  • Another figure using this same body. Some people love it while others hate it. Will this one do anything to swing people in either direction? Could this be the best Spider-Man figure ever?

    These are the kind of toys that become a burden on a collection. They're not worth the asking price at retail, they take up space on your shelf at home, and when you go to sell them and can't recover the original cost, you throw them in a tub where they accumulate along with all the other fodder you've impulse bought. Then one day, you're dumping them in lots just to be rid of them.
    After collecting for thirty plus years, I have only one bit of advice: don't buy them in the first place.

      I've become super choosy as of late because of these price increases. I've also been scouting around more discount places to snag a deal, that way things aren't a total loss.

      YES! From what I read on fourms, I found that most of the problems some collectors face can be chalked to them not buying figures they actually want or “want” just to say that they have it or FOMO. It pays to be picky collector. My collection isn’t big, but I have the figures I want of the characters that I care about. Most collectors tend to fall down the rabbit hole when it comes to lines like these.

      Trust me, there are a lot of people that would pay hundreds, thousands even, for Hasbro's figures.
      I'm done with Legends. I'm gonna sell my MCU figures because I don't see the point in keeping them anymore.

    Accuracy is super-important. I want a definitive version of the character I am imagining. Otherwise, it makes me feel I'm getting a meaningless piece of plastic representing someone's fan-fiction. Then, I question why I'm collecting any and it becomes a miserable rabbit hole of finding figure inconsistencies.

  • @DanielTjomlid

    The longer I've been collecting, the more I've realized that I'd rather spend a lot of money on a perfectly accurate masterpiece of a figure, instead of spending way less for a flawed figure that's going to bother me every time I look at it for the rest of my life (or until I decide to get rid of it). Plus, there are so many characters I like way too much to have a poor representation of them displayed in my house. I want anyone who visits my house to be able to see the full appeal of the character, and that's just not possible with most Marvel Legends or other similar budget lines. Of course they could just design their figures better for the same cost instead of rushing them out with horrible design oversights like they're doing now, but that's probably not gonna happen.

    Question of the Day: It varies. Sometimes a figure is “close enough” for me to be genuinely happy with it, and sometimes it’s not. I guess it depends on where the discrepancies lie. I will say that I passed on this figure because it just doesn’t look right to me. I’m hoping for a re-release of the Mafex version.

  • @zannusx

    I love when you bring out another figure with similar build to help prove your point. Hasbro drops the ball on Marvel Legends way more then some of their other lines. I suppose them making meh figures saves me money since I don't buy them.

    People keep saying these are great bodies and keep buying them blindly so Hasbro thinks they did a good job.
    I’ve heard other reviewers even say they want more characters on this body including Daredevil!
    WTF? NO! Look at any basic GI Joe Classified figure and their articulation system beats this or anything the ML team releases HANDS DOWN!

    Mafex scarlet spider is a good example of accuracy vs making the figure. As long as the change makes the figure look better, then yea. If not, why bother? Imo

    I feel like this figure would of been helped if they waited until after they made pinless joints, the paint and color of the mold and the eye sores at the knee really detract from it, and it doesn't come with a blonde head Ben Reilly sculpt accessory is really a negative against this figure. I still bought it because I like the newer sculpt over the Spider Carnage one from year ago but that one had nice play n pose options

    Still remember B*og saying the retro Spidey is better than the MAFEX, lol.
    QotD: I don't really mind if a figure isn't 100% accurate as long as it is good enough and if important details (logos and such) are well done.

  • @Mattyboy-dn4oo
    @Mattyboy-dn4oo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For me, it varies depending on the company and cost The Figma Twilight Princess Zelda had some inaccuracies on her hair braids, but the rest of the figure looks pretty darn good that I don't think too much about it. Not to mention it's Good Smile Company, they usually do their video game figures well.
    If it's a simple design that doesn't have a lot of detail, I'll be more strict on accuracy. If the face isn't accurate, that's a major turn-off for me. But for the most part, I want my figures to be between 95%-100% accurate to the source material since I want the best version of a character on display rather than multiple versions of him/her in the same design.

  • @Supertomscustoms
    @Supertomscustoms 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I personally like the flipped ab crunch and torso twist. The Classified line has been using it well. It's a much more natural range of motion. A slight hunch is all you should expect from the upper torso. If you're trying to do a crouched pose, the majority of the range of motion should come from the waist and hips. The standard waist swivel may function well, but it the overhanging obliques are much less attractive than whatever gaping you get from the torso twist. Both joints being ball pegs is probably the best way to go but then you get the weird diaper look like all the McFarlane figures.
    100% agree on the thigh gap though. I don't know if their factories have some limitation on how thin they can make the taint piece, but all of their figures look like they just finished a cross country buffalo race.

