Hello Phuc Map it's me again. I just love this video of you walking around saying hello to the locals and chit chatting with some of them. There's something real and genuine about this. Not only that I find it extremely interesting as well. As a Vietnamese born in Saigon and raised in a small town called Soc Trang until I was 12, these videos really hit the sweet spots for me. I left VN at 12 yrs old, forty-two years ago, and only came back to visit once in 1997, I really appreciate seeing my motherland through your amazing interpretation. Both broken Viet & English. 💥Phuc, you have mentioned in another video that 90% of your audience are Vietnamese.💥 I am pretty sure everyone on here has multiple channels that they watch when it comes to Vietnam. For instance when I want to see it from expats views, I watch you, Max, Dustin, John, Sonny. When I want to see Vietnamese, I watch tung tan tv, hanoi food, etc... I would watch your channel over the most expats channels any day of the week for four reasons: First, your attempt of speaking our language and learning our culture. And you are here for the long run. Second, you respond to your subscribers. Third, you are friendly and converse with the locals. Fourth, you are not creepy. I find some channels are extremely creepy where grown old males video young under age girls (secretly) , including for clickbait. Of course, the other expats easily cover the third point. They also some what cover the second point. I watch your channel because you cover all four points. Yes, Your accent is not perfect but I can guarantee you that you as far ahead most viet kieus, as well as your usage of vocabulary.
I checked you out because you are an American living in Vietnam. I continued watching because you are funny. I subscribed because you speak your videos in Vietnamese with subtitles in both languages. Very true. Everything you said is correct. I watch his videos and his enunciation is very helpful. Especially since the rising, falling and other tones are so important. Hands signs help also.
Another comment on your post. I too enjoy his comedy. His "twin" videos are funny. The ones with where he's being corrected by his wife and in-laws are well thought out. His street scenes make me look up those vendors and I really enjoyed the one scene where the security guy came back to Saigon after 20 years from Seattle, my hometown.

I'm a viet Kieu and you probably accumulated more Vietnamese culture and language in your time there than I have in my entire life. I just don't interact with Vietnamese people on a regular basis, and even if I do, it's always in English. The best part about your videos I think is the English and Vietnamese subtitles going on at once. It's the best way to learn a language I think, and seeing the culture is an added bonus. Keep it up and Chuc mung nam moi!

Yep, the walking video is a nice format. I have learned a few vietnamese phrases and use them in the local vietnamese market, in my case Mekong market in Mesa Arizona. I have fun and Phục Mập is known to the Viet kieu.

And how you inter- act with the people. How about showing a google map of where you are. I watched another video of yours, I heard you say you where close to the airport.My girl is Vietnamese and when I stayed in HCM, it was very similar to this area. Meaning I also didn’t see any other white guys. I went to the tourist areas and saw all the tourists from Uk, Australia, Germany, but I really enjoyed staying away from all that. And the prices are better. Lol

She is from Biên Hòa though hasn’t been able to go home for a long time due to covid (which is why I’ve also not yet been!). Your channel is a nice way for foreigners to get in touch with the language. It would be very helpful one video with best basic sentences to learn in Vietnamese. Just get the basic ones you use most and share with us the right pronunciation during daily talk and greetings like this vlog. Thank you

She is from Biên Hòa though hasn’t been able to go home for a long time due to covid (which is why I’ve also not yet been!). Would be amazing if you could head over there and check it out sometime, we can’t find much content on that area, generally. Anyway stay safe, hopefully the lockdowns are short and effective 👋🏻
