- Zeus presents Katakis (aka Denaris) (un-emulated) for the Amiga A500. A true classic from the golden era of amiga gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1988
Bit of an R-Type rip-off but i have to say i enjoyed it more than R-Type.
Great sound fx and title music along with a nice end sequence and end sequence music, a great little blaster.
As some may not know this game was re-titled Denaris due to copyright issues regarding R-Type, you'll even see in the end sequence pictures of the game but with the R-Type ship.
I have used the invincibilty cheat from the trainer menu so i could upload the entire game for your viewing pleasure.

Please note: NONE of my game uploads are emulated in any way whatsoever, they are 100% original recordings by myself taken directly from the original hardware the game was intended for, that way you know you're watching the real thing.
I will also always state weather i am using any cheats in the game, if not mentioned then i am not using any.

I love the Amiga, but this was one of those rare games that was much better on the C64! 👍
Utter rubbish. This was one of those Amiga games that actually looked, and felt like a true arcade game. The C64 version doesn't even come close. And why play music during gameplay, on the C64 ? It only has 3 voices, so it makes for awkward sounding music due to constantly swapping music channels for sound effects.

Absolutely! This here is a mediocre R-Type ripoff. C64 Katakis/Denaris is a masterpiece in sound, art and style.
C64 was more polished, the Amiga version of katakis was ported by a different team(and it shows)

It bought a tear to my eyes, I loved my Amiga in the 90's but like so many I sold it at the time to fund the current consoles in the 90's, the Snes and the Megadrive. I have always to this day wished I hadn't done that. But I do still play through an emulator I pay for from Clonanto, I think that's the word, Amiga Forever and enjoyed all the shooters i had at the time. Denaris, Katakis Battles squadron, Rtype, Dragon Breed. OHH man the list goes on. Its thanks to the Amiga that I now have a full Jap 360, PS1, PS2, and yes the Snes and Megadrive and every shooter released for them. Thanks for the upload, I gave Katakis a go right after watching your video

That's a cardinal sin to sell an Amiga A500 especially to fund a console or jump to a PC, I always resisted any temptation to sell my Amiga as I had sooooooooo many cracked games for it and the machine It'self was just too magical to part with,...and the endless shmups for it,...just wondreful, I've had mine now for 27yrs, never needed a repair and not yellowed,...I seriously took care of it :-D
I too have a megadrive with an everdrive cart (1200+ MD and master system games on SD card), chipped PS1 (to play the best shooter ever,...Einhander), PS2 (best console ever before everything went FPS, it had many arcade compilation discs for it of old games which is what I'm in to), Spectrum 128k+1 (my first baby), C64 + C64C, Atari 800xl, Atari ST (really a watered down Amiga), Amstrad cpc464 (my least favourite machine).

Don't remember this took almost 5 minutes to load though.Played this to death.bloody hard it was too.No game for novices.Rainbow Arts had some good looking games. What was the reason for the name change from Denaris to Kataris ?
Amiga version is a far cry from the 64 one, but at the time of exit (end 1988) was the most advanced horizontal shooter for Amiga. Even samples of explosions come from R-Type!
As graphic artist was a bit disappointed since i knew Amiga could do better than the bland four colored enemy sprites (until later most of games used four color sprites rather than BOBs for game entities)...
However keep in mind that later factor 5 came out with the pretty good conversion of R-type and Turrican!!!!
The c64 version is shite. Watch this, then watch a video of the awful c64 version. C64 = awful gfx, god-awful sound and music. This Amiga version is just superior. Fantastic music, sound fx, and superior gfx.
@@DKTronics70 You must be blind if you really believe that. The C64 version has smooth parallax scrolling, music AND fx, much better designed enemies and enviroments and is not as obvious an R-Type clone as the amiga version.
The only negative of the commodore 64 version is it's bosses, pretty shallow.
Deaf too, because the Amiga version doesn't even HAVE music during gameplay. The C64 one doing so with even fewer channels than Amiga is a real feat, and those songs manage to get stuck in my head all the time..good ol' Hulsbeck!

Random Question this game is on two discs, how often are the disk swaps and does this happen in between levels or only at the start of the game, just intrested?
Original is 2 disks, levels are on disk 2 and all levels are multiload including the shop sections half way through and end of levels.
It was all down to Irem or Electric Dreams accusing copyright over R-Type, so they changed the name along with a few other tweaks,...still sounds the same either way.
Can't believe there's no in game music - such a bad omission for a shmup.

They actually got sued for that by Irem. And this is the revised version. The original version - Denaris- was what got Rainbow Arts into trouble.