    Marvel legends as a whole has not been a home run for me for decades. I can count on one hand how many I got. Including the recent black suit Spider-Man. The only redeemable thing about them is the price. I'm sorry,WAS the price.
    These days, I rather go for the premium stuff like Mafex or Mezco tbh. There is absolutely no reason for getting into ML now.

  • @Cooleepable
    @Cooleepable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good question of the day. Well, it depends. I collect Mezco, so I expect those figures to be "Mezcofied", i.e. there is some texture added to the costumes to break up the lines and accentuate the figure beneath. That doesn't bother me, since I know what I'm getting in advance. Things like SH Figuarts MCU figures, for the price point and the months after the movie that they have to bring the figure out, I expect it to be spot on. Same for the Mafex comics figures. As for ML... sigh... I'm sadly used to disappointment. As long as they get it somewhat in the ballpark, I'm fine with it. This figure is atrocious, though. I passed on all but The Shocker from this wave, which is far from perfect, but I needed him for the villains display and he'll do for now. Shame they didn't give him a thwipping hand though. Then he really would be The Shocker.
    Edit: Re-watching the video. My god this thing truly is an abomination. I'm glad I have the old one.

    • @roachdoggjr4266
      @roachdoggjr4266 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Some companies have contractual limitations so that they aren’t allowed to have more than a certain number of points of articulation. I know companies like diamond select toys with marvel select used to have a limit. I don’t quite know if they still do but it definitely was true at some point. Now for McFarlane toys.. I think they just don’t know how to make good action figures

    • @basicfacekick
      @basicfacekick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@roachdoggjr4266 McF compromises to hit their $20 price and often it shows. Their use of a lot of new molds is eating up a lot of the budget too, I'm sure. I honestly think Todd or some senior designer is signing off on figures without so critical an eye, as long as an elbow or knee can bend in some fashion and they come in under the parts count/paint apps budget. "Good enough" in other words.

    Accuracy is definitely a factor for me on purchasing a figure, but it's not the be-all end-all. If it's close enough and I can tell who it is and I see value in the purchase, I go for it. Other figures (Like the Spider Armor) that are so far removed from what they're supposed to be are a hard pass.

    I got this figure, and whilst not as nice as the Mafex, it is decent enough, of course I love Ben Reilly Spider-Man and I love the costume design. Also, it gave me a reason to use the Spider-Carnage accessories with the first release. I might try to take the head from the original figure and put it on this one.
    I do wish the Spider design on it was better. I don't mind the eyes themselves. This figure kind of reminds more of the 90's figure more so than the comic art. In that vein, it succeeds, on some levels.
    The drop down hips do help with crouching poses, but wish this figure had a better spread and high kick.
    My biggest disappointment... accessories. For the price I would expect an alt unmaked head, and web effects would have been nice. Hell, even of they recreated the Pina that came with the 90's figures, something.
    That is my biggest gripe with Marvel Legends and the price hikes... mostly repaints, and somehow less accessories.

    On accuracy: I don't mind when the variations are easily the sort of thing that could have been different between different artists drawing the same character. That said, this logo does look like shit.

    The figure looks good, accessories are good enough (I think this should be standard set of accessories for every Spider-Man), articulation isn't the best but isn't the worst either. Overall I'll give it 8/10

      There's no reason for him not to Critique obvious flaws with it, you can still enjoy it if you want but what Anthony does is talk about big issues that Hasbro is ignoring, there needs to be a voice like this, things can't be perfect, he praises them when they do well and critiques when needed
      If you enjoy it despite the flaws, all power to you, but Hasbro proved they can do better than this

    I don’t care about accuracy, I don’t really read comics that much. I just like character designs that look cool. Also, I buy these as toys to play with my children, so it’s not worth it to me to pay $100 for a single high-end figure when I get most of these for like $10 each secondhand.

  • @BatFan1

    The higher price doesnt mean you should be getting more, it just means it's getting more expensive. like everything in the world. Heck, some companies shrink their product AND charge you more!

  • @fightclubify
    @fightclubify 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From the off it just doesn't look like a good version of Ben Riley. Not even going into it deeply, the look itself puts me off. At the increased prices that DOES matter.
    The head does look WRONG, as does the neck.
    There is just no elegance to the shape of the body. Riley is supposed to look lithe and athletic.
    This don't look like that.
    C'mon, what decisions are Hasbro enforcing on the design team that the product comes across as cheap and rushed? Are the money men at Hasbro really so cynical as to just think "Ah, f*** it. The geeky morons will lap it up anyway!"
    I actually think so.
    There's no excusing this.
    We've gotta boycott this p*** taking company until they start to respect the very fans that have made them so much bloody profit.
    I'm frustrated because I want to buy some good figures.
    The saving grace here is....that another company, Diamond Select, are doing much MUCH better, and with not much of a difference price wise (a couple of pounds, literally, here in the UK).
    BAH!
