- Step by step instructions how to replace the electronic 4wd selector on your ‘99-‘07 GM truck.
4wd selector WITH auto 4wd and BLACK buttons: amzn.to/2C1FtT3
4wd selector WITH auto 4wd and GRAY buttons: amzn.to/2ATINjW
4wd selector WITHOUT auto 4wd: amzn.to/2ABx3Wv
Thanks man, mine just went out. Already replaced the other usual suspects, the blower motor control module, oil pressure switch, instument cluster and I KNEW the 4wd was next and I was right.
How hard was the oil pressure switch to get to ?
Oil pressure switch can cause this??
do you know if you can replace the backlight bulbs inside the controller?
Unfortunately I’ve never taken the controller apart, so I’m not sure. It I’m willing to bet the lights are soldered to the circuit board or part of the buttons. I guess you could take the controller apart and at least take a peek.
Where would I get the wire itself to replace? I’m going to replace the switch out for a new one but just in case I was wanting the wires as well
You mean the connector that plugs into the 4x4 switch? I’m not sure if they sell just the connector. You’d have to search online for it or go cut one out of a truck in the junkyard.
Tony when I push the button to Ingauge my 4-DR on the selector switch it blinks an will not in gauge is this a selector switch problem
It's possible, but it could be something else, also. Is the truck running when you are trying to put it into 4wd? Also, are you trying to get into 4 hi, or 4 low?
So does that trucks transfer case have a motor or no?
Yes, and time there’s an electrical button instead of a manual shifter on the floor for 4x4, there should be a motor/actuator on the transfer case or the front axle housing depending on the vehicle.
Can the switch be part of "service 4x4"?
It’s possible but I’m not sure what’s all tied into that light. Could be the switch, the actuator itself down at the transfer case, or wiring. Switch would probably be my first try though lol
i dont have a service 4 x 4 light
@@alvendetti4600 It would be on the message center of the dash I believe or just the red error light on the switch.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy I dont have that error.
@@alvendetti4600 Well then I guess you don’t have one lol. Is there a problem?
Before replacing it, was it by chance making your dashboard click?
Hmm. I don't think so, but it did have a few moans and groans. I may have just gotten used to it. There could be little relays or something in the switch causing a clicking but I couldn't tell you for sure.
Is it bad to have the truck running when you do this?
I try to have the ignition off at least whenever doing anything related to electrical.
I tested my old switch with my multi meter, and it seemed to be bad, so I went ahead and changed it with a new one. Tested the new one with a multi meter before I installed it, and it appeared to work. However, I replaced it with the new one and the switch still won't work. It lights up initially and then nothing. Any ideas as to what to do next?
Is the “new” switch actually new? If it lights up initially, it should then display an amber light for which mode it’s in, or at least the red neutral light. Kind of weird it lights up and then nothing.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy yeah it is brand new. It seems like now it has stopped lighting up entirely. Is there a bigger issue that could make the switch go bad? I haven't yet tested the new switch with the multi meter again.
@@BerntGoodson-n6i Yeah I mean it could be a wiring issue or maybe even another module but unfortunately I’d have to have a wiring diagram in front of me to see how the circuit is laid out. Might be worth hitting the old Google and seeing if there’s any old forum posts for common fixes besides the switch itself. Wouldn’t hurt to check both fuse boxes for any blown fuses also.
Yeah I checked fuses and cleaned the electrical grounds too. I will go scour the forums and see what I can find
@@BerntGoodson-n6i did u fix? What was it
What happens if the neutral is red on the dashboard?
On the dash, or on the 4wd switch?
well done , thanks
what if you don’t have the 4wd controls and just have that cubby how do you remove it?
Good question I’ve never had to do that haha. I’d imagine the little cubby just mounts the same way as this switch since it’s in the same location. Just take your time and be careful prying it out.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy I wanna put a switch in it for a light bar but i don’t have enough room to drill a hole
@@Legendary_Frank Might be better to drill a hole and mount it beneath the cargo lamp switch
Can u put the 4WD switch in the one with the cubby?
@@tastybanana420 I just recently took it out yes you can they are interchangeable i dont know why you would want to if your awd or 2wd
If it is like that it won't drive I'm I right or wrong
If it's like what?
Mine won't drive or nothing
@@TonyTheTruckGuy it won't change out of 4x4
@@robertlongoria8406 It WILL drive then, it's just not good to drive in 4x4 all the time. Or are you saying the truck won't move?
@@TonyTheTruckGuy ya it won't move
transfer case motor buggy?
just 4h
Thanks 👍,my tahoe is killin me ! Everything went out up front . EVERYTHING . It was workin fine till I started bragging about it . Smh
Y life b like dat
replaced mine and still have a problem going from 4wd to 2wd
But it goes from 2 to 4 just fine?
correct..i wacked the unit on transfer case and it makes noise on 4 to 2 but dont engauge..auto to 2 will
@@alvendetti4600 Yeah that actuator could be on the fritz
@@TonyTheTruckGuy transfer case motor ?
@@alvendetti4600 Yeah where the electrical connector plugs in. Unless it’s on the front diff instead of
My truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado

Those switches are junk.
