Victoria has been targeted for years regarding her size. They literally weighed her on tv after her first pregnancy to check whether she lost the baby weight!!! It’s not even just the industry she works in but she herself has been specifically targeted for most of her life. The media loves to pick apart people for possible eating disorders that the media itself had a massive part in creating. I have so much compassion for this woman and how hard it must have been to go through the scrutiny she has.

In our house, sharing food is a bonding experience. My husband and I eat lunch together and our household eats dinner together in the dining room. Our pod comes here on Saturdays and I cook a big meal to share. Then, we watch a movie with dessert or popcorn. For some of our friends, it is the only homemade meal they will have in a week. I can understand why DB remembers the one time VB shared his meal :-(

After I started making an effort to end my disordered eating habits, I realized how much more fun Friday night dinners were with my partner. I didn't stress myself out with all the diff rituals I'd usually do and now I can just live in the moment. It's been a couple years and I totally forgot about this benefit until now. This is what I learnt in my recovery. I wouldn’t be able to eat with my partner or enjoy date night or even just a simple meal together if I followed my old food rules. Literally not a single meal would’ve been permitted before. And spending time eating is such a bonding experience

Victoria has always been honest about her disordered relationship with food and her body. In her memoir she "wrote" about having eating issues and the impact of her treatment by the media on this. I still feel sad for her that she's never found peace or freedom from it. Her restrictive lifestyle cannot be a fully happy one. Even if food's joys are not a big deal for her, not sharing them with loved others must taint experiences with them. And her definitions of healthy are pure restriction and orthorexia -ironically the opposite of the "health" this purports itself to be.

I've had people who have questioned me to the point of interrogation about my food choices. Do I like to eat in such a restricted way? This is kind of what I was thinking myself. She also has eaten a certain way for so long that a shift in diet might also make her feel sick. My cousin is vegan. He went vegan for his reasons but now cannot eat meat because it causes his stomach to get distressed. Whenever I eat food out that are cooked in a lot of oils my stomach dies the next couple days but that is because I don't cook with a ton of oils. Nothing about this sounds simple or healthy. A complete misappropriation of common words to create diet mystique. Clean = not "dirtied" by oil, butter, dairy. Simple = no complexity in flavor, as it's probably upsetting to eat something delicious. Healthy = no variety, no flavor, and therefore no danger. Fussy = rigid. Discipline = deprivation. Body gets fatigued from producing cravings and basically gives up. If a new flavor (aka nutrient) profile was introduced, her body would go buck wild. She would eat for a year straight, it would be unstoppable.

She's not a model making youtube videos about how to lose weight or showing vulnerable young people what she eats in a day, she's not promoting bad habits simply by eating the same meal for 20 years. This is so sad! I’ve always been the “healthy one” among my friends and ate much like this for years. I was constantly getting injured from overworking out and under nutrition, felt annoyed and anxious around eating and would methodically plot out all my meals. Videos like yours helped me to have more awareness over my eating habits and I’ve been letting myself eat foods that I thought were “bad” which was not only sugars but things like cheese, potatoes and rice and I have felt so much better! Sadly these ideas around “clean eating” do impact social interactions. I’ve had to let go of friends who had similar eating habits as I had before as they would tell me how bad I was being for eating cake or warning of how I will be fat someday. Its horrible, and just sad :/ I’m glad though that I am living and eating in a much more balanced way though.

She doesn't only eat fish and vegetables either. As noted in the last few minutes of the video, (seemingly once the keep them engaged value over the restriction was repeated over and over) she eats, avocados, nuts, whole grain cereal, fruit and some green smoothies. The queen lived to be 96 I believe and she ate a lot of fish and vegetables as her main meals when at home and special K for breakfast. This is the way many Americans ate in the 50s and 60s before marketing reps, fast food chains and "nutritionists" got ahold of the world and filled their heads with what's "normal".

    • @anacastrodavila2689

No, what are you talking about? That is not how people in the states ate in the 50’s. People ate cake, pancakes, pies, they usually had dessert. Obviously they didn’t eat as high calorie dense as people today and that is an issue with fast food companies, but people used to eat a lot of sweet and calorie dense foods in the past. For example I live in Costa Rica, in the 40’s and 50’s people ate rosquillas, tanelas, cajetas, casados (rice, platain, beans, some meat, and veggies and maybe a salad) all of them had a lot of sugar, carbs, and fat, my grandmother cooked with pig fat, my grandparents died due to cancer and one of the explanations was that my grandfather ate a lot of fat (also poverty), so don’t assume people ate as restrictive as Victoria because is not true. People ate healthier food in the past? Probably, but that is due to fast food being easy to get, not because people in the past were that restrictive.

