The real truth is that there isn't and never really was a timeline. They were just making games. The timeline was only created because of the fans who wanted it.

That's because Zelda games are always made with gameplay in mind.
The story is one of the LAST things they do with Zelda development.

@David Barrios - They only tried to tie it together, cause fans were desperate for there to be a timeline though. It wasn't a deliberate plan that was discovered.

-Zelda 2 was meant as a sequel to Zelda 1
-ALTTP was literally marketed as a prequel of Zelda 1.
-the Japanese site of LA dating from it's release year list it as the sequel of ALTTP featuring the same Link.
-OoT is the backstory of the series described in ALttP but features some inconsistencies that would later be explained as the downfall timeline. Also it's end literally leads to two futures and that's proven in game.
-MM happens just after OoT when Link goes back in time. This puts it in a Timeline where Ganon never gets the Triforce and thus is at odd with the old games which can't happen here.
-An interview by Aonuma dating from 2002 actually confirms that WW happens long after OoT in the adult timeline. Aonuma even mentions the fact that there is at least two timelines in the interview.
-FS is stated to be the oldest game when it released.
-MC is a prequel to FS.
-TP was stated to be in the Child timeline around its time of release by Aonuma who explains in more details the split and how MM and TP are separated from WW.
-PH is a direct sequel of WW.
-ST is a direct sequel of PH.
-SS was presented as the first game in the current timeline when it released.
-ALBW is the first post public timeline game and was given a placement on release after the Oracles.
-TFH is a direct sequel of ALBW.
-BotW is the only game that had a nebulous placement and only because it is going to get a sequel that goes into that more deeply. Also we know that it is the latest game in the timeline currently.
The only games without definitive placements are the Oracles and FSA, all made by Capcom and who have definitevly been shoved in there because they are mainline and don't interact too much with anything else.
Saying that the timeline was invented in 2011 is false simply because we have actual proof it was built since Zelda 2 and has remained coherent with interviews that have nearly 20 years now. Saying that they don't plan every game's placement before they made the first one is also true but that's like saying that the MGS timeline is moot because not all the games were planned out when the first game released. That's false and of course they are making stuff up as they are making new games but they managed to fit all of them since the first one and stick with that order for over three decades minus the Capcom ones who had minor changes.

@@ghirahimlefabuleux8984 it might have been a fan made thing, though I have a query
ALTTP said the 7 that sealed Ganon away were male, but why did only 2 of those have that gender?

There’s a game called “Majora’s Mask” at 9:55 is the one that he mentioned, but thanks to a recent AVGN episode. I saw it and it gives a homage to “The Twilight Zone” in an episode called “The Masks”.

Ah yes. Wind Waker. My second Zelda game. Also I guess my favorite since I've played that one the most. I had Zelda 2 when I was a kid. Never got far though. I sucked at games at a young age. When I played Wind Waker, I stopped playing when I got to the part when the Dark storm hit cause I got too scared. And those giant Octorocks can screw off with how terrifying they are. Eventually I was able to go back and properly finish it, and even do the entire second quest playthrough where you get to wear the outfit you started off with. even going for 100%.

I only have one issue with this, so James said Zelda was telepathically contacting Link's uncle. then why did Link hear it?
