What’s the point of post docs? It just seems unnecessary. I don’t like to travel and that’s a given in astronomy. I applied for a physics PhD and hopefully I won’t need to do a post doc. Looking to get into Mathematical/Theoretical physics btw. Astrophysics, although a passion of mine, is just too competitive.

You mentioned at one point that you basically end up as a programmer while doing your PhD, what languages do you primarily use in your research?
I've heard GRE's are being phased out, especially the Physics GRE and to stay away from schools that require them.
It's all about finding the cheat codes to slay each level boss along the way.
