      One could argue that Sparks isn't regarded as a classic rock band like the others you mentioned, as they moved beyond rock music in the late 70s and would continue with synth pop in the 80s. Rock fetishists have a problem with bands moving beyond that genre, so Sparks never got the praise and recognition they deserved.

I shake my head and think 'this is too fuckin weird for reality.' Nowadays...I can be more erudite and incisive. But why? Since... always... Ron & Russel have carried "weird" like king's garments. They are normal...for them. This is genuine. So what if they are not from Earth--they've adopted most our habits. And given us their vision of tunage..... . 1--You won't ever be bored. Ever. 2--They make you chuckle sometimes. They were well trained on their home-world, wherever the hell that was.

    wow i listened to this ten time as i was sure they said more than My Baby's Taking Me Home but they didn't, what memorizing song it seems to say more than it says, the use of tone of the voice, the visuals and the timing, that bit at the end that seems to start to say more but then directs you to the chorus and the fact they are saying My Baby's Taking Me Home, genius.

    • @annabackman3028

      Sparks in a nutshell! Exactly like 'Brenda's Always In The Way', even though there is more lyrics, but the most part is basically the same, with a few varieties, and also the part differences from the rest with lyrics that reveal something about the situation.
      'My Baby's...' and Brenda's Always...' have that in common that they are built on a monotonous and repetative base presented in varied rhythm and how Russell puts the intonation.
      Especially this one distinguish a LISTENER from someone who HEARS music but don't register WHAT they actually hear. They only pick up the top layer, notes it's monotonous, automatically rejects it as boring and weird, without having an idea of what they actually were hearing.
      Sometimes Sparks music demands some active listening.

    In its´ simplicity, absolutely a fabulous song.
    The only text in the song, other than a spoken interlude, is the sentence; "My baby´s Taking Me home" is repeated more than 100 times throughout the song, only with slight variations in tune.

      I have been a Sparks fan since the 70s and seriously they are the only band in music history that have actually got better and better over time, starting from a very high bar.

    • @kyachdistent1301
      @kyachdistent1301 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@misterdavid5400 Well I always thought they became a true albums act in 1979 with their induction into the world of synth-pop where they became ultra-modern. Earlier stuff pleasant but dated glam is threatening lots of it, and there was too much of that around then from everyone else, just Sparks write it better and sing it better too.

    I know people often comment on songs they'd like played at their funeral. For me, I think this would be a pretty good one. It kind of doesn't matter who you think your "baby" is, either.
