Hello, enjoyed the video. However, I don't have the space for either of these heat pumps. The footprints are too large. However, I see Carrier has the Performance18 Compact Heat Pump. Can you offer information about this heat pump? Thank you.
I had a 4 ton, 2 speed performance system installed last year, they are not built like a tank as he says. The condenser base is so thin the system would not sit flat on the concrete pad, the base is very flimsy, they need to go to a composite base that is very sturdy , other brands are already using them. The top cover for the condenser had screws going in at an angle because the holes did not line up, one screw is half way in and at angle, but QC passed it. The condenser coil has black plastic spacers where the coil meets the base and the coil was not a perfect fit and some of the fins were crushed at the base, but they had those spacers to try and level out the coil, it is hard to describe. The louver side panels do not offer much protection, there is no screw in the middle of the panel on the edges, so when they move it around to position the condenser and push on the louver panels they make contact with the coil and bend the fins, at 4:10 in the video you can see fins already bent on the right side of the unit, probably from someone moving the unit around. Then they put a 16 seer label in the condenser box, I had to call Carrier and give them the serial numbers to confirm it was a 17 seer unit. Quality control is lacking at Carrier. I replaced an Amana system, aka, Goodman, it was not reliable, but it was built like a tank.
@@kg811 It's only my condenser unit giving me issues. I'm gonna go with a 4 ton 2 stage Carrier to match my Carrier furnace. After six years that sounds relatively quick for a big repair. I heard who does install matters alot. I'm hiring an BBB accredited company not fooling around with it.
@@moderndaycaveman2519 No, just a person who had a Carrier system installed and thinks the quality of the condenser construction is poor. Brands I did not want was Trane , Lennox and Goodman, aka Amana. Trane is too expensive and I don't like their spiral coil, looks too fragile and hard to clean; many ac techs don't like Lennox, too complex and costly to repair. Goodman/ Amana; I had Amana and went through two evap coil leaks, 6 years then 4 years
I’ve been installing carrier for 35 years so I’m very familiar with it. All brands have good units and bad units. But as far as efficiency, you’re better off going with a lower efficiency. The actual efficiency units achieve can be less than they are marketed at. The new seer2 rating system helps with this a bit. You have to pay way more for a couple points of efficiency. Sometimes you can’t reach a balance point where it saves you money before it needs replacement. A federal tax credit only works if you owe money on your taxes April 15th. They will not pay you any money if you get a refund. You have to owe. So save yourself money and get a 15 seer heat pump or a/c. Put in a 95% gas furnace instead of a 97%. You will only save a few bucks a month with the higher efficiency. I always find what will be the most cost effective for my customers.
Yes I was a small HVAC owner contractor. Just go for the least efficient , that gets the rebate, and get a good small business to install it. They are reliable and when the die rinse and repeat.
I need help from both of you guys in this thread. My Goodman died and it was just shy of 6 years. More to fix than worth. Do you have a brand you suggest for the least efficient? I am in Phoenix so need this a lot. This will be the main AC as I do have a 2nd unit.
A federal tax credit is deducted from your total tax bill, not the refund. If you had $10,000 in income tax withheld during the tax year and you received a $1,000 tax credit, your taxes owed would be $10,000 minus $1,000 equals $9,000 taxes owed. The only way you would not receive a tax credit is if you did not pay any income tax for that tax year.
This is really good advice. Thank you. My experience has been a simpler version is typically more reliable and long lasting than a complex one. As the lower cost unit looks to cost about half as much as the upper end, it seems like the overall cost of ownership, including actual cost of electricity and operation will likely not justify the higher price. And if the lower cost version proves more durable due to less to go wrong, the cost differential only increases in your favor with the lower price unit
Carrier infinity units came electric if that’s what you wanted to know. I have a 14 year old one that needs repaired this year already replaced tge motor , thermostat, motherboard in outside unit. Wanted to but just another outside unit but the serviceman said you have to replace inside with it as a matched set . I believe that’s bull crap. It’s not WiFi run. Just electric. So they would have to interchange?
I have solar panels and an EV. I love new tech BUT I’m going to keep our 27 year old, original to the house ac for as long as I can keep fixing it. It’s a 5 ton 1997 comfortmaker with a gas furnace. The only issues it’s ever had was at around the 25 year mark the condenser fan motor and air handler motor needed to be replaced. I did it myself and it’s been fine since. Oh and a $25 capacitor. Its never even needed a top off of refrigerant, still has a strong seal and right at the level it should be. Yes it’s inefficient compared to new units but there is no way you will get 25 plus years out of any new ac system. It’s also a beast in cooling performance. I live in Santa Clarita, CA and we have quite a few days where it will hit 110+. On those days it is still able to keep our 2,000 sqft home 68-70!! My neighbors replaced theirs a few years back and it struggles to keep it at 78 at 110 outside. Just taking a look at the parts and you can see how much more beefy they are then new ones. Compressor, motors, piping, so much better built on the old units. New isn’t always more reliable, and higher efficiency does not mean it performs better.