Victoria has Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome (like myself) and it’s the most painful and infuriating diagnosis ever. Because a symptom of it is that you put on weight like crazy, but the usual response from doctors who diagnose it is to either tell you to “lose weight” or prescribe pills that expose you to life threatening risks, pain and discomfort for long periods of time. It’s hell. I also have a sneaking suspicion pcos is just the longtime result of malnutrition, exposure to pollution and heightened stress in women. Some studies have linked it to gut malfunction, others have linked it to repeated psychological trauma and its impact on the body. The irony is that the moment I got out of a stressful environment and started eating a varied nutritious diet and moving my body in moderation instead of over-exercising was the moment I stopped bloating, and I lost weight.

Personally I eat once a day and have done for seven years. Health wise its been amazing for me! And my health has been optimal during this period (5"10 male, 175lb) Omad works well for MY body and its functionalities. I have never been interested in the focal point of social interactions being around food and I view food as fuel only. I struggle to see how my habits could affect someone else or my relationship with them..And it hasn't. I've been asked a few questions over the years but I'm grateful that my relationships don't revolve around how much or what I eat. Several times I've been to social gatherings with an empty plate and enjoyed the company. Perhaps like me; Victorias life has space for food and that space is using it as fuel.

Yikes. Just because somebody likes their food cooked a certain way and likes to eat plant-based fresh foods is a means for targeting them as having an eating disorder???? As far as her family goes, they can still all eat together; just because she’s eating something different from them doesn’t mean she’s not participating. I eat a very healthy, plant-based diet as well, and my family completely supports me with being ‘picky.’ This is a whole lot of fluff and nonsense. Shocking how many people agree with your judgments. Hey Abbey! I have already posted this comment but: Could you talk about how countries have different «meal plan»through the day?
I have an ED but in my country (France) we aren’t given a lot of help to recover or understand our problems… So I turned to English resources since there are a lot more than French ones. What made me confuse for so long was how different English speaking people «generally» eat compared to what French dietician advise!
For exemple: for lunch, I see a lot of English speakers eating a main dish with carbs, protein and vegetables. However, what is advised and common in France is a main dish (same as for English speakers) BUT we add a portion of raw vegetables/salad before the main dish, and then a dairy product (cheese or yogurt) with a fruit.
It really confused the side of me that wanted to eat «perfectly» bcs of how much food recommendations seem to be different from a country to another.

Why does Victoria's choosing to eat simply make you sad? It feels as though you are projecting your feelings onto her. If she says she enjoys the way she eats, why not leave it at that? It's not an unhealthy diet at all. Most people I know are overweight, eating crap all the time... going out to dinner & lunch numerous times a week, eating foods slathered in oily sauces, fried foods, high sugar, high sodium, etc. Yes, eating crap once in a while is fine, but most people's version of once in a while is actually numerous times a week, if not daily. Personally, I truly LOVE to eat like Victoria: simply prepared grilled fish, poultry, and vegetables but I also eat carbs in the form of potatoes (sweet & regular), unrefined grains (steel-cut oats, buckwheat/kasha, etc), avocadoes, olive oil, and sometimes wholegrain or sourdough bread.
There is nothing sad about someone enjoying healthier choices - and what they feel works for them to feel good, mentally & physically.

I’m sorry but this is coming across as an attack/blaming Victoria. If she is coming from a place of disordered eating I’m not sensing much compassions towards Victoria and only hearing it for those around her who are feeling the knock on effects. Women are constantly attacked and judged in the media, especially in the early 2000’s. Victoria doesn’t need another commentator telling her “your husband wants to share food with you”. She needs someone to say “I see you, I hear you, are you ok?”.

3:18 She has spoken about having an eating disorder in her teens. Any journalist would know this if they did some proper research. I remember this because a friend of mine and I looked at a Spice Girls interview and neither of us knew what it meant and asked her mom who is a medical doctor. We can’t ever know the specifics of anyone’s eating disorder unless they share that, but it’s not difficult to pick up on someone having an eating disorder because the norm way to nurture you body doesn’t change in a medical, nor in a biological way too. But you can’t know if someone has an eating disorder or a medical issue just by looking at them. There is a diffrence between assumptions and knowing what something is when the person or people who live with them opens up about how things actually are. I hope she is being kind to her daughter and doesn’t project her disordered thoughts on her in a cruel way like many mothers with eating disorders sadly might do if their daughter has extra weight or might be viewed as too big for the mother’s taste. In her old reality show she made rude comments about her assistant’s weight, and if she is comfortable doing that then I personally can’t see what’s stopping her to say mean things in the safety of their home with no ine to call her out on it.
Addition: This could also be signs of autism/asperger (not too many people will be able to stand it mentally to eat the same thing like that for 2,5 decades unless they have an eating disorder or autism/or both. Which is not the same as avoiding something due to religion, ethical reasons or allergies).

