    This may be the 101st time I have watched this performance of the totally satisfying Bruckner Symphony #1 conducted by Paavo Jarvi leading the Frankfurt Radio Symphony. Let me remind you all, the 200th Anniversary of the birth of Anton Bruckner is approaching, September 4, 1824. All the cultural institutions need to be thinking about how to honor this giant! Best Wishes from Washington,DC....

    It’s really beautiful. Bruckner is particularly difficult to interpret. Subvoices, polyphonic texture, the choice of the dynamics of certain melodic lines etc. A magnificent and extraordinary interpretation. Let’s also highlight the work of the camera-men. A perfect catch! And let’s also admire the beauty of the young musicians. Bravo! Edouard (musicologist).

    A rare performance of the Bruckner 1, utterly refreshing to my ears, scores full of wonder and his signature written all over it. An exuberant Symphony full of youthful force throughout the movements without pretentious attitude, faithful to his heart and style. A great piece that was coldly received when it was premiered. To me it is as if a precious stone have been unearthed from a long sleep. Let us revive this wonderful piece, Bruckner Symphony No.1 !!

    Mahler was certainly inspired in this 1st movement to write his 10th symphony's 1st movement, in a very unique way. He took this theme starting at 2:01 and created lots of variations over it according to his psychological state. By the way, this adagio by Mahler along with the one from the 9th symphony by Bruckner are my all-time-favourite adagios.

    From the beginning of the time, when I got to know Bruckners works and could never let go of that enormous music afterwards, I became aware that he was one of the greatest composers in terms of counterpoint and harmonization.Technically.What enormous priorities and their solution.Who else had that beside abilities near Mozart and Beethoven?
    I would have treated him to hear his works.Some he has never heard, such as the mighty ninth. Today he would probably be surprised about the performance of good orchestras.

      But you must admit some people just don't like his music. It is so strongly marked with his unique style, that one wag once said he wrote the same symphony nine times. You certainly have to put your "Bruckner head" on to appreciate these wonderful works, and let him take you at his own pace. Some people are irritated by the constant building to a climax and then abruptly stopping, the musical coitus interruptus. I am no longer living in the UK so I am unaware and surprised by what you say about Classic FM.

    Great performance but I think the strings need their own bow for all the beautiful work they do underpinning wind and brass solos with back ground harmonies in quadruplicate!!!

    It doesn't climb the spiritual and emotional heights of most of Bruckner's later works, but his First Symphony still packs quite a punch (it is after all his Third Symphony)! Maestro Jarvi and the FRSO do it full justice here, as it deserves.

    • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is not his third; it is his second. Only Symphony 00 was composed earlier. Symphony 0 (Die Nullte) was written three years later.

    • @Quotenwagnerianer
      @Quotenwagnerianer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And to add his 00 is just a study work where Bruckner had a very specific task. He had to conform to harmonic and structural standards to show that he internalized them. That's why he never considered counting it among his works. It was an exercise, nothing more, never meant to be performed as an indivudal statement of his artistic decisions.
      So in that sense this here really is his first symphony, because it is the first one were he wrote like he wanted to write and not like his teachers expected him to.

    It's a very ambitious composition for a "First" symphony. Rather different from Bruckners later style..

    • @zjschrage
      @zjschrage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in some sense, but in general I fell like this is really Brucknerian. There are those classic chromatic increases of a short motif to build tension, the classic groupings of 4, lots of brass. To me, all four movements feel like typical Bruckner introductions, adagios, scherzos and finales.
