    Great update Simon, looking good, it's a bit late now, but I have had similar problem installing a motor in a tight space, I solved it by using the template for the motor and drilled from above all the way through the board, and then you have the holes for your screws, hope this helps for the future, cheers, Dave

    Hi Simon, you seem to be chipping away quite well making progress. Currently still at a halt with mine but watching you doing little bits here and there gives me a kick to get on with it a bit. Stay well, stay safe, Chris

    Hi Simon, hope you don't mind me saying, your layout and videos are excellent. On your station at kidiminster there is a set of points at both ends of the platform so that the locos can come round to the opposite end of the train for the return journey, hope you don't mind me saying just that I was there recently and I can see your clear attention to detail. Keep the good work. Also are you local to that area, I'm from Stafford 👍👌

      Hi Philip thanks for the kind words, yes I've tried to get the track layout as close as I can to the real one, I'm pleased with how its tuning out. I live only a few miles away from Kidderminster station so its easy to go and check if I've got it right 😀

    Hi Simon, good update and plenty being done. I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to ballasting or not, lol!
    A question I would like to ask is do you use code 80 points and if you do, do you cut the wires under the frog and solder or do you leave them intact and solder the wires altogether? I’m using the DCC concepts point motors like you but I can’t seem to quite get to the bottom of how to do it. Peco told me not to do anything so I was left a little confused. There seems to be plenty of video’s on OO points but apparently N gauge points are slightly different, thanks if you can answer my problem.
    Certainly interested in one of those “ I’m in the Shed” T shirts!
    Cheers for now Simon, John

      Hi John, I saw a lot of comments and watched videos on people cutting the wires under the points and modifying them in all sorts of ways when I first did mine. I never really understood the reason either! I use code 55 peco points but I think they are the same kind of wiring / layout underneath. I don't cut any wires on mine, I just solder a wire on to the frog wire under the point and plug it in to the point motor. I think there used to be an issue with old locos where the wheels were so thick they touched the point rail and the side rail and caused a short so maybe its something to do with that but I've never had that issue.

      Thanks Simon, that’s exactly what I’ve done on one point so far and it did seem to work but I see so many what seem like conflicting ways that I thought I’d check with you. I did see one of your episodes of Bodenham Woods that almost showed that which is why I done it in the first place but it wasn’t that clear. That’s brilliant and thank you for your reply, cheers John

    Nice update Simon, by the way what glue did you use to glue the point. I recently made a fence out of sleepers using some old code 80 track. I could not find a glue that would stick them, in the end I drilled through them with a minidrill and put some styrene strip rod through them. I also use Cobalt motors but I use double sided tape to hold the motor to the baseboard, you do need to paint the wood first for good results. Chris

      @SimonsShed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Chris. I usually just use PVA glue to stick the track down which seems to stick the sleepers to the base board but not sure how well it would stick sleepers to sleepers 😀

    It's probably a bit late now, but another possible option for your restrictive drilling problem is to use a right angle drill attachment. You would need a hex drill bit but it should still fit. The Milwaukee 4932471274 Shockwave is the one I have. Cheers

    Hi Simon, I have been following your channel for the past year and have gone back and watched from the start with interest. As a newbie N Scale modeller your channel has offered lots of tips and hints, thank you. What grabbed my interest is the fact that your blades on you points came loose and you were able to fix them. I had this happen twice in a week (while cleaning track), sadly I destroyed mine trying to fix them. Is this common, what glue did you use and wear did you apply it to help bond the blades in place.
    Just out of curiosity how many points are there on your layout.
    Cheers Mark

      Hi Mark, thanks for the kind words! I was surprised the repair worked myself to be honest, I used Revell 39604 'plastic cement' and just put a drop on each blade where it attaches to that plastic bar that slides back and forth to change the points. Then every 5-10 mins I moved the point to make sure it didn't stick in 1 position.

    • @markfrench5145
      @markfrench5145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Simon, "Revell" is scarce to find Down Under, but I was able to find "Humbrol Poly Cement" and it worked like a dream. I flipped the point over and applied a drop to the underside of each anchor point of the point blade. I was so impressed with the overall improvement this creates to the point conductivity. It stops the point blade from moving forward and breaking the power feed from the wing rail. Just by accident you have found a real 100% must do to all points for N Scalers, who have removed the spring wire on their Peco Points for stall motors. I am now in the process of doing the same to every point.

    Your videos are very informative but you record yourself talking waaaay too much and you are very annoying! Therefore I don't complete the entire video! Record less of yourself & more of the layout...
