The way the debate is centered about the existence of a love triangle means it is basically doomed to be anything but positive, especially in a game that leaves so much place to interpretation, as it ties to everyone's fundamental understanding and relationship with the game, the story and the characters. It strikes the perfect balance of ambiguity between canon and headcanon and blurs the line between the two in a way that has created one of the longest and most toxic shipping debate I have ever seen, making it really hard to engage with the community in a healthy manner no matter where you stand and helps maintain the status quo by remaining vague and ambiguous and the simple fact that someone might disagree that the situation is vague and ambiguous in the first place only fuels the disagreement in a way that makes it nearly inescapable. The problem is integral to the very structure of the debate which is why I say that it has been poorly handled.
