Just saw this on AKS today. When can we expect this product to ship? I'm little reluctant to preorder anything from AKS as their estimates are often off by months.
Just used the tool today on a newer smart key and unfortunately, it looks like they've redesigned the lock. I just picked up this tool a couple months ago and now it is useless on newer smartkeys.
@@AquaTech225 Curious as to where these blades are so I can start watching prices. Just ordered this afternoon and it already shipped. Will have on Monday it looks like. Yes!! Wish I had it tonight with new years as gonna be busy I imagine.
Any plans to expand this to other key brands or is it a patent thing or something else? If you can read the digital one would think why cant it read other kwikset locks, brands, etc? I'm new to this game so getting my feet wet in alot of areas plus do Advanced automotive & scope diagnostics, reprogramming, repair, etc
Only works on Kwikset Smart Key locks...or re-settable locks...which I think Kwikset owns the rights to since Schlage had a version and Kwikset sued them for their idea. No way for this to work on pin tumbler locks since they're totally different. They are garbage but not as bad as the Schlage version which fail a lot. Still see a lot of these on the road in my area. I've been a locksmith for 25 years and this whole notion of customers rekeying their own locks is a joke since they can't even tie their shoes.
Unfortunately I was worried about that before buying myself. But if it’s not. I’m sure it can be done one way or another. I’m sure they made it purposely that it’s not replaceable. But one way or another the device was put together. That being said. I’m sure it can come apart. Even if they have it “sealed”. I’m sure with a dremmel tool if needed be I could open it without destroying it. Ofcourse theirs a chance. But get it open read the markings on the battery and order a new one to either Solder in or whatever he case. And have a plastic welder and can close it back up one way or another. It’s an amazing tool. But at that price point. The battery should of been removable. And should of been able to run a rechargeable battery or disposable AA batteries or something
Not as good as I thought it would be . If you don't have wifi it won't work and if the original key that was used is miss cut and you try to read it and it shows it say a 5 it could be a 6 . I have had that problem twice now. One of them read as a 2 but it wasn't exactly like the picture on 2 or 3 and it was a 3 but it had a little bit of a window like a 2 but had to cut it as a 3 to work and 1 that read a 5 but it was a 6 so there's a flaw in it. Either the tool or the wafers in the smart key lock
Gary, I would welcome screenshot images of the particular wafers you are speaking of which is very simple to do, just like taking a picture, then we could properly address your concerns. If you would like to do this, email them to info@locktech.biz. A little bit of facts concerning your miscut key idea, the kwikset smartkey wafers only have 6 grooves in them, 1 for each depth, the lock itself cannot be keyed to a miscut key since there are only 6 possible position. For example if the lock was keyed up to a miscut #4 key, the lock itself would still only fall into the #4 position. I'm not sure where the comment about "Needing WIFI" comes from, the tool generates its own WIFI "hotspot" type connection, so no you do not need a external WIFI source as your comment suggests. You do need to have WIFI capabilities on your phone which most all smart phones have.
You can't use it if you're in a area where your cellphone has no service or wifi at the place you are at. In my area that's often the case no cell service and I use Verizon but it gets lousy cell service
This is incorrect. It most likely connects directly to your phone like common wifi endoscopes. With those you just turn on the device and then connect to the wifi network the device broadcasts. Unlike all the smart-home crap that work with Alexa or Nest, it does not need internet connectivity and need to connect to the corporate server just to turn on a goddamn light 5 feet away.
The problem I see is with this tool is it relies on your phone to see the image. It has no built in screen or scope. It will become obsolete if it relies on software to connect to your phone. No support later on when it doesn’t connect with a new phone you bought 3 or 5 years later on in the future. It would have been much better to have had a built in screen so it’s fully independent. I guess a solution would be to use a separate dedicated phone that you would make sure to keep charged. One that you would keep with this tool always and a phone of course you would never do software updates on. Built in battery and the charging connector is of concern to me as well. Regular batteries would have been better as long as the battery case and contacts are of good design and are durable. Just want it to last because tools like these are meant to last for years like these crazy kwikset locks. I’m still getting one though and I think it’s way better than the other one where you look into. I mean looking at this demo and the clear results you get you can see it’s way superior. And the spacers are genius too.
You have to learn how do presentation skills. My god, I almost had a headache watching you flip the tool around and around and around. I don't see how this is faster or cheaper than a Lishi unless its UNIVERSAL across other brands of locks. It looks like a cheap 3D printed tool that you can connect to an android microscope.
I think this tool should be restricted to licensed locksmiths only. Not even law enforcement because they typically don't cut keys. This tool is way to easy to use and therefore should never end up in the wrong hands!
Just purchased the decoder and already made my money back. Well worth the money!
How did you used this tool if the customer doesnt have internet/wi-fi?
The customer doesn’t need wifi.
Looks like an awesome item can’t wait to have one one of these days
Any SC1 Keyway blade changeout coming? For kwikset’s new drop of the SC1 smartkey keyways?
Just ordered your Honda reset tool , you guys make the best tools period !!!!
Looks like a great product. Thanks for the demo.

Does it come with extra key blades? If not, how much are replacements?
$55 I seen one an another for $110 or something like that. Not sure what was different between the two. But their are blades

Can this be used on a lock with 7 pins?
Are parts replaceable as they wear out? Ie: leds ,battery etc.

It would be helpful if there were 4 lines on the side of the blade for spacing by eye.
Is the battery user replaceable? Lithium Ion batteries have a pretty short 2-3 year lifetime. Then you got a paper weight.

Let me know when it can do other keyways.
How much and when we they be available?
Come fare per acquistare

Good Question, if customer has no wi-fi then how can you use this tool on your phone?
I need this! I have the original Smartkey Decoder and I just can't see the wafers due to bad eyes. This is a game changer.
Hey Kirk- Dumb question from a newbee Locksmith here? Will this device work in automotive? Example and all keys lost situation? Thanks!
@@geraldskinner63 No. This is only for use on Kwikset Smart key locks. KW1 keyway.
@@geraldskinner63 What you need to look into is the Lishi automotive picks for all keys lost situations.

Great device i just receive and make a key in a minute, very easy
No one has it in stock.

Agreed, hold things still. And use a camera that has image stabilization.
