Question for you my man. I am running a 91 tracker and am replacing a burnt out pully and belt. I am going to dope the cam gear, but the hash mark behind it isnt at 12 oclock! Its kinda at like a 11:45 if you know what I mean. So do I ignore the hash mark and line it up at 12, or do I line it up according to where they struck the mark behind the gear?
4:50. I just don't get it. What is a harmonic balancer? there is no electronic there, just the distributor... Also, my tensioner is different from the one in your video. Mine is made out of two pieces and if i put the spring it keeps the pulley away. I see your sprins is actually tensioning the belt
Great video! To get TDC you have to remove the cover? Remove the radiator? How can you crank it to check with the screwdriver if you can't remove the cover? Thanks!
Is this same as a 16v with distributorless ign? Just make.sure #4 is tdc by pulling plug and doing tbe straw test when Straw comp up to top of the stroke on #4 check marks and verify all marks line up correct?

Quick question for you. So starting at 4, whats the firing order? And is it counter clock wise? Is it 4,3,1,2? I can't seem to get it to shift into 2nd gear. It starts boughing down.

I dont know if you have run across this problem but i have a 93 sidekick with the 16 valve that intermittently doesnt have the 3rd cylinder back fuel injector working. It has new injectors. Plugs and wires cap rotor and new ignition switch. It will run good at times on all 4 cylinder s then it drops the 3rd cylinder for awhile. It has no check engine light on. I am running out of ideas. Hey thanks for the video, I did exactly what you did but I had to change the camshaft seal and the crankshaft seal also, I never turned the camshaft, I just pulled it off changed the seal and put it back on , I did however turn the crankshaft a little one way or the other but I always put it right back on the marks, anyway I changed both seals and put the marks back just like the way before I started this. Put the timing belt back like I took it off. This is on a 1.6 16 valve engine however when I try to start it it sounds out of time don’t understand how this could be, in your video your distributor is different than mind meaning my number four wire is more to the bottom center on the rotor cap. but it is on the fourth cylinder, I did check my distributor again and in order to get it centered on the distributor cap to the rotor i have to turn the cap almost all the way in the clockwise position., will I hurt it by turning the engine over messing with the distributor. I see that it’s a interference motor.this was suppose to be a easy project , just put everything back just like I took it off but no somehow I did something wrong. Also I did check to make sure the 4 cylinder was on top dead center. I checked and rechecked everything is on it’s marks. I’ve never messed with the distributor so it should run. I was afraid I might have messed the valves by trying to start it but I don’t see how that could be when everything is on it’s mark , right lol 😂 I did read in my chilton manual it said not to turn the crankshaft counterclockwise, didn’t really understand that. I Maybe turned it an inch either way but right back where it belonged, would it be better to take the distributor out and readjust it so it centers up more on the tab where the bolt is that locks your distributor down? Right now it’s all the way to the right to get the number four wire to line up with the rotor. This is a mess plus my writing anyway thanks for your trouble
Hey Tony, very clear Thanks! What is the stock timing in degrees? Your Opinion on how much I can safely advance timing? Hi Tony, your videos are gold! I just replaced the timing belt on my 1998 tracker 1.6 the Spanish model by santana motors (the EU model). My issue is that my timing belt walks off the cogs even by turning the motor by hand. I tried mounting the t belt as far back as possible but after 2-3 motor revolutions the belt sits at the face of both cogs. If i keep turning the motor, the timing belt starts hanging off the cogs. This is true no matter the belt tension as i tried both the belt tension torqued to spec after two motor revolutions and even with the belt tensioner hand tight. The water pump - tbelt and tensioner, tensioner spring and the tensioner bolt are new (OEM). Crank key is perfect - torqued to spec as stated in your video. Thanks in advance

Awesome video man, your commentary is amazing! I've recently been messing with my 1.3 Samurai and i have noticed that the timing belt is rubbing against the front plastic timing cover at higher RPM, the back sheet metal part of the timing cover appears to be slightly tweaked. What is the proper timing setting on this motor? To do the belt change, does the radiator have to come out or will just removing the shroud and fan give enough clearance? Thanks again, and I am sure I will be calling you for some parts down the road!
Did you ever get this done? Curious as well if the radiator needs to come out
@@claytonrichards4474 Did the timing belt without removing the radiator.
Excelente video Colega, un fuerte abrazo, saludos 😎
Hi Tony , i have 1998 Suzuki sidekick 16valve , recently i did tune-up to it , changed spark plugs and wires , air filter , fuel injectors , fuel pump and fuel filter . When i start the car it smells so bad carbon dioxide and makes greyish smoke . Can you tell what's causing it ?
Thank you in advance.
Make sure you spark plugs were at the correct gap
appreciate your videos man!! quick question! I've been on fixkick all night gathering info getting ready to do the head gasket/timing belt on my 1999 16v thats swapped in my sammy (i bought it half way swapped because he got scared of the wiring lol) anyway all the forums stop at 1998 it seems. will i be ok using all this info for them on mine? minus having to worry about the distributor stuff obviously
Mine has the same problem, it's a 1989 JLX auto transmission.
What should i tell my mechanic to set my timing again ?
1- Engine doesn't have enough power
2- Transmission jerks when i put it in reverse
3- 2nd gear also jerks but 3rd n 4 th seems okaay
4- It has a vaccum issue (thats for sure).
Note: Timing was done but i don't know whether he removed the computer or not !!
What should i ask him to do ?
I have found your channel and watching you from Pakistan ☺
I hope you will help me out Sir !?
Thanks in advance
You have to have the harmonic balancer pulley installed to keep the timing belt from walking off if you're running the engine
@@Hwy83SUZUKI thank you VERY much for your response! I didn't install the harmonic balancer pulley but kept the engine spinning wondering what the problem was. Thanks again !
Awesome video man, your commentary is amazing!
I've recently been messing with my 1.3 Samurai and i have noticed that the timing belt is rubbing against the front plastic timing cover at higher RPM, the back sheet metal part of the timing cover appears to be slightly tweaked. Is this a common issue that you're aware of or is this just someone in the last 30 years prying against it too hard and bending it? Any suggestions for a fix? I am considering some foam padding to offset it by 2-3mm since i couldn't get the back part in shape correctly. Thanks for any tips!
Sometimes it just needs to be bent back into shape so it doesn't rub. Fairly common
merci Tony !
Gracias a ti resolvi mi problema. Gracias
I CAnt wait till you do the stock carburetor adjustment
One more thing, I'm going to have me a high life as soon as I'm allowed to drink again! Lol ill make sure to get a picture!
