Thank you for doing these videos. I am not blind, but my PTSD has worsened to the point where I am psychologically disabled. I am coming to terms with being disabled and am slowly letting go of the life I had before. I am now bingeing on the TH-cam channels of those who are able to speak about their experiences intelligently. I will eventually use a service dog and will definitely stand out. There is no way my life will ever be the same. Leaning from you and those like you is worth so much to me. Again, thank you.
I went blind about two years ago and I'm wondering if you can remember what your family and friends look like? Do you remember what purple looks like? I'm hoping my memories don't fade too fast, I guess.
Blindsight 2020 She mentioned this in a previous video. Since she lost vision after 14 years of being sighted she knows what colors look like and still remembers them.
Twenty-Five Sailors I thought she only remembers two colors because she gets little fireworks in her vision in those colors, even before she lost most of her sight. But blind people forget colors eventually once they stop seeing them. Neuroplasticity
She said she remembers purple and green (I think) for example because those are two of the very few colors she can see, but I belive she said she doesn't know what red looks like. I think she also said she doesn't remember what her family looks like.
Hanna Vörös something I’m confused on & im not accusing or trying to be mean I actually really really enjoy her videos but she said she doesn’t remember what she looks like, or her family, or really people in general but then when describing celebs she described Taylor Swift almost to the T & said she knows that because she remembers see her in 2008 when she first started out singing & had the long blonde curly hair. She said she remembers what she looked like back then and still thinks of her that way now. How does she remember Taylor Swifts face and hair but not her own?
Jade Hansen I don't know either.. I think I remember her saying in a video that before she lost her vision, she was at an age when she didn't care about her appearance too much so she didn't look into the mirror too often. That could be the reason why she doesn't remember her own appearance, but then if she remembers a celebrity, she would probably remember her family as well.. I don't know. That's an interesting question
I love falling to sleep listening to an audio-book! Then backing up, the night, until I reach a place that I remember. So cool listening to part I remember then hearing something new, & knowing that's the point I nodded off.
Molly i have a question i’m not trying to be rude or hurt ur feelings but when u walk around like outside would u use a dog or a stick not trying to hurt ur feelings
I have a Braille note, I love it! Also I have said hi to people who weren't even talking to me so many times I don't even get embarrassed anymore, I just laugh it off hahaha! Love your videos so much X
My mom is considered legally blind without her glasses on. She told me she only has light perception left, but with her glasses she can do everything; reading, writing, walking, looking, noticing, anything. She normally needs larger print books, but it intrests me how her glasses (with a very high prescription) make her like any fully-sighted person, yet without them she's legally blind and only has light perception, same as you. It's really cool how everyone experiences out world in totally different ways from everyone else!
I have to say, your presence on TH-cam is so important, not only do you educate others but you empower them with you’re positivity and love of life. Thank you for being so brave xx
I don't have twitter so I'm going to ask a question here. What is your response or feelings to being told you're beautiful, or pretty? I assumed it may feel like less effective praise if you're blind because you're less vision centric. Maybe you'd prefer being told you have a lovely voice, your skin is so soft or you're so intelligent.
#asktheblindgirl , Have you ever had a negative experience with food service or a situation where you had to read a sign or menu? Are establishments always prepared to assist you with braille alternative menus or reading them to you?
Raven Mortensen I was a server at a chain restaurant in the early 2000s. We had a blind regular who said he would go to the same restaurants to avoid the annoyance of figuring out a new menu. We had a just out of training waiter who got him one day. He started reading the menu to the guy, barely pausing to breathe. He was probably 3 minutes in when the guy finally banged on the table to get him to stop already.
I used to work in a fast food stand and we didn't have braille menus, so when a blind person came up they often asked us for the most popular dishes. If they didn't like any of the popular dishes, they would ask for things like "do you have anything with chicken?" or "do you serve pancakes?". The order took longer of course, but that didn't bother me, and the people in line were often considerate as well.
Possibly what they meant, though not explained well, is that most places usually have a menu posted online if you go to their website, so she could always search for the menu and pull it up on her phone and have voiceover read it to her.
I relate to your welcoming questions. I was born with Larson Syndrome. It’s a rare genetic birth defect. I look different than everyone. I’ve dealt with staring all of my life. I tell people to ask me something if they want to know. I don’t mind answering questions. I usually get questioned by kids. Adults don’t usually ask things, they just accept it or don’t. I would much rather be asked questions all day than to be stared at for 5+ minutes. Love ya girl!!
