    You missed one very important fact for road warriors, the new MacBook can be charged with an external battery. If you carry a full size one like I do, it can nearly double battery life, and you can also use a solar charger to charge the MacBook.

    Lisa did such a good job with this review! She put a lot of thought into how to characterize the differences in the screens. She pointed out things I didn't notice when I compared these two models in the store, but that I think would have bothered me with time. I love how she demonstrated the difference between the screen angles by rotating them in different planes. Also, the equidistant microphone to show sound differences was a great idea. So glad I found this video.

    Awesome review! My classmate uses her MacBook for college. It is very light and convenient carrying inside the bag. But the only big problem is that it only has one port. So I'm sticking with the MacBook Air which is 300 dollars cheaper btw.

      Well make sure you buy the macbook air with 8GB of ram. 4GB of ram is great for now BUTTT if you are already spending about $1000.00 on a laptop you might as well spend a little more ($100.00) to make it last MUCH MUCH longer. I would say if I had to guess 4GB of ram will only last another 2 or 3 years until it starts to really slow things down. Thats my guess on it

    First of all, I want to say that you have quickly become by favorite youtuber when it comes to electronics.
    Secondly, I just wanted to put out there which of these two MacBooks I went with and why.
    My main laptop until this point was a 17.3" Alienware, and I loved it. But it simply was not practical to haul back and forth to classes with. I think we all know that the majority of the small Windows computers are notorious for either being slow, buggy, and have poor battery life, or sometimes all of the three. I loved my aging MacBook Pro (2011 13.3") because it was just so freaking reliable, which is why I gave it to my younger brother.. But when I came to looking for a smaller, more portable device these two were the ones I knew I would have to decide from. I ended up with the 13" MacBook Air.
    Ultimately it came down to this. I hate the fact that the MacBook only has a single USB-C port. Portable hard drives are a necessity for me, and by the time I would buy all of the necessary adapters for USB, HDMI, VGA, etc. I would be in MacBook Pro territory as far as price. All I wanted was a light, fast, reliable laptop to carry back and forth to classes and two write papers on in the Lounges.
    I definitely recommend both of these computers, and as I work at BestBuy, I can say that 99% of the time when these computers are returned, it is either because they can't get used to OS X because they came from Windows, or because they decided they wanted a different Mac.

    I was so torn by these but got the Macbook Air, which I think combines portability and power with convenience (i.e.. the ports) and is good for what I do which is media, broadcasting, blogging, publishing and audio design/work. When I saw the new MacBooks, I felt like it would smash into a million pieces if I dropped it. The Air is sturdy, fast and though I miss the retina from my 2012 pro, and the speaker quality - that's a trade off then it comes to how much more powerful and convenient this Air is. It's a nice blend of the power of the Pro and the lightness and portability of the Macbook.

      Idk I just feel like any computer needs ports, I don't know how some of you think 90% of people don't use ports but that's false, most people will have to use ports, it may not be everyday but a student will need it some days or parent that transfer thing to more then one computer, it's a nice design but design should not be more important then the actual product.

    Nice review, very helpful. I got my Mac Air back in Feb 2011, have used it as my main laptop since, and been very happy with it. Now it needs to be replaced (a blue line has appeared on the screen and won't go away) I was looking at the MacBook as a possible replacement but after seeing this review I've decided to get another Mac Air. Thanks and God bless!

    Guys, there are color profiles you can get for the LG panel's on the macbook air that vastly improves the color and makes it less dull looking. Also set appearance to graphite, and the traffic light buttons won't look as pixelated. I also installed all the icons from mavericks, and now I don't even notice any pixels like I did before. Honestly Idk why yosemite looks more pixelated on regular screens than mavericks did, it could be just me. I have had to clean out the macbook air keys, I'm kind of worried about how you would ever get those macbook 12 keys out.

    Thanks for the great comparison/review. Just today I visited an Apple store to get a replacement for our Macbook Air 1,1 from 2008. It came down to connectivity and the replacement of not just our old hinge broken MacBook 1.1, but the possibility of replacing our white Mac 17" that is getting up in years. The 13" 256GB might not be the latest thing, but the connectivity, battery life and price point will meet my needs.