How about repair cost of the variable and 2 stage systems vs single speed? I’ve heard horror stories on cost/wait if something breaks with a variable speed.
if its outside of warranty, it's very expensive, either buy a new unit or have them replace it with a basic component...or shovel the cost. Tis the risk of high efficiency, but honestly cost of everything keeps raising so, we're just fkd period
I have infinity series that blows its MB once every 1 to 1/2 years. in six years time, leaking freon will cost me almost 2 grant. I used it for just 6 yrs, Is it logical to just have it replaced and get a cheaper one?
@@joeyjacinto3172If you want reliability go with the most basic unit you can find. I love new tech and have solar panels and an EV. I’m not anti “new” but when it comes to reliability and performance old ac systems are superior. My 1997 comfortmaker 5 ton came with the house when I bought it new. At 25 years it needed a capacitor, condenser fan motor, and air handler blower motor. I did it myself and it’s been fine since. Never have needed to add refrigerant, levels are still perfect. We live in Santa Clarita, CA and many days it will be over 110 and it has no problem keeping the house 68-70. Neighbors have a new unit and will struggle to maintain 78 at those temps. What’s the point in saving money on electric bills if I have to give up comfort and need to replace it every few years. I’m gonna cry the day it finally is unfixable, but for now it still runs just as good as day one. When it comes to ac systems, the saying they don’t build them like they used to couldn’t be more true. I feel terrible for everyone having these issues, and the stories are endless.
Bought Comfort Series, set thermostat to 68F, turned fan from auto to ON 24/7. I get no sudden "attic heat blasts" when the cooling kicks in. I get constant air filtration due to the fan running ON all the time. The house has no hot/cold spots as the airflow is continuous. It's been running like this for 10 years.
I currently have a Carrier heat pump system in my home. Built in 2007 and it has multiple leaks. I am looking at the performance and comfort series but am wondering if the coils are copper in them or if they were changed to the cheaper all aluminim coils.
That is why people are putting in mini splits them selves some are going back to window a/c. Sad part is after spending all this money all brands today are junk. I have a 3 yr old ruud and have had to replace the coil. Few months later had to replaced the fan motor. Warranty did not cover labor. HVAC has become a major rip off and people are getting sick it.
I most states that’s a great deal. Where do you live? Also he’s transparent with pricing online which is refreshing. Most companies hide the price ranges until they get into your home.
Good stuff. We have an 20 year old infinity system that is still going strong but have started looking at an eventual replacement. Have to research the Honeywell options as our contractor never mentioned a noncarrier thermostat. Does Bryant have an equivalent system for these three series?
For Bryant, their upper end systems are their "Evolution" series so their "best", "Preferred" is their mid tier model, and "Legacy" is their base model. Hope this helps!
In reference to this company residential service call, Taylor was quick with his response and was able to get Warranty parts for me thank you! Found failed air handler motor. Two days later a replacement was available and Dave came out this time and did a professional install along with checks of the AC performance and Freon check. Why no discussion of the Heating Performance? I live in Ohio and it gets a bit “chilly” here in Winter so a Heating Performance review is absolutely essential. This review is incomplete so no thumbs up☹️ It is after all called a “Heat Pump”.
You are better off with a furnace in Ohio. Heat pumps aren't designed to work in below freezing climates. Here in Florida they struggle to heat the house once it drops into the 30s.
Be very careful offering the 2nd year labor warranty yourself. Anything over the one year warranty requires an Insurance license. The Insurance Commission can find out and there are penalties. Speaking from experience. Use a 3rd party insurer and save yourself the headache that goes with an audit. Soeme states may be different. I am in FL.
I paid 27K for a Carrier 5 ton Infinity A/C .... so far, JUST IN 2024, it has gone down 4 times in 8 months. Since installation in 2022 I have had no less than 8 service calls... I am not at all happy with the unit and feel suckered. Not to mention how freaking LOUD both the indoor and outdoor units are when they clunk on and off ... Not to mention when the unit 'ramps up' it sounds like a freaking jet plane in your house ... the balance of the system is non existant
You picked the wrong company to install this system. That is not how the infinity work or should operate. I have been installing carrier for 16 years and work for a company that’s installed carrier for over 70. You have the best system on the market across all brands. None of this matters if the installing contractors is crappy, cuts corners and doesn’t install correctly. Sorry to hear about the issues you are dealing with
@@travisspoerle1557 the latest from the 'experts' that came out AGAIN last week is that the entire indoor unit needs to be replaced. They cannot figure out why since the outdoor unit was fixed (that since day one BANGS that sounded like gunshots when it started up) screwed up the inside unit, and causes the system to humidify the interior of my building when it goes into the 3 degree dehumidifying mode. I have had a 56% humidity level in my building go to 72% when the unit is in dehumidifying mode. I fucking HATE this company and their product

I love new tech and have solar and an EV, I’m not a “new” hater. BUT when it comes to ac older and simple is best. It may not be efficient but neither is having to replace thousands of dollar in equipment every few years. It also performs like a beast. When temps hit over 110 it can still maintain 68-70. Neighbors have a newer unit and will struggle to hold at 78. I will keep it as long as it’s still fixable. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, but all I hear are horror stories coming from owners of new systems. And the more efficient and higher end they are the worse the problems seem to be. Of course installation is a huge factor but the equipment itself is not made to last anymore.