Hi Molly, I just started watching your videos and they're great. I grew up with two blind parents so these videos are somewhat relateable. My mom loved to read Braille and even had a Braille typewriter as well, but on the other hand, my father loved audio books and he couldn't get enough of them. This video was awesome to watch, I loved it.
I know I am finding your videos very late, I absolutely learn something new. I’m partially sighted but in recent years I have had my vision reduced and struggled with it. You’re so positive about life, disability doesn’t hold you back from living your best life. Thanks for sharing your positivity with people because often I get scared and knowing things can be alright if I approach it with the right attitude is so comforting. Thanks for the video
i think if you are close to the blind person (perhaps couple of feet max) and you say "Hello, sir/miss, do you need some help?" I am pretty sure, that the odds of having somebody come up near a blind person and ask somebody else if they need help are slim, unless it is in a shop or something... But of course, i also think the hand on shoulder or arm or so is the most efficient.
I love how this was two years ago and your still the same Molly. You can definitely tell you have an amazing genuine personality. So glad to see fame hasn't changed you. You have a beautiful heart and you are so beautiful on the outside as well and you inspire me. Keep up the great work Molly! 🐝
Hey! I was just wondering.... Andrea Bocelli, through his foundation, is working with MIT to create a device that blind people can wear that will have sensors so it can guide blind people (through vibrations I think) around obstacles etc in a room or outside. It could also detect the faces of people you know and notify you who's walking toward you before they acknowledge you. I think this sounds super cool and was just wondering your thoughts? 😀
Amy Or Not Hi My name is Jacqueline and I am Visually Impaired and one day I know I could lose my vision but the device sounds wonderful. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 I have a long history of disabilities some are mental and some are physical. 🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤 🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤
#asktheblindgirl I know this might be a weird or rude question so feel very free to ignore this. I was wondering if you ever feel vulnerable as for me I feel that way anyway but can imagine being more fearful if I lost my sight. Have you ever taken something like self defence classes? Or does none of that sort of thing really bother you or even come into mind?
As a visually impaired person, I love your videos because you cover some of our common questions and issues. I'm a motivational speaker as well an want to do more with the VIP Community in my city. I keep hitting a wall because nothing is available. Any suggestions?
Hey molly! There's always the chance you might not read this, but I just think it's super awesome that you're so positive about everything. I just discovered your videos the other day and as a sighted person I never realized a lot of the things I've learned on your channel. Thanks for everything you do!
If you haven't read them yet, I would really recommend Diana Gabaldons Outlander series... there are 8 'great big books' - a bunch of novels and even a grafic novel... and she's writing book nine at the moment... They defy discription... there's different cultures, different times, different wars, there's a little timetravel, a lot of intrigue, a couple of great lovestorys and she has the BEST narrator - Davina Porter, unfortunately just for the big books... on Diana Gabaldons website there is an overview, where you can see the big outline, so if you want you can read them in order...but I would recommend to start with the great big books, and then, if you want to reread, then read them in order... you'll have material for a looooong time ;) - and the storytelling is spectacular ;)
I'm legally blind, and I typically will memorized someone's name by their voice. Most people think it is strange, so I think it is really cool that you discussed this!!
I’m legally blind, too, but I have contacts/ glasses. I can still see, I just have incredibly bad eyesight. Also, I’m almost 13, so my eye doctors are trying to find a way to prevent the rapid decrease of my eyesight.
my fav audio books from audible is the help by kathryn stockett the devine secrets of the ya ya sister hood is a good one maude by donna maybry foley is awesome too
Hey mollie, i often listen to audio books while i paint, and one which stood out for excellent voice acting was “Anansi Boys” from Neil Gaiman *it was on audible
#asktheblindgirl I worked in a nursing home where we were taught to place food in front of the blind residents by telling them where their food was on the plate as if the plate was a clock (your mashed potatos are at 3 o'clock). One of my regulars at the bar where I worked always asked where his food was so I started always letting him know without being asked. He once came in with a blind friend and when I did that for him she got very angry and lectured me about it. Our food was very hot or he would order things that came on different plates so I was simply letting him know that his Shepherd's pie was on the left to prevent burning. Any opinions? Was I that offensive do you think? I don't believe I had any kind of condescending voice, I stated it the same way I would say "your plate is warm" to any other customer.
