A quick organizing tip for those who use the Ravelry stash feature. I also worry about my yarn getting separated from its labels. So now, when entering items into my stash, I make sure to include at least two photos: one each of the skein / ball and its label. I try to make sure that the photo of the label clearly shows the brand, the color name (or number), and any information about the dye lot. That way, if I come across a random label, it’s easy to figure out what the yarn looks like (or vice versa). This takes slightly more work in the short run, but has prevented headaches in the long run.
Can't you just input that information into your Ravelry stash when you make an entry for the yarn? It provides an option for listing dye lot and info on the yarn label. Maybe it's easier for you to take a picture?
@@Lisa_Flowers Sure! I do enter that information on Ravelry, but it still helps me to have a visual for two reasons. Your mileage may vary, of course. First, when trying to reunite a separated yarn and label, I'm more efficient when I know what the thing I'm searching for looks like. Second, having a photo means I have accurate information about a particular yarn even if I make a typo while entering color / dyelot numbers into Ravelry. (Which doesn't happen a lot, but still occurs every now and then.)
That yarn store party idea is amazing, you'd have the opportunity to bring yarn to people that didn't know about those small businesses or companies previously. Taking it a step further, you could throw a couple yarn store parties like bringing east coast dyers/yarn to a west coast party and vice versa.
I have to pace my views of your yarn store reveals or I'll have that many packages, too. And now I have a side trip in Georgia to plan for Labor Day week.
As soon as you said you spent a year literally shopping for yarn and exploring, you had me wanting to figure out how you could afford to do that. Also your partner must really love you to support you traveling with you like that!
When you asked if viewers had ever found some yarn grouped together, and wondered what the original purpose was, I had to laugh... yeah, that happened so often I had to do something about it. Now when I order yarn online, if there's a comment section on the order form, I'll put right in there what project I intend it for. There have been too many times I've gotten a package (even if it's only a few days later!) and just stared at it blankly because I don't remember what great inspiration had hit me at 2 a.m. when I ordered it. And now I go one step further: I put the yarn in a ziploc with a note with either the name of the pattern or even a printout, and they're stored on a shelf unit in my dining room. It's sort of a visual representation of my Ravelry queue, and it helps me keep on track by reminding me that I already have about 20 projects queued up with yarn on hand, and do I REALLY need more? (although sometimes the answer to that is still yes!)
When you get to VA these are amazing yarn stores! : -center of the yarniverse (Ashland, VA) -Knitting B (henrico, VA) -dances with wool (chesterfield, VA)
Looks like you are having a blast! I saw your video at the Mill, lol Wow thinking Fort Bragg, California there's a Pippi Long Sticking Yarn Store!! Very cute place, lol Stay Well and Safe.😂🎉
What an exciting adventure your on. I just found your channel and thought who wouldn’t love to experience this trip and a great way to see the U. S. Happy Yarning lol 🧶🧶🧶
I appreciate videos like this. I'm currently at a place where I have a lot of yarn that I had plans for but I've lost track of the plan and you are inspiring me to actually do something.
Hello! I just really want to recommend some yarn stores in South Dakota (I’m pretty sure you haven’t been there yet) Prairie Road Yarn in Sioux Falls, SD SlipKnits in Rapid City, SD Ewe Knit It in Yankton, SD I’m sure there are sooo many more just wanted to share some that I know of. Here is another one that is in Iowa that I really enjoyed. Growing Up Lulu Fiber Arts in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa I am so happy to watch your videos and you have truly been a wonderful inspirational and motivating person for me. Especially on the hard days and there have been so many in the last month after 2 family members passing. I truly am glad that I can pick up my phone and watch a video to bring a smile back to my face. Thankyou for just being you!!
Natalie. When you come to NE you have to go to Connecticut and The Mermaid Purl. It’s about ten minutes from another shop Skein but The Mrrmaid Purl is on the water in the village of Nirtjy Kingston and incredible.
This was so fun!! All of that yarn and notions are representative of all of your hard work, new people, and fun times you've had on your adventures and travels. I can't wait to go on the next half with you guys! Thanks for sharing along the way. ❤
So fun! Enjoyed getting to watch you unpack all those goodies. If you do decide to make kits out of it, they could make great auction items for Knit for Food or another nonprofit!
Hi Natalie, You almost need to include a little note to yourself as to the project you have in mind for a yarn grouping you're sending home. An index card mini inventory list of included yarns might help too. You could knit fingerless mitts to match back to your beanies. I was really into knitting fingerless mitts before I decided to master socks. I could make a complete pair of mitts with 1 - 50g skein so, I have a few single skeins that I'm using to learn to knit short versions of socks with. I can't wait to get to the point where I can finally look for some prettier sock yarns to knit up. Lol! ✌️💜🧶🧦
That was a fun video! It was nice seeing them again. It was such an unexpected pleasure meeting you in Wisconsin. It really made my day!! Safe travels!❤
Maybe you could have a special journal to record what you buy where and make notes about what you send back in your packages. It shouldn’t take up much room in the van. You may have already thought of that.
HIGHLY recommend a northeast coastal road trip in autumn! 🍂 my family did a coastal new england road trip from Virginia all the way up to Acadia National Park in Maine in October last year in a converted van, also drove through New Hampshire & Vermont. it was the most amazing experience!! the autumn leaves in the White Mountains were breathtaking views! 🤍
When you’re in Ohio check out the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton as well as the Aviation Trail. It would take you days and days to do it all but it really is impressive and fascinating.
Its funny how when you where in new york you where getting ride of your stash and know your getting more yarn so cool though . I think you should maybe make something for your mom and dad for thank you for having them store it at there house i think it would be cool . I was sondering where the uarn store was in fl if you could tell me becouse i live in Florida i live in bradeton fl
Hi Natalie. Great stash! Wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had all that yarn! (Of course I'd find something.😉) Also, I thought you bought yarn in Florida. Did you use it all? Glad you and Kent are enjoying yourselves while you're young. Stay safe and give Toaster a hug for me.
Natlue, for your peace of mind, I would take a Sharpie marker and go on all those plastic bags that you're tossing on the bed and write the states that they're from because, in 6 months to a year. You may forget where some of these yarns are from and I don't think you want to do that.
I suspect you have already left to go back out on the road, but I was thinking about your hexi blanket. You should see if you can create a digital diagram of it so that you can identify how many more hexagons you need to complete it. This will make it easier as you go to those last 24 states. It might help you choose to buy or pass on yarn, based on the remaining hexagons you still have to purchase yarn for.
You should definitely rent a space and charge admission for that build your own kit event! You could give any profits to charity if you wanted or keep it since it’s a lot of work but I would totally volunteer to wind off minis for people 🧶
When you come through Iowa we have a delightful yarn shop called A Tangle of Yarn you should try! Address: 1903 EP True Pkwy Suite 310, West Des Moines, IA 50265

