    I have purchased a heap of guitar tools, accessories and parts that I’ve purchased from TEMU. I have always had a good buying experience with them. I have all of the tools you displayed here and have been happy with all of them.

    Item 3 is a fret slot cleaning saw and a fret pulling guard with ruler markings. Once you get the fret you're pulling started, you put the pulling guard on before you finish removing the fret. It's supposed to reduce tear-out. The you use the cleaning saw on the slot before you hammer/press the new fret in. Only used a pulling guard once - it worked great. Never used a fret cleaning saw, just a fret slotting saw for cleanup. Fret pulling guards are the perfect tool for checking nut slot height vs fret plane when installing a Floyd Rose locknut. They are thin enough to get all the way down to the bottom of the nut slot to use as a fret rocker vs the nut slot, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd frets. This lets you shim the nut to precisely the correct height. I use them almost exclusively for this and know of no other tool that can do the job nearly as well. Since I use locknuts on almost all my builds I couldn't live without one.

    That Fritz string ruler is super handy, it has measurements on the other side for all different nut spacings. Well worth it.

    I love all your creative videos- and your music too! I'm just wondering what the black measurement tool is that you use at 11:02 here in this shot

    Hey Mark, great channel. I always enjoy your videos and the music in the background. Is there anywhere we can download your music from? thanks.

    When clear coating a maple neck is it easier to clean the frets afterwards as I do, or can you use a thin masking tape on the frets? I was thinking of using a really thin feeler gauge against the fret edge and running the scalpel across it to cut a thin sliver of the masking tape off and just clean off that thin sliver of clear coat if it is needed.
    I have to be so careful when clear coating a fretboard as the clearcoat can pool up against the frets, I used to hang the neck but I now lay it flat and make sure it is level in both length and width and only apply thin coats and wait for the surface to be dry before applying the next coat.
    Are there any other tips you know of?

    Kind of unrelated to the content itself, but I dig the vibe of your videos. It's like guitar nerd ASMR LOL. Soft spoken and relaxing. Super interesting content all the time too. Good stuff 👍🏻

    Part on Temu $2.50, same part on StewMac $14.95. I judge the part quality by the number sold. The worst part is just the looooonnnnnnggggg shipping wait. Thanks for video!

    I got the leveling file a couple of weeks ago. I've only used it to file down the exposed fret tangs on a Fender Strat, it did the job pretty well, pretty smooth! I'm on the fence about the nut files, aren't they too thick to cut a guitar nut?

    kinda wish you got a crowning file to try. But i suspect the temu ones are gonna be as bad as all the other cheapies i've tried.
    But yeah some tools you just don't need to spend the big bucks on.

    You could use that tele and make a video on generic cnc tummy and arm cut for any guitar?

    • @MarkGutierrez
      @MarkGutierrez  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the exact same idea. I was thinking of throwing one of these on the CNC table and doing all sorts of "modern" carves on it.

      With that being said, good video. There were a few cool items featured.

    I've been looking into getting a full luthiery kit from Temu and they look cheap and flimsy...

    • @normbarrows2
      @normbarrows2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had to re-outfit after a shop fire. The fret leveling kit for about $60 plus the re-fretting kit for about $70 on Amazon gets you just about everything except a notched straight edge.

    All power to you for scoring a partnership. I can understand the direction you're taking, cos the low prices on Temu could make guitar building incredibly accessible for a lot of people. But I do find this kind of content generally less engaging and interesting than your hyper interesting experiments and design based vids. The ethical issues related to using Temu don't sit well with me ... all that said, you do this kind of content well, better than most and you're not losing a viewer here.

    • @MarkGutierrez
      @MarkGutierrez  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Believe me, I was extremely reluctant to make this video. I struggled with the decision. But in the end, the fee I charged Temu is paying for the nice lap steel hardware I'm ordering from France. We all have to find a business model that works.

      @@MarkGutierrez Thanks for commenting back. I'm glad you're able find a way to make being a yt content creator financially viable on some level, and lord knows there's enough of the million plus subs channels that are absolutely dripping in sponsorships, so honestly I don't begrudge you this at all, but I do look forward to whatever insane experiment you have up your sleeve next :D You push the envelope of whats possible further than anyone else I've seen in this space, and that's what I'm here for

      @@MarkGutierrez Just subbed to your channel after seeing a video from 2 years ago. I would be 'disappointed' by this video, but I understand your decision. IMO, those that don't want to see information about TEMU can just skip the video since you do have other content that they might like. Also, kudos to you for not trying to hide away from your comment section and owning up to what you are doing and why. As long as you aren't doing something shady, I don't have a problem with it. The life of an adult is tough. Best wishes.

    I bought one of those saws for cleaning saws as it was a fraction of the price for the same thing elsewhere. Most of the things I bought were satisfactory or good. Except for one cheap fret file which was of no use whatsoever. It was one of those cylindrical ones with a groove in it. But the groove was too narrow and had no proper teeth or grit and looked nothing like the pics. It may have been a cheap cast copy of a proper tool. I got an instant refund on it.

    How much are Temu actually paying you guys for these videos that are taking over my feed these days? The same people who have been telling us for years how a good tool saves you money in the long run are now gleefully shilling the exact products from Aliexpress that they've been turning their noses up at.
    Granted I'm not from the US, where I know it's more acceptable to grift but it's really disappointing to see.
