- This video is a "subtle reminder" for the following karateka from Deutschland, Stephan (4th Dan), Peer (4th Dan), Axel (4th Dan) and Andy (3rd Dan): all of whom came here to Oita as IKS RENSHUSEI on March 4th, 5th and 6th of 2024.
This video is to remind them of some of the key points linking KIHON, KATA and KUMITE to achieve the TRADITIONAL WAZA/OYO.
During the training, the basis of Kihon and Kumite training were primarily (by request) Hangetsu, Jion and Kakuyoku Nidan.
As always impact training and oyo (practical application) were of prime focus. IKS is first and fore-most BUDO/BUJUTSU KARATE.

This is excellent! I appreciate your amazing work and I also practice Shotokan Karate aside with my Aikido teaching. So the methods you have put in place are really outstanding, great power from hips and using the body mass to create natural power with Atemi. It helps my Aikido study in that respect too. Thank you
Greetings and thanks.
Love Andre Sensei’s Karate!
so much energy in the movements... love it
Thank you very much! Positive energy from Japan.
You are a good teacher as your Sensei Asai. I think that in karate no one is better than Asai. You have lucky to be trained by master Asai Tetsuhiko. I great you from Burundi and I like your skills
Just like when I do judo: power from the hips
I genuinely love how much information about movement can be communicated across languages by using onomatopoeia
aha
Sensei Bertel è un sensei eccezionale, come pochi altri. Osu!
Osu, thank you very much and greetings from Japan.
Thank you
Inspiring. Very powerful.
nice. Dankeschön

Toujours aussi fort !
Bravo.
Thank you very much! I am continuing to train daily and trying to perfect and share what has been passed down to me. OSU
Next year I will begin more openly teaching the 極意型.
Mr Andre who was the greatest karatéka between Asai Tetsuhiko and Kanazawa Hirokazu?
Très visuel
Oss io sono ancora distrutto dall' allenamento di ieri🥵👀
Perfect movements
ありがとうございます!! Thank you very much.
Step by step!!!!!!!
@@andrebertel I really enjoy watching your perfect movements. I started training karate in 1977 and I have not seen anyone like you in so many years of training, Respect ...
Está kata é invenção do próprio Sensei... Pois desconheço este tipo de kara. Mas está muito bom...OSS!
Osu Thank you for your message.
The kata in this video were Jion and the second was Kakuyoku (Nidan) from Asai Tetsuhiko Sensei.
In addition to the 26 standard Shotokan kata we (the IKS) practice the extensions of JKA-style Shotokan passed down from Asai Sensei.
Kindest regards from Oita City, Japan.

My Master Kanazawa All Ways Used To Say
Leave Them With The Power 🙏
I was very fortunate to get to train with your teacher and even get some personal adjustments on my Enpi Kata.
Of course, the SKIF way of doing kata is different from my background through Asai Sensei, Osaka Sensei et al. But, it was great to learn the variations!
In addition to his karate prowess my impression was that he was a very kind man.
May he rest in peace.
Osu
@@andrebertel KASE-KANAZAWA-ASAI.
Kanazawa was a good teacher but Asai was the best
Dear Sir, where have You been in Germany? Or, much more important (!), when will You come to Germany again...;-)-...?.¿? OSS

I see you open your hip too much while doing Gedan-Barai. Probably influenced by Yahara-Sensei?
I don't agree with his approach, as the hikité is supposed to symbolise you pulling the hand of the opponent (as explained by GM Funakoshi himself in his first book - Rentan Goshin). Opening the hip too much means your hikité does not have sense anymore.
I think the ideal hip angle should be 30° max.
Also the elbow of the hikité side should never be "hidden". It should be in the prolongation line of the opponent's arm.
@@sassuki my teacher Asai Sensei stressed “case by case”. I believe this approach is more realistic.
Being technically fixated on one method is a weakness of karate in real fighting.
押忍 and thanks for the comment.
Andre
@@andrebertel I also believe in the "case by case", but in Kata, it is more like a 80/20 imho: usually it is for "this", and in some cases you can use it for "that".
Now, I highly doubt that opening the hip that much is the "usual" application scenario here, as this is some new paradigm, which I only saw by Yahara-Sensei so far, and now on your channel.
Yahara-Sensei explained that this is to give more power to the following technique, but that is from a pure Kumité perspective (and even then I highly doubt it is applicable, as everything goes pretty fast in kumité, and you have no time to wind up that much, the counter will come too late).
Now, as kata is primarily about self-defense, where you are pretty close to the opponent, I have difficulties imagining a context where opening the hip that much (and hiding the hikité arm) makes any practical sense.
@@sassuki good points. I personally do not practice ‘Yahara Sensei’s karate’ nor have spent enough time with him to legitimately comment; however, I think-based on my limited knowledge of karate, in general-that training to extremes in kihon and kata often allows natural actions to be much easier.
This runs parallel with our extended stances in Shotokan-ryu.
Just my thoughts.
All the best from Japan.
Andre Bertel
