That drop was sic to the 10th power! The spinkter was in full effect that day. I thought Kai and Nathan's double barrel at Jaws last week would get a mention just because of how big and how unique it was to get two in on one massive face like that. These guys are living the best life! 🏄🏼♂️🤙🌴
So Fantastic. I watch a while, with my own serene 'Reiki' music, and I'm totally awed, inspired by nature, these humans, life's explosive possibilities -- bravo to waves, riders, photographers, TH-cam, and whomever shared this!! I would like to congratulate all the surfers, the camera guys, and the soundtrack guys for the music, which really captures the majesty and limitless power of those waves..!!! I grew up with rockn roll but doesn't cut it for this.
This generation of surfers sets the new bar! These guys do things that I could only imagine doing back in the 70’s, and it’s just really cool to watch now! Thank you gentlemen, I salute you all!!! You are the modern day Gladiators!
Greatest achievements of human kind: -sliced bread- ❌ -the wheel- ❌ -landing on the moon- ❌ *Kai Lenny riding the lip, air dropping back in, sticking the landing and simply riding one of these bad boy behemoth monsters* ✅✅✅
The surfers deserve huge credit for attempting unassisted lauches into waves with boards that are to large to control on such huge waves. The biggest part of the ride often unseen.
That right by Kai Lenny was awesome !!! I thought for a second I was seeing things , after all its 5:00am and I've been up all night. But he really did drop that far.
I think they are all winners in my book. If you have never dropped anything close to a monster like any of the waves shown you should not even comment. Those guys have balls of steel.
You're absolutely right, Timmy. We do own Music for Airports, even though our favorite Brian Eno record is "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks." 😉 We love ambient music and it really fits well in big wave surfing.
So many different kinds of waves, so many different camera angles. Sure, Kai Lenny for spectacular riding, but that wave at Cloudbreak 3:26 was amazing and he pulled it off perfectly.
@@Jamesfoleyjr I know. It reminds me of Waimea, winter of '67. Me and Greg (Noll) & Gerry were only guys out. Paddled into this ignoramus wave, made the bottom-turn and LAUNCHED. Funny, they never mentioned that in interviews. Some people....
The shortest of rides ad the biggest rush . Your life is literally on the line/ I have watched surfers at Mavericks surf 40+ foot waves and I loved it.
It is so beautiful. I know that everything in the wave happens at a million miles an hour. I just hope for these great athletes that it slows down for them enough so they can enjoy the beauty and solitude inside that wave. With such a miniscule percentage of the people on this planet that can accomplish this amazing feat, I imagine every wave is as wonderful as the last. Cheers!
Makua Rothman knows how to wipe out in style. Not just caught up in the white water, he managed to pipeline the wipeout. If he survived I wonder if he could manage to do it again just for the camera angles.
If Grant Baker makes it out of that barrel it is the best wave I have ever seen hands down. Nevertheless crazy wave, Can't imagine what it would be like paddling for that and having to get timing and placement, just so crazy to witness.
@@Frankbug One of the entries shows a person going left at Sunset Beach. If you've ever surfed there you know that's toward the point, extremely shallow and lots of reef. Usually leads to much blood in the water!
Have to agree with a lot of others. Kai rides the wave, others look like their being ridden by it and hanging on for dear life. Best wipeout Cloudbreak far and away.
One more thing.....when surf(in general) gets over 35ft- paddling with guns is analogous to bodyboarding(enter drag coeefficient) vs surfing...the giant stuff can be ripped to maximum potential...vs. 70% either getting closed out on or eating it on tha drop...disclaimer:(no disrespect to those doin it..but.....Adapting to the wave is 🔑

Wipeouts aside,......The unbelievable exhibition of nature and surfing coupled with the choice or music,.......just beautiful. Thanks.
Kai Lenny on the air drop and mega kudos for the music selection. Beautiful.

Kai Lenny...That drop was epic!!
Next level putting classical music to big wave surfing
Whoever chose that music deserves a fucking award. Totally works.
I love this music with the big waves, your so right it's next level, thank you so much for your insight
I was thinkin slayer but....
Agreed.
Music fit for a funeral home...... wrong choice

Kai Lenny for sure!....what a ride......! That drop!!! Oh yeah!
Just unbelievable and beautiful

I don’t know much about surfing, but the guy called Kai Lenny rides like he’s in charge.
He's a legend. To know more about him, check out this article: www.surfertoday.com/surfing/kai-lenny-interesting-facts-about-the-hawaiian-waterman
2:41 The evolution of surfing, and man, takes another step.
Fantastic video! Kai is the purest surfer on earth. Paddle or Tow he charges like no other. The heart of Laird with the swagger of Kelly.
No contest for Ride of the Year, Kai Lenny.

Posters of surfing videos take note- best music video. Beautiful surfing. Bless the ocean snd its riders.
Amazing. For me it's the paddlers who are showing the most ability and bravery. By far.

We agree Robert. We don't have the slightest idea of how difficult and scary these waves are from their perspective. 👍🏻
That beautiful song is Kevin MacLeod, Drone in D. Album: Tranquillity 5, from 2014. A really brilliant combo of waves, surf and piano!
Great surfing. The music superficially reminds me of Brian Eno’s Ambient 1, Music For Airports. Excellent video.
You're absolutely right, Timmy. We do own Music for Airports, even though our favorite Brian Eno record is "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks." 😉 We love ambient music and it really fits well in big wave surfing.
You hacked, my TV tubes-- damn terrorists!
Not one, hawaiian word-- or culture, shown -- by this, damn fool.

When I get to heaven, I'ma ride that wave Kai Lenny rode like a beast!
That was amazing!
Came across this by mistake, wow, what a watch, so intensely satisfying!! These guys have seeeerious game!
kai lenny by far, nobody else can air drop 15 feet and ride out
Kai Lenny 1st and Grant Baker 2nd. That frontside by Kai on wave that big was gnarly. That drop in, barrel and wipeout by Grant were all world class.
2:40 Kai Lenny, airborne off the lip---SICK
That's got to be the best I've ever seen a person ride a wave in my life absolutely amazing

Kai Lenny. NO contest. The fact he went off the top, free fell and surfed it like a small wave - amazing!
He's an amazing athlete, John. And he will keep surprising us. ;)
dislikers don't wanna understand the nature's generosity
amazing cinematography and SURFING ! the soft music and slow motion is sedating however

yes, I could body surf little waves and get washed ashore and scraped over the sand, but this...
Kai Lenny at Jaws literally looks like he's going 100 mph. Insane
Nice vid. Thanks for posting, SurferToday. Some great rides here. But Kai Lenny's fearlessness and athleticism are amazing.

Big applause to all chargers!
There is something oddly so beautiful about this and I don't know why.
big respect for those who paddle in ! the spirit of surfing

Ramon Navarro got hosed!! His ride at Cloudbreak was the winner to me.
Should there be a category for paddle only?
There's a "Biggest Paddle Award" and then "Ride of the Year" and "Biggest Wave."
@Abu Dabu It's a valid argument. But it's the WSL who decides - not us. 😉
You know a wave is big when you can surf the back of it

Grant Baker in the beginning ride. Paddle in, got deep, and came so close to making it out as a body surfer.

I give Kai Lenny surfer of the year.
Kai Lenny no contest that was impressive. A tube most people can do it but what he did in that wave a very few would try it and succeed.
Surfing Nazare and not crashing should be the winner.
I think they should change the name to 'Big Balls Award'
Pedro Calado made the most impressive drop! (I'm at mn 16, need to see them all, all of them are impressive!)

Años luz de los demas surfistas en olas gigantes.