I much rather spend every pretty penny to get a great computer thats made out top quality materials rather than buy a shit cheap laptop thatll either break or become to slow in a year. To answer your question Luna Lovegood Id have to say the MacBook Air is a great all around computer because its powerful enough to edit some videos and pictures while remaining beautiful, thin, light and it has PORTS! If you need something ultra portable with a better screen the macbook would fit the bill better

    People that don't like apple are typically well.... BROKE. Let me just say, if you can afford it, IT IS WORTH IT. THE SPEED, NO LAG, USER FRIENDLY, SHARP LOOK, it's worth every penny. For example, my 12" MACBOOK, i had more than 30-35 windows open, and it was still going as fast as if I only had one window open. NO LAG AT ALL. it's is so portable so quick and powerful inside. the only thing i don't like about this new 12" would be the keyboard, it's not raised up at all and it seems as tho really hard to type.
    At least I have it, and everybody else want it because they just can't afford it. see i worked hard to get mine, it's a reward to myself, it looks good, i feel good and that's all that really matters. thank you.

      ***** Incorrect, the older mid 2012 13" Pro with optical drive only has Intel HD 4000 graphics whereas the new 11" and 13" 2015 Air's use Intels HD 6000 graphics which is a huge upgrade in video performance. Just compare the amount of ram the integrated graphics get to use alone:

    I recently purchased a Macbook and it is the BEST Macbook I have ever bought. Without a doubt this is the best laptop for everyday average use and school work. I don't go a day without it! The price was worth it

      Are you stupid? In NO way is this 1299$ Facebook machine worth it. I'm glad you like it, but this laptop simply isn't worth it.

    • @DanteEspinoza
      @DanteEspinoza 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      PCFanatic I think a lot of it is a matter of who uses it. Like me I go around school all day with tons of books and a light laptop is exactly what I need. And the macbook is great for everything I do. Essays, blogging, social media, web browsing I even do light photoshop work and adobe muse. It runs all of this with no problem. The retina display was also a big seller for me over the MacBook Air. It really just depends to the customer. If a student is buying it this is great but if a graphic editor is buying then its not very functional for them.

      I thought about it but they wanted more money for a USB-C adapter. I felt it should be included, as it was not very useful for anything else. They include a power adapter, after all. Not very powerful either. I'll stick with my older Air. A great machine.

      The sweet spot for value in the Macbook line is the Pro. Still light, but much more powerful and it has a retina display. Plus the many useful ports that it has.

    I went to an Apple store to check the 12" MacBook and just fell in love with this notebook. It's the best ultrabook out there imho for folks like myself that like a great display, quietness, and portability. This device made me think: wow this is Apple for you! Unfortunately, I need to run Windows natively for my work. I'm still waiting on your review of the Samsung Ativ 9 12.2".

    so if I can get a macbook air for 750 or a macbook for 1300, which one should i buy? I don’t mind not having many ports and less power, but I don’t know if I should save up for the Macbook with a better screen and portability or just get the air for cheaper and have a worse screen and be less portable.

    • @ratchet2266
      @ratchet2266 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      please dont buy a macbook . if you want to upgrade the ram in the future or exchange the harddrive you cant . its soldered in . for 730 you can get the 2018 Acer Aspire 5 A517 17.3",
      17.3 inch full hd . i5-7200U 2.5GHz - 3.10GHz, 16gb ram ,NVIDIA GeForce 940MX which is enough to decently game on, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1x usb 3.1, 1x usb 3.0, 2x usb 2.0, and hdmi nativly no adapters. sure it weights alittle more but thats because in this one you can exchange the harddrive and ram how you like it. and its louder because it uses actual fans to cool the computer . macbooks and imacs suffer from thermal throtteling, that makes the computer slower when its too hot.

    • @ratchet2266

    Form factor is very convenient, plus touch-screen capability! It's a solid improvement over the UX305, and a return to "battleship grey" vs "professor plum" coloring. Amazingly, still retains
    the $700 price point.

    I have a MacBook Air 13" and as much as I would love to upgrade to something with a better display, this new MacBook won't be it. It has the power of a netbook and the price of a MacBook Pro. It has no ports which make it useless to me as I plug mine into an external monitor at work every day. Shame, hopefully they improve it next year with the 2nd gen.

