location of the pier please. thank you
It's the small things to notice...I like the way you have your extra line and leaders attached to your cart.
Thank you Martha! Definitely makes life easier! You reminded me I need to make a quick short on this - thanks!
Great channel, great content, really helpful. I just started pier fishing again for the first time in 35 years so I could take my son with me without having to worry about the boat. We are having a blast! Forgot how much fun the pier was😂…🤷♂️
Thank you Brian I love to hear it!! Happy fishing to you and your son!
Great video! I was in SC recently and really enjoyed catching Spanish mackerel, but I want to go again and zero in on them, so I appreciate these valuable tips. Many thanks!
One fun fish to catch! Thank you!
Will try this , moving back to NC at morehead next month , been retired in Florida last 10 years
Thank you for showing us how to make the mackerel tree!
Absolutely! th-cam.com/video/6BNrAzSJPVo/w-d-xo.html
u can also use an xrap those can often get a big spanish or a king or if u you’re mainly targeting spanish u can use a hex head jig/cropie jig
Ive never fished for Spanish from the pier. Always from the beach. But, its a new year! (Always used clark spoons and gotchas. Ive seen them caught on bucktails and glass minnow jigs though.) Good video!
Right on, we'll be trading places this year. I need more beach hours! Happy fishing!
Thanks for the video. Got the fever now.
Absolutely! Happy fishing!
What a fun fight!!!💪👍
Very educational
Great!
That bait you showed at the picture is the exact same one i have🤣🤣
Right on!!
Thanks
Great vid 👍
Thanks Hunter glad you enjoyed it!
I have a few Gotchas...I'm going to try them at the Cameron Jetty in Louisiana. Might get some Spanish there.
Oh buddy you will be surprised what you get out there! Be ready! Happy fishing 🎣
well done 👍👍
Thank you!
the Gotcha is a classic for sure..
Can't go wrong with any color
@@CarolinaShoreFishingwhat size gotchas do you recommend?
@@anatess07 1oz
Been killing it at Johnny Mercers lately. Does color of gotcha plug matter at all?
It does matter a little and can be affected by the water clarity, color of water, how the glass minnows appear in those conditions, and that sort of thing.
Been having really good luck with a clarkspoon spoon squid #00 and about 7 foot of liter with a 3 ounce weight and I get hit almost on every cast in the morning my pier. I just cast as far as I can and straight retrieve about half way let it drop to the bottom and reel again.
In Tampa Bay I do this.
Great video! What would you say are the best times of the day and conditions to catch Spanish off the pier here in Wilmington?
You want nice clean water that's cooled below 68*. Usually the sunrise and right before sunset bites are good. I would focus however on fishing an incoming and falling tide. In the spring you want to cast off the S end of the pier and in the fall you will cast off the N end. Happy fishing 🎣

Nice video. I'm from holden beach and I'm trying to learn to catch Spanish I got the gotcha plug and also the Spanish mackel tree rig problem I have is I'm wheelchair bound and the pier railing is to high for me to work the gotcha so to me the tree rig woukd be best. Any other pointers for my situation woukd be appreciated. New sub love the videos
Yes i agree the tree rig will be best as you will be vertically jigging that. Dont be afraid to vertically jig the gotcha as well. You can look into the rod rocker that mounts to ur rod and pier and also some people DIY them
@@CarolinaShoreFishing thanks man def will look into it
Love the videos , how often do you fish murrels inlet jetties ?
Thank you Tim! Not often enough 😥 I'd say once or twice a year if I'm lucky.
360th like, let’s go!
🔥
What’s the best time of year for Spanish? Any around in late July?
In july youll want to use live bait. My favorite time of year for them is september-october
Den using these lores for 65 years
What is the best time to Mackerel Fish? I’ve never had luck and I can only go fish for them once or twice a year. I want to bring some home to put in the freezer 😂
I was told now but hit Apache pier two days ago and nobody caught anything. Trying Springmaid this afternoon or tomorrow
@@bjsmith9191 i called a bait and tackle shop. They said Surfside and Garden City Pier are biting
May is prime time for them
What rod and reel do you use?
Rod is a star rods stellar light rated to throw 1/2 - 1 1/2 oz. And the reel is a 2500 runcl but idk that I'd recommend that reel. I'd probably grab a battle 2 or fierce 3 reel for it.
Is it ok to use the heavy duty liters, they are the black durable wires, and can easily hook on your lure. Is it ok to use the heavy duty liter?
In my experience, you don't catch as many spanish but the blues don't seem to mind that much. I always recommend mono or fluoro leaders for gotcha plugging. You will find the action is better too.
I know the concrete pier was johnnie mercers……what was the wooden pier with all the benches that you fished
Springmaid pier th-cam.com/play/PLcdehyP7MmVGkQZjrIW2tzu9y_wcegDIS.html
Do I need a weight with the tree and spoon?
Either a bank weight on the bottom or a 1 to 2oz sting silver casting jig or a diamind jig will suffice
Do u use a clarkspoon with the tree rig?
I use a sting silver usually or a diamond jig
What size/type of hooks on your mackerel tree?
J hooks 1/0
@@CarolinaShoreFishing thanks...i took a guess and bought 1/0, 2 and 4 sized long shank hooks from eagle claw/vmc.
@@CarolinaShoreFishing going to be spending some time on the cherry grove fishing pier in about 10 days from now.
Right on the bite is really picking up now
What’s the typical size you catching?
Ranges from 12 to about 22 typically.
No it's definitely a bubble rig
Easily
Great content.. just what I was looking for. Unfortunately your camera angle is not good to see what you are doing. Angle it down towards your hands more?
Thank you Kathryn! In this video, I just wanted to talk about the best ways to go after Spanish and how to work the baits. In a future video, I intend to show the knots and how they are tied in a more relaxed setting using paracord so it's easier to see. Happy Fishing!
@@CarolinaShoreFishing great! Love the paracord idea. Could you do one specifically on that mackerel rig as well?
Absolutely! I have this video which utilizes the same knot except you won't want to do the extra twists (t-knot) for the mackerel tree. It doesn't matter for it and will take a long time to do that many. I save the t-knot for bottom rigs. th-cam.com/video/YRSWANqD_F8/w-d-xo.html
Which pier is in this video? Johnny Mercer?
Yes
Can you provide address please and how much does it cost to fish from pier.
They are all different. Check here at www.carolinashorefishing.com for a list of piers in NC and SC with the addresses.
ALL THOSE PEOPLE FISHING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU NEED TO LEARN WHAT SPACE STANDS FOR
Pretty normal here when they're chewing
Why are piers always 20 stories above the water,......."Oh its because of hurricanes,...."We dont fish in hurricanes, were not from Louisiana, well I am.
Its a SC thing fasho
Fishing that close to other people doesnt seem like much fun. You’re essentially touching tips there
Yes we are
it would be better if camera actually recorded what you were doing, next time :)
Thanks there will always be more videos 😉
please dont pier flip a fish like that again
why not
@@luisjinete_ It's not a dog or a cat........IT'S A FISH!
@@Bhugee45😂😂😂😂
And flounder strangely enough. I've caught a number of flounder on that lure.
Same here!
