, comforts and complements them. Again, Newt is that helper. The relationship between Thomas and Newt is like that between Achilles and Patroclus or Orestes and Pylades. In "Theseus and the Minotaur," Ariadne helps Theseus because she loves him. Clearly, Thomas and Newt love each other very much. As someone observed below, Newt's death changed Thomas. The old Thomas also died. Going forward, Thomas would be a changed man. His raison d'etre would not be saving only the immunes but saving mankind. Because he is a tragic hero, he'd almost certainly die doing so, but was willing to make the sacrifice. If you think about it, Thomas dies and is reborn three times in this saga. He dies when his memory is wiped, he dies when Newt dies, and, although unseen by us, he dies attempting to save the world. He's not going to stay in the "Safe Haven" but is going back to save the world - if he can. Tragic heroes almost always die. That's what the final scene in the third film means. Theresa's death isn't for the sake of the drama, either. She was absolutely wedded to WCKD just like Thomas was to Newt. She couldn't live without WCKD, so she chose to die with it. This is such a great trilogy. It really explores very serious themes in a profound way. The characters who inhabit this world are very real. You believe they could exist and behave as they do. Finally, the acting and production are first class.
What happened to Teresa’s mother in the past is what prompted her to rejoin WCKD. What happened to Newt is what prompted Thomas to surrender himself to WCKD.
SO, YA KNOW HOW HES THE CURE, THE KINFE THAT NEWT STABBED HIM WITH. IT WENT INTO THOMAS AND THEN IT WENT INTO NEWT, SO HE GOT THE CURE(THOMAS’S BLOOD IN HIM) AND HOW TF DID GALLY SURVIVE A SPEAR THROUGH HIS CHEST AND NEWT NOT SURVIVE A KNIFE?!.
Did I mention how much I *LOVE* Janson, especially cos he's played by someone like Aidan Gillan? While most are inclined to choose Littlefinger as Gillian's best performance, I strongly argue that Janson is a far more intriguing character, despite having significantly less screentime here than on GoT.
Two things I want to say about this scene... 1. When my dad and I saw this movie on 4DX, the chairs punches our back when Ava got shot so we could feel the same amount of pain. I hate it when the chairs do that whenever there is a gunshot or a stabbing. 2. In the epilogue of the book, Ava says that WICKED created the virus after the scorch happened to deal with world population since there were not enough resources. However, they did not know the virus was going to spread. I feel like the characters deserved to know that this was all WICKED's fault in this movie. But also, in the epilogue, Ava says that since she came to realize they may never find a cure to stop the virus from taking the world. With that, to ensure humanity's survival, she devised a plan with Brenda and Jorge to have the Immunes go off to a paradise safe from the rest of the world so they can restore population their own natural way. I feel like they should have mentioned that Ava agrees that Thomas and the rest of the characters need to go save themselves. This proves that Ava is not all that bad. With this, she ensures "WICKED is good".
It's pretty chilling how Ava Page realizes now of all the times she had to noticed that Thomas and the others had experience the bloodshed and lost many friends and loved ones along the way. She had her reasons of having that necessary evil to save mankind from going extinct, yet she cares for her test subject children like Teresa and Thomas. Plus if you remember from the beginning of Scorch Trials, she looked down to Thomas as a young kid and takes him in like a son she never had. In a way, you could say she's like Dr. Halsey from Halo where she's forced in this gray area in their morale and ideology yet have to do what the government wants.
I think Thomas was too shocked with everything that happen that he didn't fight or show any emotion when jasnson came closer and tranquilized him as he just let him or couldn't move.
I don’t think Ava is the villain. She worked for humanity’s cure. For the good of the whole humanity, I think it’s alright to sacrifice a few honestly.
If you think about it, there is no villain or hero placed in this saga. This is defining two choices in which what's left of humanity must choose: either face the risk and die will also contributing to the survival of your race, or resist while facing the horrid circumstances that still exist within that world. WCKD/WICKED had no evil intentions at all, I'd say that Janson's desire for his own survival and power gave the organization a bad vibe, as well as taking in young kids. Not only that, but the fact that governments that formed WCKD had released the virus themselves without realizing that it will be out of control. But, you still have to accept the fact that the purpose was simple and easy to understand: finding a cure, saving humanity from extinction. In a rebel's point of view, no person of youth seems to have their own freedom of choice in whether they want to help or not. That is perfectly understandable. It is horrible and seems really inhumane to trade in younger people to save lives, even though it will be lots. But then again, the audience must also take into mind that the intentions aren't based off of selfishness or greed, that's what parts of the organization make you think, such as: blowing up the Right Arm's camp, draining the blood and life from young kids, showing no mercy to oppositions, etc. Basically, what I am trying to say is that life requires sacrifices, whether it is to help it or revive it. This movie/book series perfectly shows that despite the mistakes given, if you are doing anything with the intent of helping someone else, or the entirety of the human race in this particular case, then you shouldn't be considered evil. Only those who let power and greed take over them should be. People like Ava Paige are characters I've always considered foes, when it wasn't specifically that person/character. She was definitely going to live up to her part as a doctor, and prioritize others over herself. As you read the books/watch the movies, you can see that everything she does is for others. Just putting this out there for anyone who wants to read.

