So finally back out since opening meet, it was good, very stop-start but the jumps the fine and we were in some beautiful country!

I used to ride a horse called Classy, and whenever we went on a trail ride I had to practically TEAR her from the bushes 😂 she got better after a while but those first few times were big oofs

I know it’s different for every hunt club but I was wondering if you have to gallop or if you can canter and trot them as I am thinking of doing Some drag hunting but am not confident in my gallop!
I would suggest going on a novice / children's meet, it's designed for the less confident/experienced and is slower and more relaxed 😊 ask your local hunt when they plan to do it, hunts tend to do them at the beginning and at the end of the season.

X.lloyd.xfred.x that depends on the hunt. for ours we hunt on 1200 acres so you are forced to match the pace or get left behind. but you can get in contact with a field master and they’ll tell you the pace beforehand :)
If you can hold your horse back then I wouldn't worry too much about having to gallop as it's hard enough without jumping at such a speed but just remember horses still have wild instincts and will follow what the herd do. If they are nervous and want to stay with others they'll go with the others. If you horse listens to you well and will stay in canter you may be able to keep up but definitely recommend you talk to the people who do it and see where you go and the usual speed. X

At the height of my running fitness (late 30s) I was the 'prey' for a drag hunt a few times.
It was amazing fun, but seriously hard running, the sound of hounds baying as they close in is almost primeval in its impact.
If you're a serious and capable x-country runner you have to give it a go!

it was only a few days ago when i was riding in my school, i was riding a different horse and i wasnt used to her riding it didn’t take long for her to start bolting around the school and i nearly fell off i was shocked i was still on the horse tbh
and she nearly slipped
i was so scared lmao
What age is needed for drag hunting?
Any age really as long as you can keep up. Alot of hunts do novice/children's meets separately though 😊

I’d love to know how you got into hunts. I’m just getting back into riding after a couple years of a (involuntarily) break. It would be so so interesting to know how you find and attend the events, or how you find friends who do the same discipline or people to go with. I’ve been watching for a while and I find your videos so interesting and would love to try going to one of these myself, I’m just lost on how to actually get there. 😂
I've just seen your comment! Sorry for not replying sooner! I just found out who my local hunts were, you can either contact the hunt secretary for dates or alot tend to have the events on Facebook. I started off going by myself but then I just posted on Facebook that I wanted a hunting partner 😂

@@supernoodle704 You can always find a hunt that has a optional/non-jumping group! :) The readyfield who i normally go with do and sometimes i go into that group if im not feeling that confident on the day :)
Equinologee oh, definitely! I’d love to do it. I’ll have to check with the person I loan my horse from but I feel like a couple no-jump hunts would be good to get a feel of the environment. Thanks for the suggestion.

There seemed to be different groups, who were then standing around. Do you all go round together or is it broken down into groups... you make a lovely team. Great that you talk to your horse.. swearing doesn’t bother me, as I swear when driving. Have a good successful 2020. Happy new year.
We all go around together just unfortunately this meet was very "stop-start" so alot or people were waiting around and queuing for the jumps. Wasn't very slowly ☹️ I'm glad you enjoyed it! Happy new year to you too 😊

Is there a certain attire for both horse and rider when hunting? 😊
Yeah it's black/navy jackets with a white/cream stock and beige breeches 😊 although I was wearing tweed today as my black jacket has a rip 😅 tweed is normally worn for hound exercises before opening meet.
Ooo okay, during the winter i bet those cream jods/breeches don't stay very cream 😂 should do black breeches instead easier to clean 😂❤
