I love this game. So glad you have a big ongoing series of this. I’m addicted to this on my steamdeck, started a brand new fresh island for my second play through.
@ I’d love to see you play Re:Legend, it has mixed reviews on steam but I am also really enjoying that game too. Dinkum is so good, a bit like animal crossing with so many different things to do to fill your time.
Passing out does have some consequences - your tools get damaged and you’ll lose a percentage of the Coin you’re carrying. Early game that may sting a bit. And speaking of stinging - uncooked cactus figs sap some health (red bar) when eaten. So that flinch your character did is “bad burrito” animation. ;) In general cooked fruits and cooked food give more benefits than raw. And they sell for more. If you hover over a food item, you’ll see the stats it can give when eaten. And….although it may be tempting early on for resource hoarding, try to not destroy ALL the Diggo (wild dog) dens you find. The bone / rock piles in the dens are the respawn spots. If destroyed the won’t reappear and are gone forever. Which also means no more Diggos. You *might* regret destroying them later, depending on if you decide to go for certain goals. Same with the ….Uh…large bird nests you’ll find later.
Appreciate the tips! I've recorded a few more episodes and definitely got on the cooking. Did not think about the animal dens, will have to remember that going forward. I probably did a bit more damage but didn't wipe any out. Would not have put 2 and 2 together with them standing around those.
Almost forgot! If you didn’t already find out, there’s a farming aspect that runs a bit counter to what it is in Stardew. Fences are better than scarecrows. As in a completely enclosing fence line. Just wanted to mention it since I’ve seen this come up in the game Discord quite a bit from frustrated players. Quite looking forward to more relaxed episodes of Dinkum!
I've enjoyed it so far. I'm not sure how the long game is, but it seems like it has quite a lot going on with it that I've barely touched (the ability to dig, swim, etc).
How do you identify which trees/bushes are good for food as I've done several game starts with islands that seem to have very little food, crocodiles by the dozen and I've passed out during the initial mission trying to find an appropriate place to set up camp but getting attacked in the process. Love the game and your playthrough. Just finding it hard to survive more than 5 minutes so far.
I just kept shaking any bush/tree that I could - one strategy might be to plant a bunch of the fruit (dig hole and drop it one, then cover with the dirt) right near your camp.
@@hodgepodge Thanks so much for the info. I'll definately do that at next play attempt. Just got to keep alive long enough to get the shovel. Thank you.
The second time I played this game I realized that time stood still while I was supposed to be placing the base tent so I spent, literally, real life hours exploring most of the island; marking things of interest on the map...don't recommend, lol 😅🤣
Haha that's a good tip for making that first day last! It's a decent sized map, it takes me a few days to get properly exploring (by episode 4 I'll be finding just how big it is).
Love this game! I have about 350 hrs in it. You should check out Sun Haven too. Pixel art is amazing and game play is solid & fun. Full release is coming on 3/10.
I've been trying to get back to Sun Haven since I tested it out last summer! I really liked it but was waiting for controller support (which came ages ago now!). Really looking forward to it, hope I can make some time to get started.
I've been told by my kids that I do read out loud too fast (I've tried to slow down but to no avail - I read quickly in general and my brain is way too impatient for my mouth) - it's possible there's a syncing issue but it's likely me continuing to talk after the previous dialogue box has closed.
34:40 Yes it did! You just don't pay attention in addition to being impatient! These don't seem like good traits for a content creator! Is that why I don't follow you? I know I heard about you(from Hill Home) some time ago, checked you out, but for some reason I never subbed and didn't keep any of your playlists saved to watch. I'll be more fair than I usually am and give it a couple of episodes to see if things get better.

It's such a wonderful game - the deeper I got into it the more I loved it. The travel options particularly stunned me!

I am beyond excited that you are playing Dinkum!!!! This is such a great game.
I've been having a blast so far, love it!
I recommend it a long time ago and I'm so happy you finally play it!! I'm still watching all your videos!
I'm glad I finally found some time to record it!
Yay so happy that you are starting this serie!
Me too!
I JUST started this one!!! Excited to see you play!
It's fun exploring so far!

This is such a fun game! It's basically a city builder, with a twist. On keyboard it is all E.
That's a good way of putting it - I get the sense most of my time will be spent helping the town arrive. Seems fun so far!
Good to see this game on your channel 😊 It's pretty fun 😸

I would think the time for the day would be orginally from minecraft but idk for sure
I’ll tell you what, your intro phrase for this series should be “G’day, cobbers and cassowaries”.
Ha! I feel like this game would make me more afraid of going to visit the real local, not less.
I love this game
It's fantastic!

do you read like really fast or the game play and the sound doesn't match? This puzzles me throughout the video ._.

@@hodgepodge wow that's impressing really i wish I could read like this
This game looks amazing but those licenses are definitely a SCAM!
There's going to be a license to get licenses!

I'm not for everyone and this might not be the channel for you, that's ok!
