Nice.! This is always shown same way: rhizobia migrate away from soil N2 into root where they become densely packed into nodules, which also disfavors good access to N2. Breaking up soil to improve aeration would favor erosion. Nodules surely form as shown, but I have yet to see a textbook or video explaining how this should work efficiently. Can legumes transport N2 in air from leaves to roots, maybe even attracting rhizobia or promoting their growth? I have seen nodules on clover in rather hard, tight untilled clay. Raises questions how N2 reaches nodules.

@Maciej Jan Długosz Greetings! This video was made involving the portion of Root nodule formation covered in pre-university level books for medical entrance exams in India. As root nodule formation is a very complex and elaborate process, it wasn't possible to add all the facts in this animated video. I have written an article on the same topic on my website and I'll try to edit it, to atleast add the role of different essential elements involved in the process, including that of Cobalt. @@BIOWIZ nah you didnt get my point i have a basic question.. like as we saw , the bacterias infestate in the roots forming that infection thread thingy and then it multiplied and projected towards vascular bundles (for like transport of food and things but thats ok.. that i understood ) i was asking that if the infection thread was invaginations then it multiplied to form nodules then how is nodules outgrowths of root (as you stated earlier ?)
The infection thread is just an extension of plasma membrane of root epidermis inside the root. In that sense it's a space filled with bacteria. This extended membrane grows inwards and releases bacteria inside the root cortex and pericycle layers. This makes these cells meristematic and it starts to divide to form root nodules on the outer side.
Interesting, it seems like a repeat of the process that created chloroplasts. I wonder what would be necessary for nitrogen fixing bacteria to be passed down from parent to child, and if such a situation would create a new organelle alongside chloroplasts and mitochondria
For that to happen bacteria must find a way to reach the upper parts of the plant and enter the seeds... As the infection is only limited to specific parts it's very unlikely that these bacteria will be able to exist as endosymbiote like chloroplast and mitochondria in near future.
@@BIOWIZ It seems like this current situation is the easiest way then... lest an algae engulfs one of these bacteria and evolves a new branch of life, which wouldn't really be able to compete with current plants Bacteria could propagate alongside plants that grow offshoots, but then the bacteria would have likely already existed in the soil so it wouldnt be necessary to transmit them within cells. I wonder if there are any plants that do transport anything on that scale from their roots up to their flowers or leaves

Hello, I do not have much on-field knowledge about the plant. But I think presence of Rhizobium in the soil from beginning will help as they'll be readily available for the plant whenever required.

Nitrogen along with other gases diffuses from air to the spaces present between soil particles due to concentration gradient.

These bacteria can divide on their own. Just introducing them to the soil is sufficient.
So like the nodules... they are just gaps (or a more scientific term being invaginations) or do they act as cell.. like what exactly are nodules ?
They are outgrowths from the root. Contains cells having rhizobium trapped in it.