Waitress here. Some customers will yell at you for really stupid things. I wouldn't take it so personally. You know the customer you were serving at that moment wanted you to do that for them - that should be all that matters.
Disabled person here this remind me of the idea that some disabled people don’t mind answering questions about their disability and others do. Unfortunately it’s a risk you take I think it’s better to be nice and risk getting lectured than to not do anything and risk seeming insensitive or rude and let someone embarrass themselves as a side effect of not knowing what’s around them. One thing that happens with disabilities is some people are just more at peace and accepting of their disability and others I’m assuming like the one who yelled at you, are angry about it, it could be pretty new for them and they haven’t really come to terms with the fact that they are not independent adults anymore. I was raised to be an independent woman but I’m severely disabled and require help even washing my hair, it’s awkward and embarrassing and sometimes I just want to figure things out myself, because I’m not ready to accept help just yet. I hope that helps. Good luck with everything
↑ ooo no. nope. as a disabled person + disability advocate, please don't do that. don't just take the risk when there's an easy way to avoid harm or when the risk isn't necessary to prevent harm all together. ask! 🤷🏾♀ just ask. LOL treat each disabled person as the individual they are, ask what they want; ask if they need help or if you can help. "is it cool if i tell you where everything is on your plate?" easy breasy. 💁🏾♀ just...a PSA for anyone seeing this years later.
You have the BEST facial expressions and emotional affect that I have ever seen, - do you remember facial expressions during your early childhood memories, before you lost your vision? I'm just curious and wondering, - I wish you a happy day! Thank you for your very wonderful inspirational and encouraging TH-cam channel! -- Love, Leaf
I love watching your videos Molly. I was watching anothrr video before this one and I was thinking to myself "I wonder how she dreams. I wonder if she drrams similar to Uncle Steve." My uncle became blind at 15yrs old, so I have only ever known him blind, but he has told me a lot about how it was before he became blind and also immediately after. From a very early age I was a sighted guide for my uncle and throughout my schooling years elementary through college I had my Uncle come speak to classes about being blind and to introduce them to braille. He has always amazed me as do you! Thank you for sharing your story and positivity!
Hi, I am blind and I would just like to say that you can say excuse me, but I think that you should Immediately ask if they needed help because Some body once dis that to me and I got a little scared about what they were going to do next.
She has a playlist of videos about her dogs if you check her channel! I believe there's a Q&A specifically about being a guide dog user where she answers a lot of questions, and another where she talks about her current dog and her previous dog (I think it was a tag)
Your so positive about this!!! This is awesome!!! You are always happy and so pretty!!! You always have a positive attitude and so kind I live your videos so much ❤️❤️
ratlover523 I am blind without my glasses, not darkness or anything but a can't make out any shape most colours or any face that is literally over 2 feet in fromt of me
Fair enough. I meant more along the lines of people like me(I get eyestrain headaches without corrective lenses) who can still see "okay" without glasses, but might make comments of that nature.
As a fellow leagly blind person and getting worse i can say we use those expressions to. What i hate is the misconception some people get when we say "ah i see that. or o ya i can see it now" The person automatically assumes we can clearly see sed object word excetra when in fact for most of us it's more like Ya i've made out enough of the rough elements in this scene to cognitively understand whats going on here based on verry few ques and a good amagenation. Example i can still make out /read/ text on my pc my form of blindness isnt helped by making things bigger (in fact it would make it harder) But to say i can read the text is misleading i see letters as wobly bobly wigly jumbles of lines that flicker and sparkle. So i pick out enough of the overall shape to say Oh that's a t and a h in the midle there. experince tells me this is probly the word "That" skip to the next word. and so on and so foth. I'm sure theres some mis spelled words in here but the post sounds corect even tho i know theres some underlined things i've now got a headach :p so posting as is.
I wish there was a surgery that Molly could do to get her vision back. I know it's almost as if she doesn't need it because she can take care of her own. However, it would be nice if such a sweet woman would get it back. She's so amazing and brave.
