Calling Mayo "safe" at this specific point in time is INSANE. Was a big fan of Mayo the player, and Mayo the Inside Linebackers Coach, but Mayo the Head Coach has been very disappointing.
WHAT IS JEROD MAYO THEN YOU FOOL? God. He played his entire career here and his entire NFL coaching career here. Vrabel wasn't even drafted by the Patriots. Ugh.
Why is it so wrong to give people shit about saying Jerod Mayo should have earned his way to become the damn head coach of the franchise without no coaching experience,,,,,,I can understand defensive coordinator but damn to just hand him the keys to the franchise to run???? DEI HIRE???
DEI suggests Kraft took him specifically to check a racial box. It disregards the fact he played for the Pats. That he was defensive rookie of the year. That he led the NFL in tackles a couple of years later. That he was called “Baby Belichick” when he was playing. That he has basically never left. That Kraft said “I have a feeling about Mayo”. Nothing about race or inclusion was involved. You can just say he sucks without making it racial.
Dei hire would be better. He got hired because Kraft “liked how he acted” on a vacation to israel…and calls Kraft thunder cat. I wish he was a dei hire but it’s much worse than that.
BB was here 25 years and at the end he was bad. Mayo has been bad since before the season started. Any HC that watches this team film will know the reason Mayo would be fired. This is a storied franchise, with a great prospect at QB and cap space. It would be a great place for a real HC to coach.
The season is lost but Mayo has to prove he is a compeyent head coach. He must stop the bleeding now on defense. If he doesn't and the team contunues to play tbis way, Mayo must go and if Kraft keeps him anyway the fan base should give Kraft hell.
It's not just the record, it's the BLOWOUT losses, and losses to bad teams. It's one thing to be competitive in losses and look like your team is on its way, but these losses show a team that is totally lost. Now with all the talk from players, you have the simmering ingredients of a team in total meltdown. It might not be there yet, but this is a tipping point for sure.
Status so far this REBUILD season: - Drake Maye is the real thing. His performance is way over expectations. Lots of upside. - Having a QB for the future is the most important thing. - Attrackting quality FA receivers is now again possible. It was not before. - Assessing the team is ongoing this season. Many needs for changes will be identified. - Ending last is ok as long as the assessment is done. = Stop the panic talk, everything is going according to the plan Next year we expect: - Actions based on the assessments. A much, much better team is expected. - Drafting quality players. Ending last can be converted into many draft assets like CHI did. - With Maye attracting quality FA WRs again possible as well as FAs at other positions. - Assessment of needs also includes the coaching staff. Changes may be done. - Coaches will be held accountable for team results. Changes may be the result. Calm down. So far we are doing fine. Having a QB for the future was the hard thing to do. Drake Maye will sell tickets. And will give us all a lot of hope and entertainment.
For once I don’t think the guys are overreacting to this. Mayo looks like a 16 year old in a tux that a few sizes too big. Kraft should not have auto drafted this guy.
And yet, everything is going according to plan. Everyone agrees that you got your Quarterback. (Now it's up to you to destroy or nurture him) Next year you will likely have another top-five pick to build around your QB. As easy as that sounds, the Jets haven't been able to do that much since the Namath days.
The record is not the problem the issue is what exactly are you showing to the fans that gives them hope going into next year. Mayo can use the Dan Campbell and Shanahan examples all he wants but those men did something Mayo isn’t and that is creating a culture and new standard and you see them fighting hard and keeping games close which tells you as a fan hey this team has an identity I’m curious to see how they build this thing. As of right now you don’t see that with this team now to be fair there is 10 games left so the culture can change by seasons end but Kraft better be taking a hard look at how the team responds. Also let me be clear Maye’s success is really not something Mayo can use to benefit himself as he stated that Van Pelt is the HC of the offense and the QB coach and Ben McAdoo are the ones behind the scenes with the development
The last 8 months couldn't have gone worse (within reason). Team is legit a Joke Circus. And all Maye has done so far is lose by 18 pts/game to two of the worst teams in recent memory, each of whom had 1 win. We don't look like Army anymore but please pump the brakes. Celtics standard: Championship or bust Patriots standard: Complete a forward pass 😂 ....(now, also) Allow less than 30 points.
Worst part is all the supporting coaches are terrible - defensive coordinator is awful, offensive line coach should be brought behind the shed, special teams is terrible
Hold up, no one expected them to be this bad? I slammed the over/under on the under at 4.5 wins on my bet. I am sitting back just waiting for that money to be sent my way. This team had fighting for top pick written all over it
vrabel is a good coach. i'm a bills fan but i thought you should have hired someone new completely out of the organization. i like your new qb as i live in nc and i have a daughter who graduated out of unc and i saw a lot of him on tv and he has the right stuff. unfortunately you lack offensive players to support him. its a process so 2 years of down. however i would fire mayo and get a new head coach offensive oriented.
I was hoping Mayo would be different than all the other Belicheck assistants, but just like them all before him they’re all failures! Only Saban and Ferentz have done anything.
I really don’t care what he says on the mic I really don’t I only care about results he could blab and look dumb all day if the team is performing well
After 24 years of listening to Belichick's bullcrap, I'll GLADLY accept Jerrod Mayo's stream of consciousness at postgame pressers. It's entirely refreshing to hear a coach TRUTHFULLY speak his mind, I couldn't care less how his team takes it when the coach calls them "SOFT". This team deserves every word, even if it was just one word. SOFT.
In my defense... I've never been a Patriots fan, I merely live here and have been stuck watching Bill's sour demeanor every Sunday. Jerod is a refreshing change from that. Doesn't mean he's the right coach, or even a good coach. No strong opinions on that, but so far I don't think he's shown it.
Calling Mayo "safe" at this specific point in time is INSANE. Was a big fan of Mayo the player, and Mayo the Inside Linebackers Coach, but Mayo the Head Coach has been very disappointing.
After he threw out the DEI bs at his introductory presser, I knew we were in trouble!
Agree.....but he did go to Israel with Kraft.
Mayo is so far over his head. He got the job, without ever being a Coordinator, because he was polite to old people on a Kraft Israel Trip. WTH!

Political Correctness
I think it was pure incompetence rather than dei, but I’m sure Kraft liked the optics of mayo happening to be black

Fire Mayo!
Mayo is a bad coach. Wolff is a bad GM.
Let's bring Ben Johnson, new blood, offensive mastermind and part of the best rebuild of the NFL
Agree 💯
Ben Johnson is an amazing OC but we need the culture that Dan Campbell or Mike Vrabel can deliver

A one win season is a fireable offense

Kraft does not want to pay Vrabel his asking wage because Kraft is paying his HC, OC, and DC starting wages. That's one reason he got rid of Bill.

Mayo and the team can go 1-16 and all jobs will stay the same. Maybe they make a change at DC. I think it depends what happens down the stretch.
I expected all this besides the arrests.
Kraft needs to undo his F'up and hire Vrabel
