I bought a IM in August2016 still loving her ....Great video as always Cheers
In Europe this is the Toyota Auris. Here it has four engines: 1.2 turbo gasoline: 116ps, 1.4 diesel: 90ps, 1.6 diesel: 111ps, and the hybrid: 136ps. There is a hatchback (5 doors in Europe) version and a Station Wagon version (Touring Sports).
The 2016 Scion iM is a trifecta of Toyota engineering because of it's tC Suspension with a shorter wheel base, 6-Speed Manual or 7-Speed CVTi-S Transmission, Four Wheel ABS Disc Brakes, LE Eco Corolla engine with 137HP Running on 0-20W synthetic oil ,Mono-spec with a host of standard safety features and standard amenities, Plenty of Cargo Room, 2 Year or 25,000 Mile Scion Boost Complimentary maintenance plan, Available TRD intake, TRD lowering Springs, and TRD Sway bar just to name a few, and all under $20,000 dollar price range. Its no ST as far as Straight out performance, but it can corner well and the driving dynamics are impeccable . Both transmission's put it in the sweet spot of the RPM band at all Times. The iM is Best Value in its Class with its Potential to be super fun with bolt TRD part's that you can choose yourself. The Personality of Scion is Quirky, Weird, Fun , and Innovative. They have a Transparent buying Process, Fun Easy going Experience. Competitors premium models that cost $6,000 more bucks with Leather you Don't need, Wheels you Don't want and Stereo that leaves no option to run an aftermarket amp and sub-woofers like with the stock Pioneer Radio's on Scion's. People are going to take that Money to the bank with Toyota quality and reliability, awesome resale value, and the Fun Aspect of Scion. I hope you Enjoyed this little iM, You guys are always Fun to watch on all your Reviews. Keep it up!
I never understand the "it needs a bigger engine and more horsepower" people. Not every car is a sports car, some of us just want a nice, reliable car.
I have one, it really needs a lot more power to match it's look.
Do you own a Miata??
I've noticed that Nathan hasn't been in any reviews for quite some time, I liked his input and thoughts as well. Will be be coming back soon?
FYI: Nathan was just featured three days ago: th-cam.com/video/HaFQHyroN2o/w-d-xo.html You can also get his take on the new Range Rover at TFLTruck.com
The Fast Lane Car Yeah, I can see that he was in the discussion - but I miss his actual reviews too. Its good to see that he's still around, I understand though - everyone has a life and maybe not enough time to always be there for a review session so no worries.
Pibbmasta Nathan was also in Monday's MMUSA video. In fact he's in Idaho now driving to the highest mountain top.
+Obcydian I couldn't find the iA review? I hope everything is ok with Nathan.
i dont see him since auqust 2016
I don't think it's a bad looking car. But as someone who has always bought Toyota/Lexus, I think it's time for them to up the ante a bit. I know Toyota uses Scion to create cheaper alternatives, but would it be so bad to offer some more fun to drive options under that banner too? If this car had the option for a turbo, it could make use of that rear suspension to have more fun.
Or you can boost it yourself
+Grip Maniac doesn't that void warranty
Nice to see the return of the Matrix! It didn't work with the Matrix, but I think that they could price it higher and sell more if they'd make it a Toyota with a Premium package option - moon roof, leather, push-button ignition, etc. (like the Corolla S Plus to S Premium). Curious to see how this experiment plays out.
It's not a new car it's a toyota auris with a scion badge, and it's not really based on a Tc platform because the Tc is actually a toyota with a scion badge too...
That's there you are wrong. The Toyota Variant of the tC was only made for 2 years in Europe and is no longer sold there. So it is in fact based off of the tC platform. The Toyota that you are talking about is actually a Toyota based off a Scion
PS3Gameplays123 Actually, you're incorrect. They're all based on Toyota New MC platform that debuted in 2006 in E150 Corolla/Auris, of course reworked for newer models. Reworked in a different way, for example tC's version has longer wheelbase. iM is simply a rebadged boring EU/JP Toyota Auris.
Lol fantastic editing showing the iA interior on the iM review
Lol I noticed that as well.
The IM doesn't look like a bad package, but Toyota really does need to develop a turbo motor for this chassis. This car makes some promises its powertrain can't deliver.
The video shows the interior of the iA at 4:58 mark....not the iM.
Toyota really needs to upgrade their engines. This old 1.8l was the same engine used back in the early 2000's it was also used in the Pontiac vibe back in the day. Very reliable engine but kinda low on power and low on modern engine tech.
hey i saw thet toyota dude on a driving sports tv episode talking about the rav4 awd system i think
I bought in red FFFF.. amazing car i love her
I'm surprised Toyota didn't put a torsion beam axle in the back for North America to save even more money.
