The music of this era (60’s & 70’s ) was truly something special. Smokey Robinson & the Miracles would definitely be an amazing rabbit hole for you. Thanks for this one guys 😊😊
I'm surprised you haven't heard this song before. I'm a 79yo white guy and my first 30 years or so I listened to rock and Motown. I've heard all the legends. I loved Smokey. My first live concert was The Supremes. I had a crush on Diana Ross.
For me, his live, black and white version of "Ooh Baby Baby" from around 1963 or 64 is not only his best performance, but his greatest song. Give that a listen.
Amazing artist ❤️👍🏽👍☘️ ABC - when smokey sings is a wonderful tribute. Or - Japan - second that emotion. Best man at Motown - including Marvin Great reaction ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
It's about time somebody suggested Smokey Robinson songs, try listening to "Tears of a Clown" great song!!! You need to listen to more Motown, best music, lots of great melodies, singing and harmonising, things that are lacking in today's music!
About his other "tears" song: Smokey and his first wife kept losing the children they conceived because she had a physical problem and couldn't carry them to term. I've read that Smokey wrote "Tears of a Clown" to describe his private sorrow. Evidently they were the first Americans to have a surrogate to carry their biological children. But other sources say that Stevie Wonder wrote the music for Tears of a Clown and he gave the tune to Smokey, saying that he couldn't think of any lyrics. Then Smokey claimed he thought of the clown Pagliacci who smilled on the outside while crying on the inside. So who knows what the real story is - maybe all of the stories are true.