Educate me please. I understand in scorch trials it was said that the cure can only be harvested... Harvested how? Like wool from a sheep where the host can live? Or would harvesting cost the host's life? Cuz it seems more like "wool from a sheep" - if so, a whole lot of bloodshed could've been prevented. Did I mention how much I *LOVE* Janson, especially cos he's played by someone like Aidan Gillan? While most are inclined to choose Littlefinger as Gillian's best performance, I strongly argue that Janson is a far more intriguing character, despite having significantly less screentime here than on GoT.
Two things I want to say about this scene...
1. When my dad and I saw this movie on 4DX, the chairs punches our back when Ava got shot so we could feel the same amount of pain. I hate it when the chairs do that whenever there is a gunshot or a stabbing.
2. In the epilogue of the book, Ava says that WICKED created the virus after the scorch happened to deal with world population since there were not enough resources. However, they did not know the virus was going to spread. I feel like the characters deserved to know that this was all WICKED's fault in this movie. But also, in the epilogue, Ava says that since she came to realize they may never find a cure to stop the virus from taking the world. With that, to ensure humanity's survival, she devised a plan with Brenda and Jorge to have the Immunes go off to a paradise safe from the rest of the world so they can restore population their own natural way. I feel like they should have mentioned that Ava agrees that Thomas and the rest of the characters need to go save themselves. This proves that Ava is not all that bad. With this, she ensures "WICKED is good".

It's pretty chilling how Ava Page realizes now of all the times she had to noticed that Thomas and the others had experience the bloodshed and lost many friends and loved ones along the way. She had her reasons of having that necessary evil to save mankind from going extinct, yet she cares for her test subject children like Teresa and Thomas. Plus if you remember from the beginning of Scorch Trials, she looked down to Thomas as a young kid and takes him in like a son she never had. In a way, you could say she's like Dr. Halsey from Halo where she's forced in this gray area in their morale and ideology yet have to do what the government wants.

I think Thomas was too shocked with everything that happen that he didn't fight or show any emotion when jasnson came closer and tranquilized him as he just let him or couldn't move.
I don’t think Ava is the villain. She worked for humanity’s cure. For the good of the whole humanity, I think it’s alright to sacrifice a few honestly.
You’d be right and happy in that wicked facility then. What if had to be one of your family members? I don’t think that would be easy not what it?
If you think about it, there is no villain or hero placed in this saga. This is defining two choices in which what's left of humanity must choose: either face the risk and die will also contributing to the survival of your race, or resist while facing the horrid circumstances that still exist within that world. WCKD/WICKED had no evil intentions at all, I'd say that Janson's desire for his own survival and power gave the organization a bad vibe, as well as taking in young kids. Not only that, but the fact that governments that formed WCKD had released the virus themselves without realizing that it will be out of control. But, you still have to accept the fact that the purpose was simple and easy to understand: finding a cure, saving humanity from extinction.
In a rebel's point of view, no person of youth seems to have their own freedom of choice in whether they want to help or not. That is perfectly understandable. It is horrible and seems really inhumane to trade in younger people to save lives, even though it will be lots. But then again, the audience must also take into mind that the intentions aren't based off of selfishness or greed, that's what parts of the organization make you think, such as: blowing up the Right Arm's camp, draining the blood and life from young kids, showing no mercy to oppositions, etc.
Basically, what I am trying to say is that life requires sacrifices, whether it is to help it or revive it. This movie/book series perfectly shows that despite the mistakes given, if you are doing anything with the intent of helping someone else, or the entirety of the human race in this particular case, then you shouldn't be considered evil. Only those who let power and greed take over them should be. People like Ava Paige are characters I've always considered foes, when it wasn't specifically that person/character. She was definitely going to live up to her part as a doctor, and prioritize others over herself. As you read the books/watch the movies, you can see that everything she does is for others.
Just putting this out there for anyone who wants to read.

It’s so clear cut from around the beginning of scorch trials that Thomas is the cure but Paige doesn’t want to kill him because he was so close to her and Mary that’s why she has the reaction she does when Hanson kills Mary at the end of scorch trials

Anthony Barbosa it’s because Thomas realised that Ava knew what she was doing was wrong, and wanted Thomas to forgive her, so he lowered the gun. Janson noticed that Ava no longer wanted to sacrifice people for the cure so he killed her.

@Shalini Punekar no one gets hurt, or is supposed to. the ideas of wckd were supposed to be painless. the only reason they seem to be an evil force is because of directors like janson running it, as well as the fact that they take in kids by force without reconsideration. there are 2 sides of the story that people should understand: either face it and die while contributing your help to a guaranteed survival of humanity, or resist and live under the world's current circumstances. that's all the choices left in that world. if you think about it, there is no villain or hero in the saga. everything is just blindly placed upon belief.
