I love how there are so many more affordable options coming out that are actually good. I don't really have the budget for most of them, but they are the types of boards that I could maybe save up for, which was never going to happen with a $300+ option...I just couldn't find any possible way to justify paying that much..but when I'm now seeing options in the $80-$120 range...well that's different. I could maybe rationalize that expense and not feel too bad about it.

Another really good budget custom is the Neo65 it's cheaper than the board shown on the video but it is also a 65% as opposed to a 75% shown which layout you prefer is up to you but if you like 65% have a look at that.

I bought the "Techware phantom 87 plus elite" (a bit of a tongue twister). However, I really don't regret buying it. the keyboard has held up well and sounds quite good especially with the "tape mod". I chose the brown switches which are made by Techware, and they have also held up pretty well (feeling, quality, and sound wise). But if anyone got this specific keyboard, I would recommend the tape mod, and also to mod the space bar and a few other keys by putting double sided tape in the keys for a more THOCKY experience. I hope this helped, if not sorry for wasting your time. (BTW: it cost about 80 U.S dollars)

The slower pace is quite nice. i like how indepth you went. Both keyboards end up looking great but its interesting how the barebones just doesnt save you money. Like at all. The switches are always gonna cost you more than 10 dollars (unless your a keyboard youtuber with a closet full of switches) and its the same for keycaps. Its kinda wild.

I believe the keyboard with the screen is being sold as the V75 PLUS and is also sold as the Finalkey V81 PLUS.
So basically, if you see PLUS it's got a screen.
Hoping Hipyo can get a hold of a Leobog Hi75 and the AI75. These are really pushing the lower end of the hobby forward.

I've picked up a number of GMK67s from Ali recently and they all have that plastic, just poke holes and go it makes them sound much deeper compared to previous version I had. Been looking at building one of these, definitely have to check it out now! I picked up those switches in the prebuilt, Matte I'm assuming, as someone suggested a comparison to my WS Morandi but with less stem wobble. They are definitely smooth but also louder and a little higher pitched than the Morandi. Still I was very impressed as they were about half the price.

So I don't have this exact board, but I do have the v65 r1 which is basically this board but with a few quality of life things that don't really affect feel or sound. I put ws heavy tactiles, with just 2 layers of tap mod, and damn does it thock nicely, I recommend people try this combo as it's my favorite one I've had so far.

For the problem with the switches, something quite similar happened to me. I had a keyboard with lubed switches (I lubed them myself), and after traveling by plane in my checked-in luggage, some switches were dead. Not idea whether the lubricant is responsible or just the transport (might have something to do with temperature difference in a plane? Or pressure?), but yeah, switches don't seem to like this so much (never had any issue when traveling in cabin luggage though)

I have a project for you (if you haven't done it already). Instead of spending that much on tiny amounts of expensive lube, get some Super Lube silicone PTFE grease. It's what I've always used on switches and stabs, and IMO it works great.
Be warned though, if you lube switches with it, use an _extremely_ light coating.
It's cheap and you can get a big tube of it. Enough for a lifetime of keyboards.

Got zoom75 and cidoo v65, and I can't say that cidoo is a zoom killer - v65 feels cheaper, sounds much worse out of the box than zoom, keycaps are not for everyone (I immediately replaced the stock ones cause they hurt my eyes plenty), flex so-so. Guess 75 is not far from 65, but yes - cidoo is cheaper, can be modded and available right now, unlike zoom, which you can't buy just like that. Now my zoom is almost perfect and cidoo will be rebuilt completley in an attempt to reach the level of zoom

I just got the Mints or Mint pros or whatever they're called, and I don't even remember them mentioning lube on the website, so I started pulling all the switches apart and about halfway in I noticed they were prelubed. There's very minimal lube on them and none on the springs so if that's not your preference maybe don't get them, but you'll always be making that kind of tradeoff with prelubed switches so I can't really complain. The switches feel really good imo.

Now I'm torn between that one and the monsgeek M1W. Seems to be about the same, can't really fathom the difference between the two to be honest. I've got a Leopold FC750r in brown with QMX clips and a Nuphy Air V2 atm, and i'd like something to replace the Leo that's a bit "lighter" and easier to mod. Which one of the two would you recommand? Thanks.

I use the leobog V3 and the leobog V4 of that switch and never had an issue before. The V4 are nicer and are 5 pin while the V3 are only 3 pin. Pretty much the same price and I would use the V4's over the V3 anytime. I used them in my Leobog Hi75 all aluminum case keyboard and only paid $63 Canadian for the barebones one with no lighting. For $30 more you can get the RGB one. I love this keyboard and how it sounds. All thanks to watching Hipyo and now I have a custom keyboard build adiction now. Thanks Hipyo...

@@foxboy1305 the way I see it, anything $50 or less is budget, anything $150 and below is good, anything $500 or below is expensive, and anything above that is just top of the line and super expensive. I'm 14 dawg, my perspective of money isn't the same and is quite dumb but that's just the way I see it.

But it is budget? It may not be to you, and that is understandable, but you see, as Einstein said, everything is relative and if you compare the prices in keyboards, and not just your very personal and subjective financial situation, 200$ is simply budget for a custom keyboard. That's how the world and the market is right now kiddo, sorry, and it makes sense for hipyo or other ppl in general to call it budget in his videos.

I'm very interested in mechanical keyboards. I've purchased a few but didn't like the ones I tried. There may be many reasons for this but for me, not having shine-through key caps is a deal breaker. It seems like it's quite rare to find, and I don't understand why that is. Why are so many companies producing keyboards with backlit keys, but not shine-through caps? You won't be able to see the legends at all in low light.

Ah, your cat and your videos. I had pet skunks, and one of them, Professor Moriarty liked to be lifted onto my desk so he could nose things around. Just a general inspection. When he wanted down he's pause over my keyboard and a blissful look would come over his face. When I lifted him down, my keyboard would be wet and stop working. When did it start raining in here? I laughed it off and swapped in another cheap keyboard.

This is identical to the V81 plus which I built on stream recently. Must be the same manu. I was actually really impressed, even with the stabs. It’s actually not bad without foam. But I found that it was pretty good with the plate foam at least. The case foam does help a tad though.