Kitten Bell Hi my name is Jacqueline and Braille is written with a Braille Writer. I am visually impaired that is something I know because I have met people who are blind
Thanks for these tips. I wouldn't know what to correctly do to help a blind person, or even referencing their/my name first - to have a chat! There was one time, I was at shoppers and a blind man came in with his dog, the one clerk called another , so they could walk around with him to collect the things he needed. The clerk that was called over, was very confused and had to be told "you have to help this man go around the store and grab the things he needs" It was So embarrassing, and i felt insanely bad for the blind man. We sightys have it good, and shouldn't be so disrespectful of people with disabilities. Because at any point, any "healthy" person can become ill, and need help in many ways. Always be there for others, and others will be there for you when you need it most.
So people who have sight (me included) can like feel someone staring at us and I was wondering if you, as a blind person, could feel someone staring at you? also I love your videos, you and your attitude towards everything! I hope the question didn’t offend you or anyone else:)
I hear you about Braille, and then there's the whole change from Literary Braille to UEB Braille thing. It's way fun (sarcastic) to have to re-learn Braille.
If you can handle emotional topics a great audio book is Room by Emma Donoghue. It was made into a movie a couple years ago. You will cry but it's very good!
Neil Gaiman has fantastic audiobooks - he narrates many of them himself and he has a fantastic reading voice. I highly recommend Stardust (fantasy), Neverwhere (fantasy) or Trigger Warning (short stories/ horror).
Hi Molly :) Love your channel. Audible has a sleep timer now so you can set a time for the book to stop playing in case you fall asleep so if you do it will only be 5-10 mins of searching not an hour! x
Playaways are awesome too. They are at most public libraries, if it's hard to continuously buy new Playaways. They are a small plastic , smaller than playing card size device that's loaded with only one audiobook. Only two or three buttons and you hook in your headphones.
Mainly depends on how sentive your fingertips are. Some to 3 cells ahead and behind some actuily have to kind of gently scratch across to make out some details. One of my old frinds used to use his lips. (that is rare tho)
The whole accidentally replying to someone who wasn't talking to you? I totally do that haha. And I'm sighted. Also books! I love books. I love listening to the How to Train Your Dragon books because David Tennant's voice is a dream (and so is the rest of him just quietly). They're so different to the movies but equally wonderful. Also since I know it's on Audible, Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is amazing - the audio drama? Ugh so good. Basically anything by Neil Gaiman I recommend. And he often reads his own books which is great, he has a very kind and soothing voice. It's like having a cool dad read to you.
I was totally going to say that about people nearby talking on phones! Now that everyone is using Bluetooth, it's so hard to tell if they are talking to you or on their phone! Someone told the funniest story one time about being in a bathroom stall next to someone they thought was talking to them, and it turned out they were on their phone. So embarrassing!! I also wanted to mention the Harry Potter books. There are two different narrators you can get for them, but I love Stephen Fry the best! Check them out if you haven't yet. (Well, if you like Harry Potter)
I did that last week. The charge nurse at work was saying hi and waving to the person behind me, but I thought he was referring to me so I waved back. He played along and told me later he was talking to the nurse behind me.
Hi Molly, recently found your channel and I love it! I was wondering if you had any opinions on blind representation in media? And if a character is blind but played by a sighted actor? For example, there's Daredevil played by Charlie Cox. I personally think it's great to have a character that's blind and able to save the day. It would have been nice if the actor for him was already blind, but I think at least you still have that bit of representation. Sorry if you've already gotten this question! Hope you have a great day!
I remember watching one of your first videos, three or so years ago. You were sitting in your front yard wearing a white floral dress I think, and I don’t remember the subject you were talking about but it’s so cool to see how you’ve changed over the years. Good luck to you Molly, -Sarah
I've been on a Molly binge for a few days and this has been one of the most interesting videos. Even though I've learned so much from her this particular video is so casually insightful. If you read this Molly, thanks for sharing your story!
omg can I just say that the grabbing / pushing at a crosswalk or around an object drives me nuts. I have glaucoma, cataracts, and retinopathy so i have a lot of blind spots. Even though I have most of my central vision I have enough blind spots to be considered legally blind. I have a friend that constantly grabs me when we are crossing streets. I usually hear the cars coming before he sees them and it scares the poo out of me when he grabs or pushes me. I know he's trying to be protective and helpful but it drives me nuts. I've asked him not to do that but he still does it. Honestly, I'd rather walk into something or risk getting hit by a car (I haven't been hit when I walk on my own yet) than have someone randomly grab me without warning. sorry, rant over.
