  • Elegant Art Deco.. Simple technique for beautiful cells and lacing..using Amsterdam Black Oxide mixed 1 part paint to 4 parts Floetrol.. and swiped over other paints .
    I learned of this simple mix when I did a collaboration with Tina Sacco of TSR
    Creations.
    She had been using Amsterdam titanium white in this manner and I wanted to try it using black. I got really pretty results and actually experimented further and found you can mix your black and white for a grey colour, and apply at the same way for the same results.
    This is a great tool to have, and I can see lots of applications. It gave the swipe area wonderful cells and lacing and when I did my schmears the results were very Art Deco like in design
    . I applied the black mixture to a palette knife and drew it up across gold paint and got beautiful lacing in cells as well.
    If you have any inquiries about purchasing my paintings.. or to book an online lesson.. please email me
    gburstyn1@gmail.com
    Thanks again for all your support and kind comments... I am constantly humbled and taken aback by your kind words. lLet's keep playing with pigments and making beautiful things. Thanks for coming along this journey with me.. gail burstyn

    I like it very much Gail and I like the impasto look of it all too. I have been doing a few paintings with the swiping or smearing, and it has become a favorite technique of mine. I was wondering if you could direct me to a video of yours on how you measure all of your paints? I know everyone is different but because I am using this technique that you do all the time, I would love to know what your paint measurements are? 🌺🌺🌺

    Stunning pretty little bits! You are amazing. Question: You have a lot of paint on your canvas. Does it ever crack? And if the answer is that it doesn’t very often, why not?

    • @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters
      @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kathleen Thompson it never cracks.. touch wood... It could be.. my mix.. low humidity.. climate controlled atmosphere.. It really is not a lot of paint left on the canvas. most are dry to the touch in less than 24 hours..

    Thanks that is outstanding. Do you think another black may work or do you think it has to Amsterdam? How much floetrol do you add to the denim? What a wonderful way to wake up watching your beautiful work and peaceful music!

    • @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters
      @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It might work with other paints. I have not found that to be the case. I've tried it now mixing the black and the white to make a swipe over colour of grey and it works beautifully.

    A beautiful piece! Stunning work! I am just questioning why you are saying this is Art Deco? Organic style paintings are often thought of as Art Nouveau. The colours are Art Deco, just wondering if you called it such because of the colours? Not being critical of the painting, or the process, I do love it.

  • @santababy1952
    @santababy1952 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I can't figure out is how you got that gray to be a metallic looking blue. Is there any metallic added to that white and black? It's impressive for sure as it creates a texture you don't see in a non-metallic paint. As your paintings always reflect a very creative person, I am rarely disappointed in what you produce. There are times when I want you to slow down on the "shmears" but you usually recognize it yourself as you did in this painting. I didn't think that Candy Apple was ever going to make an appearance! I certainly wish I had been into paint pouring when Art Minds were making their colorful metallics. I can't help but feel a little cheated. Thankfully, Modern Masters has a paint called Green Apple that is likely very close to Candy Apple. Did you know those paints have real metallic particles in them (so it says on the jars). Arteza has picked up the colored metallics line but theirs are more pearl and they've not come up with a Mysterious-type color to date :). Thankfully I do have your recipe but haven't a clue if it is correct or not since I didn't have the Golden Fluid Turquoise required and used the same qty in the hard body from the tube in the same ratio. I am so grateful that you were willing to share that recipe. Blick's Metallic Teal (a bit more sparkly) is just about the same color as your recipe, just a shade lighter. It is beautiful, both of them. Anyway, all that to say, this is a beautiful painting though I didn't get an Art Deco feel for it. I do hope you are having good results in selling your paintings. You certainly should.

    • @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters
      @GailBurstynLifeInSplatters  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Laura, there's no metallic in the black and white Amsterdam. Your mysterious is on the way to you, should be there any day now. Thank you for your kind words Apple support. I have to wait for the border to open to be able to get some of the wonderful paints that you have with Modern Masters..and Blick.

      @@GailBurstynLifeInSplatters What a shame. They are not available at your Michaels? Of course I know Blick's is not but they do ship internationally. No commercial products can cross the border? I cannot wait for my gift. What a generous gift but not at all surprising. I wish we could be neighbors and hang out together. I think we would have a great friendship doing things together. Perhaps someday we will meet but I guess I'd better work on getting a passport. I've never been out of the States except to Mexico and Cayman and in those days, showing your drivers license was all you needed. Things have changed a lot since 9/11 and even now in 2020 with the "plandemic".