You'd save more money using a stand-alone energy star dehumidifier on home less than 1800sf vs paying an extra $2-3k for a 2-stage system especially in a state like FL (which the Governor F-cks the citizens by rejecting the Federal Tax credits)
@@williamedwards3002 Yea and a twenty dollar part will cost you over 300 dollars to have it installed. What exactly is your point? Again a two year labor warranty is a joke.
I have the entry level Carrier gas pack...3.5 ton and noticed that it was not cooling like it did when it was brand new...(6 years old) but it was still getting the job done...IT just did'n feel like I was stepping into a walk in freezer when entering the house on a hot summer day....I simply cleaned the outside coils..However, those with understanding and wisdom know there is another coil that needs to be cleaned inside the unit...After 6 years it was about 50% clogged and I do change my filters regularly....After cleaning the entire system it is performing like new....It's 91 degrees outside with a heat index of 96 today and this 1800 soft house is at 70 degrees...no shade at all on the house with a dark roof...I do have attic fans....This unit would keep the house in the high 60 degree temps if I let run but when I'm not home the thermostat switches to 78 degree on temp....That's the first maintenance on the system...Gas pack section has had ZERO issues....I'll probably get them to check the charge on the system this week...
Comfort is a nightmare for me I wish i had a place to test all the brands because its either has a high maitience or it breaks then the house is just freezing... the google thermostat nest latest has helped me a lot more and trys to see if theres issues... They need to make them computers cause paying 20-30k for residential without it making your house fly is oddly stupid.

Shady way for Carrier to save money, hoping 1/2 the people don't remember to register for the full warranty
@@MeMe-in8tj the a/c industry is a huge legalized ripoff.
Why no discussion of the Heating Performance? I live in Ohio and it gets a bit “chilly” here in Winter so a Heating Performance review is absolutely essential. This review is incomplete so no thumbs up☹️
It is after all called a “Heat Pump”.
"It is after all called a “Heat Pump”.
Wrong.
You are better off with a furnace in Ohio. Heat pumps aren't designed to work in below freezing climates. Here in Florida they struggle to heat the house once it drops into the 30s.
73dB is like a dishwasher? That’s gotta be one old and crappy dishwasher. Most decent and moderns ones are in the 40s and 50s decibels.
You do realize United Technologies/ Carrier bought ICP in the 90's because the 1st time in history they were outsold by Goodman.
I am in FL.
Explained in our language, for people who dont know sh** lol. Thank you sir!
@@travisspoerle1557 And as an addendum to my post - the system has totally STOPPED giving any gradual air start. It just comes on FULL BLAST and let me tell you in the middle of the night it wakes you up when that starts.
I have a 27 year old comfortmaker 5 ton system that’s original to the house and all it’s ever needed was a capacitor, condenser fan motor, and blower fan motor at the 25 year mark.
What my house needs, hmmm. How about what I want or need
Its not what you want its about your square footage and they correct system for your home. Your not buying a new suit.
Wow two whole years warranty…. My Trane system came with 10 years parts and labor
2 stage is best for your buck….
You'd save more money using a stand-alone energy star dehumidifier on home less than 1800sf vs paying an extra $2-3k for a 2-stage system especially in a state like FL (which the Governor F-cks the citizens by rejecting the Federal Tax credits)
Get a Goodman. Cheapest n longer lasting.
Bad reliability compared to Carrier. Look at the brand ratings
My Goodman just died just under 6 years. Not happy.
@@kg811 mine is going still, after 24 years!
Two years parts and labor how disgusting.
2 years labor, 10 years parts. He said that about 5 times.
@@williamedwards3002 Yea and a twenty dollar part will cost you over 300 dollars to have it installed. What exactly is your point? Again a two year labor warranty is a joke.
@@philippusviridi6527 My point is your original comment was obviously incorrect.
Yeah some companies offer only 1 year labor and your point
@@metaltera86 Don't go away mad just go away.
All parts made in China 😂

Thanks