You are Such a beautiful soul! I Love your videos and Love hearing your perception/life experiences, and I think it is wonderful that you share your originality with the world because you truly do answer alot of questions sighted people might not even think of! Keep doing what you do! Much Love!
Molly! You may not read this all the way in 2018, but try the Mistborn book series on Audible by Brandon Sanderson! Hope you read this! The narrator is amazing
I use bump dots on my keyboard for the important JAWS commands keys. I absolutely love them.. I wouldn’t be able to learn the many commands that the program uses without them.
ItzBaileyJr that doesn't make sense. she just could see the difference between the darker colors and lighter colors. But not the color actually. I hope u understand it xD
the way she describes it (or at least my interpretation pf her description) she would see the light coming from the lamp, she might be able to discern the shape of the lamp shade depending on how the light diffuses, and the darker colors, depending on the opacity, will either dim the light it covers or block it out entirely
some people feel it when they get their period, I don't really, and if I'm not on birth control my period comes randomly, I think for me it would be hard to cope with my period if I were blind. but I think molly has answered this question in another q&a and said that it was too personal or invading question.
I would recommend old radio dramas if you like them as they were designed for everyone to experience without the use of vision and have neat old sound effects and music. The comericials are fun to listen to for their historic value as well. Alot of these shows could be found at public libraries although I cannot personally confirm this for sure as I haven't been able to make myself go in a library for the last couple years. Sometimes NPR used to have the old radio shows like the phantom re air during non peak times.
Tim Zormier most likely for free, usually service animals are free to travel with proof of a certificate or something like that to show that the animal is actually a service animal.
Hi Molly! My name is Rachel. I just found your channel last week and I am now obsessed! you're beautiful inside and out. You're such an inspiration to me and many others and I'm so glad you're open to sharing your story. You are a great speaker and presenter and love the way you encourage and inspire and can bring out the positives in any situation. I am more involved with the Deaf community. Loved your collab with Rikki by the way. But you are really my first introduction to anything to do with blindness and I'm so intrigued. You just got a subscriber for life! I'm slowly making my way through all your videos. Haha! I also love how informative you are about blindness and being blind. because if its anything like the Deaf community all people really need is some information and you're set! Although I still have a lot of learning to do with Deafness. Anyways I'm such a big fan of you now and my favorite color is purple too!
"My light perception is diminishing so, that's too bad" I love her positive attitude
Well, if there is nothing she can do, I don't see why she should be stressing over it.
Charoula1608 yea but I know if I was losing every last bit of sight I had I would not be as positive as she is.
One or two years later, give or take, she has said still has light perception. So it must have stablized again.
how's that being positive? she's just telling the truth
She’s awesome!
The fact that braille can be printed on patterned paper is pretty neat!
Why wouldn’t it be able too?
Liz some people just didn't know. That's why Molly does what she does sometimes; it educates those of us who never knew
But the irony is that they can't see the pattern haha it's still cool though. I had never thought of it.
yeah, I was just about to say that!
It cannot. It's special paper.

stephrocksxoxo18 omg thank you so much! I was looking for this comment!

Molly: and it’s turns out they weren’t talking to me they were talking to someone on the phone
Me: I am sighted and I’ve done this 🤦♀️😂
nichole XOXO same though
Same here
Same
Yep same. Or if they're waving in your direction and you wave back but they're waving at the person behind you lol.

I really hope molly does not lose anymore vision. I will pray every night that does not happen.
Maureen O'Brien do you still pray
😢too late
I think Maureen is talking about her light perception
Maureen O'Brien you're so cute and kind xx
Rowan Shimmin what?
Her hair is gorgeous.
I love how educational and informative your videos are. Thank you for that :)

But of course, i also think the hand on shoulder or arm or so is the most efficient.
I admire you Molly! I just happened upon your channel 6 months ago. I think what you are doing is so educational and amazing; you’re an inspiration!
I love how this was two years ago and your still the same Molly. You can definitely tell you have an amazing genuine personality. So glad to see fame hasn't changed you. You have a beautiful heart and you are so beautiful on the outside as well and you inspire me. Keep up the great work Molly! 🐝
You are so inspirational! I actually want to be a teacher for blind kids! I love helping people. I love watching your videos!
