Hey, James! To clean the cuttings, I prefer to use chemistry. I make an acid solution with an inhibitor. This greatly facilitates the cleaning process of the cast iron surface of the tool. Thank you for the video!
A lot of people like to do that. And a lot of people I absolutely hate it. It's a great way to start arguments. If I'm in a hurry or I am strapped for cash vinegar is usually the way I'll go. But you have to be careful with it.

Hey James, I Just scored a #6, #45, #55, (both with dozens of knives), and a Keen Kutter #7. Getting pretty lucky considering I'm in Hawaii. Could you direct me to a how to video for the #45 or #55? Thanks in advance... ...and aloha forever 🤙
I have probably around 8 to 10 videos on that topic. Here's one of them. th-cam.com/video/_x93L1_zaDo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HZOxzhinb6-__kCZ looking forward to being in Hawaii in 2 weeks. Will be on oahu.

I have a question on planes. I have an old jointers body without the iron or capiron and I see no markings on it whatsoever besides a number 2 by the tote. Does anybody know what it is so I can buy a new iron?
sorry I just saw this. you can find the email on the about tab of the channel profile page. or you can use the contact me form on my website woodbywright.com
If the plane does not perform as expected that might be something I check. But 95% of the time the soul does not need to be touched on the plane. A lot of emphasis is put on it from power tool people and perfectionists but in the real world it doesn't need that much.
The Hand Tool Rescue move at the sand blaster was spot on. Well played!
That moment you start using the sandblaster got me! 😂 Love it! Keep up the great work.
I have a restored Stanley No.7 plane too. While I don't use it that often, it's great when you do need it! Lovely job Sir!
Wow, great job restoring the plane. Beautiful work!
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Pure therapy just watching your videos James. Ten thumbs up!
That's a beauty, James! Amazing work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
It looks great. Nice work. Did the japanning bake make your kitchen stink like tar?
It does for a little while but it evaporates quickly. It's just the turpentine evaporating out.
Beautifully done. A joy to watch.
That looks as if it is brand new.
Great restore

Using the beautiful Richter to clean the tar?! Now that is something I would do. :)
Great work👍
Very Timely! I just picked up a #7 Type 17 that needs just a touch of TLC.
Just a comment of thanks for another great video...
Just cleaned up a Stanley #2. It was a gentle cosmetic cleanup due to the rarity of the plane. Still looks every bit of 1892.

Iove your videos. Think about getting a set of hollow ground gunsmith screwdrivers. They are much less likely to bugger the screws.
How do you feel about powder coating rather than japaning the frame?
That is great. Extremely durable.
Well done! #8?