I like the color and I'm 64 yrs old . Is this built in Japan ???
100% JAPAN BUILD
The Corolla ECO drivetrain with CVT is the downfall for this car. At 3,000 lbs, it needs more power (and, yes, I've driven it a few times already). In fact, the Corolla ECO has more HP with the same Valvematic engine and weighs less.
The styling is pretty nice and clean. Not like a Civic that is all over the place. It's TC based so it should drive pretty good. The sales guy though is lame. Seems he didn't really know much about the car.
I like the Honda Fit much better and I'm not sure why.
This car does not "handle well". Spending the additional money for the TRD upgrades does help.
Nice new matrix
the manual transmission will still out preform the best cvt in the same model.
only if the CVT made to mimic the gears, like the one in this iM
Antonio Barral Estévez In Europe there's also 1.6 132HP gasoline engine.
sic22l Well, before the restyle of this year, that engine was offered, but now, at least here in Spain, that engine is not offered.
Antonio Barral Estévez It's still offered in some other markets.
Got a typo in the tittle of the video. It's post to be always
*supposed to be
Most people will use this car In city driving
So who reslly needs mora hp?
Hey.. At least it isn't as catastrophically ugly as the Scion iA
new matrix is all he had to say..
It was funny the guy just BS the driver about why the iM is better than the Golf - as if Golf has none of those options. :D Anyone else catch that?
Grammar error in the title. :/
Corolla's "drive-line" and Tc's platform... "Lively drive-line under the hood."... Does drive-line mean engine at Scion? I have never heard anyone call a motor a drive line. Also while on renaming things let's just call it a Matrix.
Kevin Alan It's basically rebadged Toyota Auris (Corolla hatchback) which they refuse to say for some reason.
I'm not sure why they call any of their entry cars Scion for that matter. I always thought Toyota was smarter than to take a page from GM's market cannibalization tomfoolery.
+sic22l. Because Most people wont know that
Manuel Correa That's the point. It's TFL's job to say this.
Should've at least been 160hp, and the rev limiter makes it boring
brandon nicholas All car have rev limiters today.
Detune the limiter, add bolt ons and lowering springs
there's a quick video clip of a mazda interior in there... careful guys
Eric Marcotte scratch that its a video clip of the other new scion interior that's built by Mazda at 4:57
There's nothing sporty or handling about this car at all. All the other reviewers just thrast it on the way it drives and it's lack of power.
VW Golf is in a whole other league. The iM is just ugly.
+MAXTONE I own a 2015 Scion tC, I love Toyota/scion but the iM is just ugly imo, not to mention pretty weak with only 130hp. If you think the Golf is boring then, what would this be?
It's a ok car
Babysitter review.
"what makes it good is the sporty engine, folding seats, utility with hatchback". Bullshit, ever heard of a GTI, hell even the regular golf surpasses this. So does the Mazda 3 hatchback, Ford focus and fiesta st, etc. This is bottom of the class when compared with others. What a bunch of crap.
at around 2 min he asks, "what would Dodge call this yellow?" how could he not say lemon? Chrysler sucks.
It's overpriced.. Also nice 130 hp.. Very "sporty" car... Seriously guys? Lol
"Lively drive line", Uhhhh no
Have you driven it?
Nik Brudar I had a Scion xB, I know.
MrGovenator1 this is not the Scion xB
Nik Brudar They are both economy cars. I know how "lively" Scion economy cars are.
MrGovenator1 you cannot tell how the car drives if you don't drive THE actual car about which you're talking. I mean Porsche Cayenne does not drive like a Porsche Macan..
so its a POS corolla rebadged and cost a lot more? i think i will pass
That car is pure shit. I'm surprised it can even move with only 130 HP!
nageorgiou2
Yeah, he asked how it compares to the VW.
Hmm
210 HP
258 torque
Sports tuned suspension
premium interior
Jeff K Resale value and reliable.. two things that lack with VW.
Coffee please No VW has decent resale value. Reliability isn't to shabby either. this car is much shittier
Yea... you keep on thinking that haha. Toyota are kings in reliability... Resale value is high too... not as high as Honda but not far.
Jeff K In the US this Scion comes closest to competing with the base Golf, which has 170 hp and typically will cost a bit more.
Why do you guys review the worst cars? Scion and Toyota as of now are garbage. Also, I've never seen you guys review an evo.
The Evo has not been updated in years and they only review new cars