Wow, I cannot imagine owning such an abundance of beautiful yarns to choose from. You are so fortunate!

I used a yarn a while ago and couldn't remember the name of it until you mentioned it. Ruby and Rose! thank you!!

north carolina is the “first in flight” state because of the wright brothers! the first airplane flight took place near kitty hawk, nc!
You beat me to it!
I've been truly inspired by the yarn stores you've visited so far in the US! Can't wait for the next 24.

80 g could make a pair of socks. That’s a fun gift for a sock knitter to receive.
For sure!!
Great stash to come home to when you're done traveling! And bag choices will be there ready for your use.
Love your Hexie blanket! ❤

Seattle Convention Center Fibre Festival this Weekend!!
North Carolina had the first men to fly a plane in 1903! Hence first in flight on their license plates!
Loved this so much!!! Thank you for sharing with us!!
NC is home of the first flight of the wright brothers
You could grab some post-it notes and stick one inside every yarn bag you ship home with info about the state and which shops/events you got them at
Wow, like a Knitty Natty advent! love that!!!
I think mystery boxes/bags are a great idea for leftover yarn.
Lol! Oh to be you right now! That looks like fiber junkie heaven!!!!❤ Too fun🎉
Fin video, it’s always fun to see how others organize. Hope you will be returning to DFW FiberFest this September!

Lucky you! I was hoping Lydia and the gang would come up to Door Co but no such luck. Maybe next time!
This is just like christmas!
Hahaha yes!!
You could write the 2 letter state abbreviation over each of the 6 cakes in the bag.

we also hit up the town in Connecticut that inspired Stars Hollow in Gilmore girls and that was sooo fun!
First in Flight is associated with NC because the Wright Brothers first flight took place at Kitty Hawk North Carolina on the outer banks.
Oh yes! But the color is called “First Light”?
The barbie yarn and the other yarn was for a project that you mentioned in a pervious vedio
I'm thinking it was mentioned in the yarn store videos
Does this mean we get more de-stashing videos?! That was super fun!
Oh gosh yes. I think all of 2025 will have a series as I use this up 😆😆
Yes please! Your stash videos are the best ones on TH-cam!
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
I think it would be super fun to find 2/3 yarns that work well together and squeeze out a tamk top or something, either fading or marling
I was thinking the same thing... what will you do with ALL that wonderful yarn!!
When you’re in Ohio check out the United States Air Force Museum in Dayton as well as the Aviation Trail. It would take you days and days to do it all but it really is impressive and fascinating.
Is there a pattern for that 50 state blanket in the shape of our United States that you could share?

christmas project bag from New Mexico? can you tell me where it is from...i just love it!

That’s super smart!! I did leave it behind, but I can at least figure out how many more skeins I’d need and keep a list!
What happened to your tesalated vest?
Did they give up their apartment in that highrise?
Yup! We were renting that apartment. Now we’re traveling in a van full time ☺️