Amy Or Not
Hi
My name is Jacqueline and I am Visually Impaired and one day I know I could lose my vision but the device sounds wonderful.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I have a long history of disabilities some are mental and some are physical.

Just recently found your channel and I'm binge watching your vids! Congrats on 1 mil girl
You are a beautiful person on the inside and the outside.
Ur positivity srsly just makes me happy and smile
#asktheblindgirl I know this might be a weird or rude question so feel very free to ignore this. I was wondering if you ever feel vulnerable as for me I feel that way anyway but can imagine being more fearful if I lost my sight. Have you ever taken something like self defence classes? Or does none of that sort of thing really bother you or even come into mind?
Charlie / this is a good question, I was wondering the same thing. But I bet her dog gives her a little comfort
Not being rude but after reading this she probably would
+Whitworth Fam: Especially since per this video, she has a Giant Dog. 😁
As a visually impaired person, I love your videos because you cover some of our common questions and issues. I'm a motivational speaker as well an want to do more with the VIP Community in my city. I keep hitting a wall because nothing is available. Any suggestions?
I'm binge watching you Molly having only recently discovering you and I hope that audible has stepped up their game!
Oh my gosh Molly I just want to give you a big hug. You are so inspiring and lovable.
7:00 so basically how I text people I haven't texted in a long time lol "Hey its Danielle, you know from science?" lol
10:52 you handle the situation of you being blind really well. I don’t know how you do it I am so proud of you keep up the good videos❤️💯

I'm a gigantic fan of all of Terry Pratchett's works on Audible, especially the books narrated by Stephen Briggs. I love his voice.
my fav audio books from audible is the help by kathryn stockett the devine secrets of the ya ya sister hood is a good one maude by donna maybry foley is awesome too
Hey mollie, i often listen to audio books while i paint, and one which stood out for excellent voice acting was “Anansi Boys” from Neil Gaiman *it was on audible
↑ ooo no. nope. as a disabled person + disability advocate, please don't do that. don't just take the risk when there's an easy way to avoid harm or when the risk isn't necessary to prevent harm all together.
ask! 🤷🏾♀
just ask. LOL treat each disabled person as the individual they are, ask what they want; ask if they need help or if you can help. "is it cool if i tell you where everything is on your plate?"
easy breasy. 💁🏾♀
just...a PSA for anyone seeing this years later.
I love you molly you are such an inspiration to me. I hope you come to England one day.
She is a fan of Harry Potter and so am I:) I know this because she said something about it in a top ten video
Serena Morrison Did someone say Harry Potter? Harry Potter is my life..
Would it be ok if I say 'excuse me' and then tap them?
PassionFire definitely! You want them to know someone is there, and you don’t want to frighten them. I mean, I’m not blind, but that’s what I think.
Remember to still say your name.
Yeah. I don’t know any blind people, but it’s the same for deaf people (except the excuse me).
PassionFire that’s a good question but I don’t think you can do that to a blind person
Hi, I am blind and I would just like to say that you can say excuse me, but I think that you should Immediately ask if they needed help because Some body once dis that to me and I got a little scared about what they were going to do next.
Your makeup always looks great, but it was especially on point this video!
I've noticed you say you walk with a guide dog often, can we meet the dog? or is it more than one dog? or how does that work?
She has a playlist of videos about her dogs if you check her channel! I believe there's a Q&A specifically about being a guide dog user where she answers a lot of questions, and another where she talks about her current dog and her previous dog (I think it was a tag)
thanks!
Patty Melt ii
Me asf 💀
Your so positive about this!!! This is awesome!!! You are always happy and so pretty!!! You always have a positive attitude and so kind I live your videos so much ❤️❤️
Does it ever bother you when people use terms like "Blind as a bat" or exaggerations like "I'm totally blind without my glasses"?
ratlover523 I am blind without my glasses, not darkness or anything but a can't make out any shape most colours or any face that is literally over 2 feet in fromt of me
Fair enough. I meant more along the lines of people like me(I get eyestrain headaches without corrective lenses) who can still see "okay" without glasses, but might make comments of that nature.
ratlover523 yes yes, I recall from when I could see okay.
I didn't ask if it was offensive, I asked if it bothered her. Something can bother you without outright offending you.