@@powderandpaint14 could be, but like. The autism/sensory processing dysregulation thing can hit on fats - I myself cannot _stand_ the sensation of dietary fat in my mouth, oils, butter, yoghurt, drinking milk? terrible, the worst, it leaves a coat across the entire mouth and it won't go away, people who say they like full fat cheese are ALLLLLL lying liars who lie, from my frame of reference. I solve this issue by means of the Healthy Eating(tm) combo, avocado eggs nuts and seeds. Oh, and fatty fish. A slize of a good crusty bread with a sprinke of salt and some cracks of black pepper sounds heavenly to me, toast with butter like a punishment.
Don't get me wrong, I think VB has an eating disorder. But I also think there is a tendency to assume Picky Eater, or Sensory Dysregulation, or just I Like Boring Food (aka, the beige diet, aka have you been tested as a super taster?) is masking EDs - we've overcorrected as a culture.

    • @soilgrasswaterair
      @soilgrasswaterair 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@powderandpaint14 I added autism to make people aware that it might not always be what they think. And an eating disorder will not always start because of a trauma and a lack of dealing with emotions. It could be a medical issue that triggered it, such as thyroid issues that might result in weight gain and before getting diagnosed sometimes people try to adjust their weight by restricting their food intake and as a result they may develop an eating disorder. See how I´m talking in general terms and not discussing her specifically because no one really should do such a thing. Not even a doctor where her doctor works should engage in such behavior, trying to diagnose some who is not their client unless a co-worker is asking for advice. U see? I study psychology and thanks to that I see lots of what is being said, and I still wouldn´t discuss someone like that online in terms of what they have and don´t have. Even though I have picked up on lots of things that I know whith a fact aligns with what is seen with different people and how they live etc.

But I do think it would have been good to include that fact in the video because I know if I look in the direction of simple carbs or sugar, or even too much dairy I break out in acne and my periods stop 😭 I think it’s quite logical that having something like PCOS that may require a stricter diet to stop symptoms can lead to more extremes but I think it’s worth a mention that having something like that can be a pain when eating socially and while it’s not balanced and wouldn’t be healthy for the average person, it makes sense having that bit of knowledge and is probably more healthy for her than it would be for others.

Came straight here to see if someone commented about her PCOS! There is such a small amount of help out there if you’re suffering with PCOS symptoms and diet plays a huge factor so glad someone connected this to her diet. Women with PCOS do have a much higher chance of ending up with disordered eating and I was hoping Abbey might connect that as well. Either VB is eating very healthy to manage her symptoms and weight or she does have disordered eating as a result of a chronic illness and should have a bit more sympathy than people in the comments saying she’s too thin and will die of mercury poisoning 🙄🥺

I have PCOS and ironically I eat quite high carb, since I eat mainly plant based with fish occasionally, I do main sure I get a source of protein in some form in every meal (lentils, beans tofu) with a ton of veggies and it’s really worked for me. Haven’t ever needed to diet and am very firmly in the healthy BMI range. It can be seen as annoying to have to manage your diet due to PCOS but idm cause I enjoy my food and we learn how to eat healthy at an earlier age, let’s see the good side lol. But Victoria is definitely too restrictive and rigid in her diet, it’s okay to eat junk food and eat out, moderation is key and a healthy diet should work around your lifestyle, not dictate it.

Extremely restrictive, low calorie diets actually increase inflammation which in turn worsens PCOS symptoms. I'm really not comfortable with using PCOS to justify an eating disorder. Abby is a professional and refrained from diagnosing but anyone who goes out to a restaurant and orders wilted spinach with salt is suffering from an ED. Having PCOS is not a sentence to eat super bland, boring, below 1,200 calorie diets forever. You can still have everything in moderation. You might cut some things like refined sugars, but not carbs at large.

I wonder how this affects the relationship in other ways too. From my experience, when you are this restrictive about food, you're also rigid in other areas in your life and you're generally a pain in the ass to be with.

It seems like Victoria has an eat to survive mentality. I don’t understand how some ppl live like that. I guess you are right Abby, they convince themselves what they want to believe 🙄
