I read that he had no scars on his body except for the pokes from the tusks of his buddy trying to get him back up after he died. He truly was an incredibly amazing elephant. RIP Tim. You’ve earned your rest! ❤

Saw Tim in February 2018 - he was with about 8 of his wild bull friends, right next to the gate at the entrance to Amboseli. He now has a collar and is closely guarded. He is over 45 years old and quite the big boy. He can be easily ID'd because he has a large lump on his right rear hip. We've seen him on 3 safaris and he is always the "go to" in beautiful Amboseli.

Rajiv Welikala: No probs mate! Want to get REALLY close to African wildlife? Go to Nehimba Game Lodge (middle of Hwange Nat Park). They have photos of the owner's wife petting an elephant's trunk as it's drinking from the pool. During summer, eles are also known to drink the water from the shower while you're under it. And usually you need an escort to take you from your chalet to the dining hall (as lions, eles and leopard are frequently spotted around the place). Also enjoy a sundowner and snacks AMONGST 2-300 elephants on sunset - as my family and I did. And go to sleep in plush surroundings listening to distant elephants trumpeting, and the low moaning call as lions hunt......pure magic!! My kids LOVED it!! 👍😉

I’ve always been a fan of African wildlife since I saw the movie Born Free about the lioness Elsa. Also my mom gave me a book called African Wildlife for my 7th birthday & I still have it. It’s so sad to know majestic creatures like Tim are in danger of extinction now. There are only 2 black rhinos, both female, left in the world. We need to take better care of our planet & the ecosystems we have been given stewardship of! Why don’t we?!?

A herd is led by a matriarch that chases off male offspring that grow to mating age. Some males may then form adolescent bachelor herds that can benefit from the experience and moderating presence of a mature bull; however, once a bull goes into his musth phase, his aggression to other males makes him a loner seeking mates. Older tuskers like Tim here have nothing to gain by associating with other rambunctious young bulls. He likely did all that decades ago.
