    0:34:00 Love what that 0.1uF ceramic cap does to the bridge pickup (assuming it's still the original part).

    Fantastically tasteful playing from around 17:53 Jeff, touch, timing and dynamics gorgeous, waaay up there with the best of the best and still Jeff.

    To me, they all sound like Jeff! He picks great guitars, and then adds great mods, but beyond that his tactile response is really the dominant factor. A fair question then is do the slight signal difference really matter much? In my view, what he brings to the guitars is the biggest factor in achieving "his" tone. He is one of the best, so he brings his best to each guitar. (I also believe that the difference in guitar tone is much more evident in the brain of the player than in the brain of the non-player listening in, even to a trained ear. There is mental/emotional factor that kicks in with each guitar. You see that clearly when Jeff plays his strat. More emotive- the connection formed with the strat draws out his best playing technique. Fascinating video.

    I was, after 25 years of playing for fun, an intermediate player. Only this past year have I been jamming to backing tracks and got a g-dec from fender and a looper pedal. My gains have been exponential.

    Super fun video, Jeff! I definitely call the Les Paul “home”, though more and more I find myself blissing out with my PRS McCarty 594. I enjoy Strats thoroughly, but, largely they make me appreciate the PRS guitars even more.

    I don’t know what it is but the PRS sound never grabs my ear. It’s a shame because I love their approach to making guitars.

      @@JeffMcErlain As I read this I’m listening to Grant Green’s Grantstand album. What a sound. Probably his ES330. Yes, there are lots of great guitars to choose from.

      Yep. That has been my experience too. I've owned quite a few too. Last remaining soldier is my '00 Singletcut. Wife loves it. Iike it, but I always wish it were a one of my Les Pauls as I play it. And then when I move to hard rock, I grab an Ibanez, or the like.

    I’m catching up on your channel Jeff. I found it very interesting that the Les Paul sounded better (to me) than the PRS, but you were fighting the LP, and it didn’t want to balance in your lap, while the PRS looked like a cakewalk in comparison.

    Thank you! Liking! Is the 494 a teeny bit shorter than the LP? Like, 1/8 unch?

  • @agriff4795
    @agriff4795 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, back when Larry Dimarzio invented the Super Distortion pickups, all we had were fuzzes, non master volume Marshalls, or if you could wait a year or longer you could get a Boogie(Mark 1).

    Can u start giving jump times in the description? Something akin to what That Pedal Show does in their descriptions @the bottom of their descriptions would be really cool. Also I skipped through as many times as I could but could not find anything about a Tele.

    Is the 594 ebony or rosewood board? Already bought a Bloomfield Drive thanks to your videos, now I might be in trouble re: the 594 (I thought it smoked the LP).

      @JeffMcErlain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Rosewood! Ha, I’m glad you liked the demos and listened with your ears and not eyes. I love my LP btw… but very different and equally as good IMO. And cool on the Bloomfield, love that amp!

    I always hear "a PRS can never sound like a Gibson." I have one that I've gutted and put in typical Gibson 50s wiring and Gibson pickups...it's sounds like a Gibson. Yet, it plays much more ergonomically like the PRS. Best of both worlds.
    PRS pickups very much have their own thing going on.

    the Gibson LP is THE original beauty, but as Paul said, they have "issues"....:-Pauls guitars are great (without issues) but they're not Gibsons...:-) does that make sense...??... i've got a Tele and Strat (fender) a prs single cut (SE) and a semihollow from Sire (larry carlton) and they only other gutar i'm gonna buy yet will be a Gibson les paul....that's it....:-)
    ps...and i'm a BIG fan of yours Jeff...!!....you play how i aspire to.......

    • @JeffMcErlain
      @JeffMcErlain  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. I think each guitar is it’s own thing. A Les Paul is a Les Paul, a Strat is a Strat etc. That’s why we want one of each, or more. LOL

      I actually loved the simplicity of your answer and can only hope that your followers read between the lines. You are very patient with your fans of this channel as you need to be, but as a debatably intermediate wanna be guitar player of 20 years, I’m not sure sometimes if folks are recognizing that what they are hearing from your playing no matter what guitar, has much more to do with your touch, feel, understanding of the instrument, and the endless hours of study and practice you put into making you the professional musician you are today. Folks, you can have a gazillion dollars to spend on all the guitars, amps, pedals, etc. but if you don’t have the passion, time and sweat (and hopefully an ear and some talent) to put into this instrument, you will never sound like Jeff or any of your guitar heroes. Mastering any instrument is a lifelong journey. Enjoy the ride and your discoveries along the way. Just don’t delude yourself that you can “buy” what Jeff is sharing with us. I really miss not being able to watch Jeff “live” anymore, but catch up when I can. This guy has a gift that we can only aspire to…

      @@Bill-se4gr if your comment is directed at mine, (about my guitars) i vcan only say, i don't have tons of "gear"or "gazillions of dollars...but i have been playing guitar since 1970, in bands at the time....stopped playing in the 80s for 3 decades and redescovered my love for guitarplaying...and i enjoy it more now than back in the day.....and if i can "affford" it today, what's wrong with that....:-) greetings from germany....and have a nice day...

    I have 2 LPs and strat. That covers a lot of territory. If I could only chose one I’d take the LP. I don’t know why but I don’t like PRSs. It’s silly but I just don’t like the way they look ha. I guess I’m a traditionalist.

      You will at some point get “that feeling”
      For a guitar you will love.
      I did have remarkable luck buying my schecter solo 6 off guitar center online used….
      An amazing guitar, perfect for me…
      Its the older version 2 scale. Just needed to be cleaned and adjusted.
      The gods smiled on me that day.
