      Hi Laura,
      I've noticed your continued practise with this set. Thank you for sharing!
      I've not been able to reply before as I seem to be locked out of my account since moving to Portugal.
      I'd be interested to hear more about your practise as I'm building a new website with more exercises linked to this sequence. Not sure how we can connect yet though.
      Keep well and best wishes,
      Joel

    Best Makko-Ho transitions I've seen. And thank you for the blackbird.

    I've been practicing these stretches almost daily since I first learned of them at Ohashiatsu in Evanston under Matthew Sweigart's guidance. This rendition is by far the best I've seen and it will forever change how I do these stretches in the future. Thank you Joel!

    I should do this every morning! I need to lay off the coffee and do what’s better for my body. Really love your content.

    My new 10 minute morning stretch sequence. Thanks! Although I breathe in and out my nose, not out the mouth.

    • @joelreeves7599
      @joelreeves7599  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Margaret, thanks for commenting. The purpose of breathing out through the mouth is to release tension in the jaw an base of the skull and help release endorphins into the blood. (Plus inhaling through the nose filters particles and exhaling from the mouth keeps the throat moist and healthy)
      Most people approaching any type of yoga from the outset would be better off using this breathing method for the first period (3-9months of consistent practice) as it is enables a more nourishing release of locked in tensions. Later, it is feasible to get the same effects through breathing just through the nose but the technique is developed.
      In any case, synchronising breath and movement is key.
      Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Awesome Joel, I practice Japanese Martial Arts and this is exactly the type of stretching I saw in Japan done by the older instructors. Do you know where I could take some of these teachings online? would love to join a group that does this regularly.

    Are there easier modifications for beginners? I truly want to do this but would half stretching be beneficial? Thnx fr the video....I'm forever hopeful

      Yes, there are. Grab a copy of Masunaga Shizuto's book and you'll find a lot more 🙏🏼. This video is a great presentation of the kihon, though 🙇🏻‍♂️.

    Is there any particular reason to do this sequence in that specific order? (inverse of the order of the elements in Chinese medicine as far as I understand).
    Beautiful sequence and thanks for the kiss and progressions.

    • @londonschoolofkarate570
      @londonschoolofkarate570 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, No, there is no particular reason it was just the way I flowed into it. I don't concern myself with the elements too much for practices like this. 5-element Theory is a simplified way of road-mapping somewhat complex concepts and interactions, but I find it best to throw the theory books away once you understand them.

      Hello, sorry for the late reply. I don't have it on paper yet but it will be soon, along with additional stretches and sequences.

    Joel, any reason why you do KI/BL last and not 3rd?

    • @londonschoolofkarate570
      @londonschoolofkarate570 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no reason other than feeling the moment. Usually from this sequence I flow directly into back rolling exercises and then seiri-undo, re-alignment, stretches.

  • @CraigHocker
    @CraigHocker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This isn't Makko-ho. And the bit of it that begins in the stretch positions is done incorrectly.
