    My grandson refuses to "kill" his potatoes before cooking... he likes to cook them as is so he can hear them "scream"! I wasn't sure what he meant so he showed me. Not all potatoes do it, but this batch definitely bounced around and let out a very scary, high pitched scream! I was ready to duck and cover, but thankfully no explosions!

      "kill" his potatoes before cooking, that is a good way of putting it. I feel guilty now when doing it :(

    Big on sweet potato--- short on time. Microwave for 5 minutes. Check if cooked----if not yet---microwave 2 minutes. Then put in oven 200 degrees---cook for 5 minutes or so.

    my microwave (American Home) has 4 levels of heat settings (low, med, med-high and High) but it doesnt say how hot is each setting. Would it be safe to use the 2nd highest setting or should I just go all out at High to lessen cook time?

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say go with a High setting; just see how it goes so you can adjust the time accordingly.

    Here's another time saving tip: Once the sweet potatoes are complete soft, remove them from the microwave and, using a fork, transfer the soft interior to your mouth, one bite at a time. Salt and butter optional.

    How many can I microwave at one time?

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can microwave as many sweet potatoes as you like, just add one extra minute for each extra potato.

  • @Tatjanak1989
    @Tatjanak1989 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s important to note that a microwave functions differently to an oven, in that: the more potatoes you add, the longer it will take -this is not true in the oven. Also: for even doneness, you want to flip the potatoes over halfway through.

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, that is very useful.

    Would be helpful if you said at what strength to set microwave to microwave??

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I want to microwave a sweet potato, I set the microwave to "high" or you can use medium also but it will take few minute longer then.

    I tried it … my sweet potato was soft at first when I took it out of the microwave. After 5 mins, it became clumpy & super hard like rock. Not edible at all. Any of you encountered this?

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is interesting, never countered that before. How long it was in the microwave and what was the the power setting of the microwave?

    If I do it in a kitchen oven, what difference does it make?

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To bake a sweet potato in the oven, it will take about 3 times longer. The cooking time is pretty much the only difference.

    “Place them on a microwave safe plate” proceeds to just chuck them in the microwave not on a plate… hmmm.

    • @FoodHow
      @FoodHow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can put them in the microwave without the plate, but I have noticed that the potatoes often leak a bit, so it just makes it easier to clean if on a plate, but you don't have to.