As a fellow leagly blind person and getting worse i can say we use those expressions to.
What i hate is the misconception some people get when we say "ah i see that. or o ya i can see it now"
The person automatically assumes we can clearly see sed object word excetra when in fact for most of us it's more like
Ya i've made out enough of the rough elements in this scene to cognitively understand whats going on here based on verry few ques and a good amagenation.
Example i can still make out /read/ text on my pc my form of blindness isnt helped by making things bigger (in fact it would make it harder) But to say i can read the text is misleading
i see letters as wobly bobly wigly jumbles of lines that flicker and sparkle.
"Give Them an other reason to stare at me, I dont care" 😍😍😍 U go Girl! Love your personality Soo much!!
I wish there was a surgery that Molly could do to get her vision back. I know it's almost as if she doesn't need it because she can take care of her own. However, it would be nice if such a sweet woman would get it back. She's so amazing and brave.
El LaPoint she never said that, she just meant she doesn’t deserve to be blind when she’s such a nice person
Nacol Sims i totally agree
Nacol Sims that would be pretty cool but in her qNa she said she didn’t want to be cured
There is, I forgot what it was called though...
She never had it. She was always legally blind
Awe your so positive and have such a good outlook on the way ppl are towards you. Xx
How do you write Braille? Isn't it bumps? Do you use something like a fabric pen? (puff pens, they use something that makes it 3D..)
Kitten Bell
Hi my name is Jacqueline and Braille is written with a Braille Writer. I am visually impaired that is something I know because I have met people who are blind
Kitten Bell I they are bumps idk
They push into the paper
You use a sort of typewriter machine which punches into the paper.
Thanks for these tips. I wouldn't know what to correctly do to help a blind person, or even referencing their/my name first - to have a chat!
There was one time, I was at shoppers and a blind man came in with his dog, the one clerk called another , so they could walk around with him to collect the things he needed. The clerk that was called over, was very confused and had to be told "you have to help this man go around the store and grab the things he needs"
It was So embarrassing, and i felt insanely bad for the blind man.
Thank you so much, Molly! You are a wonderful teacher!
I hear you about Braille, and then there's the whole change from Literary Braille to UEB Braille thing. It's way fun (sarcastic) to have to re-learn Braille.
th-cam.com/video/ZOX2eg1nfAs/w-d-xo.html
If you can handle emotional topics a great audio book is Room by Emma Donoghue. It was made into a movie a couple years ago. You will cry but it's very good!
Neil Gaiman has fantastic audiobooks - he narrates many of them himself and he has a fantastic reading voice. I highly recommend Stardust (fantasy), Neverwhere (fantasy) or Trigger Warning (short stories/ horror).
I like The Graveyard
Hi Molly :) Love your channel. Audible has a sleep timer now so you can set a time for the book to stop playing in case you fall asleep so if you do it will only be 5-10 mins of searching not an hour! x
youre awesome molly!
Playaways are awesome too. They are at most public libraries, if it's hard to continuously buy new Playaways. They are a small plastic , smaller than playing card size device that's loaded with only one audiobook. Only two or three buttons and you hook in your headphones.
Can you read brail with all fingers or do you only use the index finger? I've tried feeling the dots but it's really hard, im impressed :P
Pintel Think everyone is different
So you mean everyone has their own technique?
Mainly depends on how sentive your fingertips are.
Some to 3 cells ahead and behind some actuily have to kind of gently scratch across to make out some details.
One of my old frinds used to use his lips. (that is rare tho)
Molly l just watched 7 hr of ya videos you are ing AMAZING !!! 🐶
Totally a year late but David Tennant voiced a character in that movie?? :') wow a thousand years behind here wow I'm
molly's so sassy and positive - I love her ❤❤ stay amazing Molly😙
Hi Molly, recently found your channel and I love it! I was wondering if you had any opinions on blind representation in media? And if a character is blind but played by a sighted actor? For example, there's Daredevil played by Charlie Cox. I personally think it's great to have a character that's blind and able to save the day. It would have been nice if the actor for him was already blind, but I think at least you still have that bit of representation. Sorry if you've already gotten this question! Hope you have a great day!
Tink This is an interesting question! I'd also like to hear Molly's thoughts on it.
Tink great idea but if it’s a super action packed film it might be tough to be mobile easily but who knows it could happen
Molly u are the most awesome person like ever!
