They say Bostons are great watchdogs and Poppy is no exception! Beware… Poppy might unleash her “terrifying” sneeze-I mean bark-at the sight of a stranger approaching. 🤣
Reminds me of our first Boston, Bea. 150 pounds of ferocious in a 15 pound pup. Our 1/2 pug 1/2 dachshund was barking at 5-6 deer in the back yard one day but had stopped halfway across the lawn. Bea saw the deer and went zooming past Dougie, right at the deer. They ran into the woods and she came back to the house with a definite strut in her step.
Poppy is a beautiful Boston! I grew up with Bostons, then when I was in my forties I decided to buy one as a pup. I really hit the jackpot when I found the most handsome male pup. I later learned that his mother had gone to visit along with her human a friend one day and the humans were just teens and did not realize the his mother was in heat and they were visiting at one of the premier Boston breeder home. No adults were around and Whoops, love was in the air. The lady who owned the kennel was very well known in the show world, most all of her dogs were grand champions in both Canada and the US. So, that was why I hit the jackpot when I was able to purchase my handsome male for a fraction of the usual costs and even though the breeder was upset at what had happened, she still came forward with the AKC registration papers and a printout of lineage. All the dogs both females and males were all grand champions. So I had a very handsome, very healthy boy that grew up to be a prince in my eyes. Later on I obtained a female from a lady that had bred her one time and she free whelped so I was excited to breed my new girl to my handsome guy. In total over five years there were three litters all born naturally, and the majority of the pups actually took after my guy . It was crazy fun to raise three litters and I wanted to keep them all. But that was not possible so instead I became the most annoying seller in the world, I turned down lots of buyer because they just did not impress me. I ended up with each litter selling the last ones at almost four months old because I wanted the best homes possible. My handsome dude was my constant companion, he got me through some tough times by sticking to me like glue and without a doubt he was THE DOG of my lifetime. He passed away in my arms when he was nearly 16 yrs old. Poppy reminds me of him a lot and even a few of the female pups over the years. Good bred, the females always LOOK female in such an expressive way. Love her and hope you have as many wonderful years with her as I did with my guy and I named him after my Mother's favorite song The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, so his registered name was that and I always called him Woogie. It has been thirty years since he passed and I still miss him .

I often wonder if dogs might be related when they resemble another dog of the same breed. With Poppy she definitely looks like her dad and I can even see a resemblance in the breeder’s other Bostons that are related to that same male dog. 😁 I love that your guy was named after that song, so classic and a great fit for a handsome Boston Terrier. Aww! I LOVE this story! Woogie sounded amazing. He lived 16 years because you must have loved him to tend every need. I had 2 mini-bulldogs (The Munsters. Designer breed English/Boston/Frenchie). They both lived 15yrs and my beloved Hermie passed away on Lily's 15th bday last year (6-10-23 diabetes& spinal disease) & Lily died 3 weeks later (non operable spleenic lipoma). Soulmates. I couldn't survive w/out my pack and got 2 Boston Frenchies (profile). They are helping me heal but it's been tough. I want to stud him bc he's so perfect, but have no idea where to begin... Many hugs to both of you (Poppy is SO adorable), just love when ppl love their pups like I do. 😊
I had never seen my pup Roxie get defensive til a dryer repairman came in. She put on the best fierce guard dog show ever. Snapping, charging up growling and barking then backing away only to do it again. She did not like the old dude one bit. I had to lock her in her room to get the dryer fixed. They're very cute little doggers.
She's a clown, I get a laugh from her every day. Poppy looks a lot like her but maybe a little thinner. She is a real cutie. That WUFF and bark. @@poppythebostonterrier
I highly recommend Boston Frenchies aka (Frenchtons). Sully (profile pic) had a Boston for a mum & Frenchie for a dad. It helps with inherited illness from both breeds. Many treats to your dogs from mine. 😊
Congratulations on your new puppy! 🥰 It was the same for us with Poppy… it took a long time before we heard her bark! 😂 She’ll look out the window and watch people and dogs walk by and rarely barks at them. This video was a moment of courage for her to actually use her voice! 😁

Our neighbors had a Boston when I was growing up. Spent as much time as I could with him. Often acted on an irresistible urge to kiss him. It was reciprocated. By the Boston, not the humans.

Lol, yeah she was pretty scandalized by the sight of some people on the sidewalk… her emotions are easy to read by the shade of pink on her muzzle! She was displaying great bravery to bring out her bark. 🥰
I wish I had a recording of one of my Bostons barking. Addison, may she rest in peace, was a pretty big female Boston at about 17 lbs and still healthy, but she had the deepest, most resonating bark that you’d never expect from a small dog. There was none of the “howl” type sounds. Every bark was clear and distinct. And her growls were long and low. She sounded twice as big as what she was. Thing was, she didn’t bark all that much. If she was outside and an unknown dog came up to the fence, she’d be totally calm, walk up and sniff, then take a step back and just stare daggers right through the other dog. She might give a growl or one bark, but aside from that, she would just literally stare down the other dog until it left. Her expression and attitude conveyed “This is my yard, you may go now”. And of course, her sister would be running up and down yapping her head off. 😂
Thanks for sharing sweet memories about your Addison, she sounds like a very sweet dog. ❤️ I love hearing about the similarities Bostons share but yet how each dog is so unique. So cute how they express themselves and communicate with various sounds and body language! Poppy used to be a non-barker but her barking has increased over the past year or so. Lately she makes a lot of grunting noises which are very cute! 😊
@@poppythebostonterrier Addie was a very unique Boston. She didn’t act like a little dog that thought she was a big dog. I think she knew exactly how big she was, but didn’t care…that wasn’t going to stop her. She’s going to haunt me for this, but she had almost a cat-like personality. Even as a 2-3 month old puppy, there were times she’d go all the way to the end of the couch where nobody was sitting and curl up in the corner. She liked having her alone time. She’d be cuddly at times too, but it was always on her terms. She had a very “watch dog” mentality, like it was her job to defend her “pack”. She’d even sit/lay at the foot of my kids crib when they napped. Didn’t go to sleep, just silently stood guard over them. Oh, and she was almost completely seal colored on top of it, which supposedly is only 5-10% of all Bostons. Very, very unique pup. Still miss her to this day.

You should hear our house with 2 frenchies, 2 chihuahas, a siberian husky, and an english bulldog\american bully mix 😂😂 you want to talk about being protective. 😂 our lil 6 pound. Chi can hear an ant walkin down the street 2 blocks away and he's barking.

I had my Bostons at a dog park once and someone walking a Boxer said “Awwww, they look like mini-boxers”. I looked right back at their dog and said “Awwww, it looks like a giant Boston”. And we both had a laugh, but I made sure….Bostons are second to nobody. 😂
