    Love Mosrite tone all day long, and great playing. That said, this Mosrite has many issues and to a Mosrite collector would only be a parts donor. The worst part is that the binding has been removed from the neck and then the neck sanded down to meet the fretboard, making the neck narrower. This can be seen in the neck pocket where space is visible between the neck and body.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      also the original metal string guide has been replaced with a bone or plastic nut, probably to increase the string height making the zero fret useless. and the neck bolt plate is missing, along with the trem parts.

    Only thing I don't like about the finish on it is that it's a thick high gloss. It's a personal thing of course, as my preference is a depth evoking slick satin. Love that they took the binding off though, I detest there being binding on necks.
    Don't think you'll have any issues selling this as it is though, seeing as it'll fit a group of people's singular crevasse.

  • @101Volts
    @101Volts ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You're right, it's looking like it's a 1964 (or maybe very early 1965?) model that was refinished in the 70s. Also, the tailpiece has been modified for some reason (it should have a vibrato arm,) and I don't get why there's no neck plate, so that might be missing. The pickup rings don't look original, either.
    Since you said there's no trouble bending notes, it might have been re-fretted. If the frets aren't the same as my 1966 model (0.070" wide, 0.022" tall on the Low E side, 0.015" on the High E side) then I think it was re-fretted. Mosrite did change to taller, wider fretwire in 1971 - 1972, but that was a ways off from when this one was first built.
    The neck on my 1966 model is about 0.860" thick in neck depth, from frets 2 - 12. It doesn't taper up. The neck/fretboard width at the 0 fret is 1.560", so it's thinner than Fender's 1 5/8" (1.625") size.
    I'm glad you didn't call the pickups "P90s," just sort of in the whole Jazzmaster and P90 range - they're somewhere in-between those types of pups. They're almost like clean as a Jazzmaster, but dry as a P90, if that makes sense. They're just at a good place in-between.
    I'm also glad you pronounced their name correctly, as "Moe's Right." The name's a combination of the names "Moseley" (the last name of the head of the company,) and "Boatright" (one Reverend Boatright financed Semie Moseley's guitar tools early on.)

    • @memorylane7068
      @memorylane7068 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Horrible modifications. It would have had a thin neck cover plate to cover the screws, unlike the '65 and later ones which have a screw-through thicker neck plate. It needs a new string rocker to accept the vibrato arm. the body has been sanded out of shape. The tuners are late 60's Japanese style, which were used on later Mosrites. There is WAY too much wrong with this guitar. The neck has been sanded slimmer to make up for the missing binding. You can see the gap between the neck and body in the video. This guitar is worth the parts of the pickups, bridge, tail-plate, pickguard, strap buttons, and maybe the harness (pending seeing original pots).

    • @memorylane7068
      @memorylane7068 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All that said, I love Mosrite tones and Michael's playing is always supurb. I still own about thirteen Mosrites today.

    • @memorylane7068
      @memorylane7068 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The three tell-tale '64 signs are the tall bridge height screws sticking up through the bridge deck, and the counter-sank neck screws which would have had the thin cover plate, and the no-logo smooth pickup covers with the smaller fillister head pole screws.

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might want to double-check on the neck. It works fine for me, but they're noticeably thtinner at the "nut" (not really, it's a zero fret guitar) than Fender's common 1 5/8". That said, if you don't like the 60s models, the 70s - early 90s models tend to have wider necks. Or you could just buy a Hallmark Guitar instead, which isn't exactly the same but is very close.

      101volts -I have a Hallmark 60 Custom. It might not have the cachet of a Mosrite, but it’s a great guitar. The neck is just wide enough for me to play it-I can’t play those skinny Mosrite necks!

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cojohnso80 Sure thing. One other thing; I can't speak for the 1976 - 1992/1993 models, but Mosrite weren't known to pot their pickups early on. They can squeal easily, but they're tonally sort of in-between Jazzmaster and P90 Pickups.
      Mosrite Pups are supposed to use Alnico V magnets (they did use a "break-to-size" magnet in the 60s, which was discontinued around the late 60s - early 70s - but that doesn't seem to matter if it's Alnico V,) and either AWG 43 or AWG 44 wire. The casing's not as long as a P90, it's 2.975" on the outer diameter (I measured the casing for my 1966 model) and it's 2.875" on the inner diameter.

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jfinester I have heard that Hallmarks have slightly darker tone, but they'll get you in the right neighborhood. I guess the tonal difference is partly because they pot their pickups.