    Better yet, if you want an Air, wait till June. Apple leaked that they were planning on releasing an upgraded Macbook 12 inch at their march event but they didn't, meaning they'll release it in June, alongside an expected MacBook Pro redesign/refresh. Also the iPad Air didn't get an upgrade, only the pro did. Alongside the fact that the current MacBook 12 inch is as thin and light as Apple could get their MacBook line up, leaving no point in the word "air" being used in the MacBook line up as it'll only be heavier and thicker than the current MacBook. Theorising that they're getting rid of their air line ups makes sense to wait till it's clear in June, as there will be drastic price drops in the air line up, when all the other MacBooks have been upgraded, leaving the air underpowered and old in comparison. (Still more powerful than the MacBook 12 inch though unless they drastically spec it up in June)

    • @TheReesey277
      @TheReesey277 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apple is moving away from the "air" name tag. The smaller iPad Pro is similar in weight to the iPad Air and air 2 and was meant as a replacement

    • @jcole7336
      @jcole7336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ReesesGamertag that's what I meant. By removing the air line up and replacing it with the 12 inch line up, the MacBook 12 inch should get a drastic price drop, closer to the price of the current air. Considering it's only expensive because of its unique new design, the MacBook Pro will have a similar design in June, leaving no reason to keep the price so high on the 12 inch MacBook. Kicking the air out of their line up will also drastically lower prices for the Air as stores will be trying to clear out their stock.

    • @jcole7336
      @jcole7336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      price drop for the macbook 12 inch: unlikely but possible, because it's a first gen product it was so expensive, so either the next gen or the gen after that will have a price drop in order to be able to sell it now that it already has a defined market. Also it's priced the same as the pro, if the pro gets the same design as the macbook, then the macbook wont have the excuse of it's design keeping the price up so high.
      price drop for the macbook air: Apple seem to be removing all their air line ups, be that ipad and macbooks. The macbook air still has a standard display. macbooks have had retina since 2012, if apple wanted retina in the air, it would have retina in the air. Apple updated their macbooks excluding the air, with force touch. Apple didnt release an ipad air 3, instead a pro 9.7 inch. If they update everything except the air, then it makes the air obsolete, meaning they wont produce it anymore and stores will be on a clearance sale for the air.

    • @jcole7336
      @jcole7336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the default cheapest model of the macbook and the macbook pro are the same price at the moment, if you spec either one up it doesn't count as a reasonable comparison because they have different specs no matter what you change the specs to, but if your goal is to get your hands on a macbook, and youre going for a base model, theyre both the same price.
      As popular as the air has been, when the macbook gets skylake processors, the macbook will be more powerful if not on par with the current air. Add the fact that it's as thin and light as they physically could get the device. If they lower the price in june, it seems like a for sure air replacement. regardless of the air having been popular, the macbook is pretty much an air either way, its slower than the pro, but fast enough, it's the lightest macbook, it's a smaller option and the most portable, that's what the air pretty much is, so all apple really did was remove the word "air" from the lineup to show that all of their products are light rather than making it seem like just the air is.
      on another point, kinda irrelevant, but what the heck are apple doing with the ipads and iphones its actually annoying even though it doesnt change my life in any way. It used to be, if you want an ipad, you get the ipad with the biggest number. you want an iphone, you get the iphone with the biggest number. now they made an ipad air, which there was no point in having air in the name considering there was no other ipad to compare it to, might aswell just call it an ipad. now they replace the air with the ipad pro, again, theres nothing to compare it to so why even add that word pro to it, its just an ipad either way. iphone se, why not just iphone mini?... loool my rant probably seems dumb but it was on my mind. there should be an iphone 16, for 2016, and ipad 16, for 2016, add plus or mini to the end of the word to signify its size and thats it.

    • @jcole7336
      @jcole7336 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant a skylake macbook would be equal or faster than the current air. If the air gets skylake then it will be faster, but in comparison to the current air is what i was referring to.
      I think the general idea from Apple is if you want a computer for work, you get the pro. Regardless what you do.
      If you want a computer for general things such as browsing, word files, and you have a main machine at home, you just want something to use for say an editor or a programmer, then you can get the macbook.
      Thats not my opinion, it's just how I think Apple are marketing it, I think the pro is always the better option, you wont hear the fan in the studio, it only goes on in highly intensive moments and even still is close to silent, just leave the macbook pro outside the recording booth but the wire going in, if youre worried about it.
      I agree I like that they brought out a 4 inch iphone, I just dont like the new name of it, the SE, it sounds stupid to me. The iphone 6s mini makes sense, seeing as they already use mini to distinguish the ipad lineup.