I hate when people "force help".
like no, if I say I'm okay, but thanks, but you do something anyway, that is not okay.
I absolutely loved falling asleep listening to an audio book and figuring out the point I nodded off.
you might be different but we all are and I personally think you are awesome.. Love your vids
I loved the audio book for The Girl on the Train!
I just subscribed and I like your videos! My favorite color is purple too. Thank you for educating and informing me how to approach a blind person.
You are so awesome. Just love you to pieces 💜 purple heart emoji!
I had no idea you hosted a TV show, that's so awesome.
WHAT SHOW OMG!?!?!?!
I remember watching one of your first videos, three or so years ago. You were sitting in your front yard wearing a white floral dress I think, and I don’t remember the subject you were talking about but it’s so cool to see how you’ve changed over the years. Good luck to you Molly,
-Sarah
one of my older computers' keyboard had braille on them, I was so confused what they were for as a kid lol
I've been on a Molly binge for a few days and this has been one of the most interesting videos. Even though I've learned so much from her this particular video is so casually insightful. If you read this Molly, thanks for sharing your story!
so you cannot see color at all? Like, If you were looking through a stained glass window would you be able to see the colors or just the light?
just the light
I love the book called “out of my mind” it’s so good and I think you would really really enjoy it. it’s one of my favorites!
Id love to know how you pick/decorate your home and wardrobe?
Hey Molly, could you do a video on your tattoos? Like what they are? If they having any meaning? Love your videos! Xx
omg can I just say that the grabbing / pushing at a crosswalk or around an object drives me nuts. Honestly, I'd rather walk into something or risk getting hit by a car (I haven't been hit when I walk on my own yet) than have someone randomly grab me without warning. sorry, rant over.
th-cam.com/video/ZOX2eg1nfAs/w-d-xo.html
I loved Outlander on Audible. The voices were pretty great!
You should listen to The Land Of Stories
This is answering a lot of my questions because I a blind friend so this is helpful. 😊 thanks Molly!!!!!😊
When she says the last thing she remembers seeing: 9:12
You are Such a beautiful soul! I Love your videos and Love hearing your perception/life experiences, and I think it is wonderful that you share your originality with the world because you truly do answer alot of questions sighted people might not even think of! Keep doing what you do! Much Love!
We were liars. It's a great book!
I love the Ready Player One audiobook!
I'm not blind. I'm visually impaired but some of these things I can definitely relate to. By the way i think you're AWESOME!
Molly! You may not read this all the way in 2018, but try the Mistborn book series on Audible by Brandon Sanderson! Hope you read this! The narrator is amazing
Every sighted person has done that too. A few times.
I use bump dots on my keyboard for the important JAWS commands keys. I absolutely love them.. I wouldn’t be able to learn the many commands that the program uses without them.
If there were to be a colorful light lamp, could you see it?
ItzBaileyJr that doesn't make sense. she just could see the difference between the darker colors and lighter colors. But not the color actually. I hope u understand it xD
the way she describes it (or at least my interpretation pf her description) she would see the light coming from the lamp, she might be able to discern the shape of the lamp shade depending on how the light diffuses, and the darker colors, depending on the opacity, will either dim the light it covers or block it out entirely
I just want to give you a hug and have a nice conversation with you .you are such a great person molly ❤️
how do you cope with your period
thats actually a really good question
EMILIE that’s a super good question I’m surprised no one else asked that
some people feel it when they get their period, I don't really, and if I'm not on birth control my period comes randomly, I think for me it would be hard to cope with my period if I were blind. but I think molly has answered this question in another q&a and said that it was too personal or invading question.
@@russshh Well maybe she just remembers when she gets it. Maybe she have one of those apps that remind you, so it's easier
She knows when it’s coming (cramps duh)
I would recommend old radio dramas if you like them as they were designed for everyone to experience without the use of vision and have neat old sound effects and music. The comericials are fun to listen to for their historic value as well. Alot of these shows could be found at public libraries although I cannot personally confirm this for sure as I haven't been able to make myself go in a library for the last couple years. Sometimes NPR used to have the old radio shows like the phantom re air during non peak times.
#askmolly #asktheblindgirl when you fly with gallop do you have to buy him a separate ticket or does he get to fly for free because he's a guide dog?
