Yes, I'd say mostly Growing Pains (especially the aging up photos and theme song) and Family Ties (painting the family portrait), with a bit of Full House added in (family picnic scene).
Full House, Growimg Pains, Family Ties, Roseanne all used the "aging up" in the opening credits. Something kinda nostaligic and familiar about it... makes the character's actually feel like family. The picture sequence showing them age from childhood to adult hood in the 80s episode, I don’t remember that ever being part of full house. However they did do it on family ties as well as growing pains. Also important to note the opening bit with the family portrait is being painted by a paintbrush, that is the iconic opening of family ties. On first watch, my wife instantly recognized the homage to Gilmore Girls in the town square Halloween show. I had seen a little of the show but wouldn’t have recognized this detail. I haven’t seen anyone mention that similarity until now - good catch. It wasn’t just the look of the town; the quick pace of the dialogue during that scene is definitely Gilmore Girls
The only reason why that episode gives Gilmore Girls vibes is because the town set is the exact same one at the WB back lot in Burbank. Thing is, it was used in the majority of the episodes - this one in particular just happened to display the gazebo more prominently. Besides GG and WV, the city set is used for many other shows and movies.
@@ryanholmquist8268 It actually is not the same place. GG was filmed on the WB backlot but WandaVision was filmed at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch an hour outside of Los Angeles. While it does give GG Harvest Festival vibes, that was not the showrunners intention. It was just a sitcom Halloween episode. GG was not one of the shows they referenced.
@@ryanholmquist8268 I thought the exact same thing when I first watched it. Gilmore Girls is still one of my favorite shows and when I see a gazebo, I see Stars Hallow & I see Kirk doing something strange in front of it 🤗. But it seemed strange that they would reference GG since it's not a sitcom. I finally found an article from the showrunners that mentioned the filming locations for the show & found out about the Ranch. Aside from pretty much every Disney movie I watched as a child, there are several shows that used both locations for filming, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Office (Schrute Farms!) which it why it looks so familiar.
The growth photos for the intro in episode 5 are a reference to Growing Pains, and the painting is a reference to Family Ties. So it covered Full House, Growing Pains, and Family Ties.
I got the GG vibe, the town square in Westview had the same vibe as the town square in Star's Hollow, both from the iconic gazebo but also from the whole town getting together in the square to celebrate (just like in GG). I never lived in a small town so this concept is foreign to me and my only reference point was how the town in Gilmore Girls had an event almost every episode.

Still others might not have been alive for that time period where the shows that are being referenced were on.
For the part about Full House, the song along with the photos also gave me a strong "Growing Pains" vibe. Would have been nice to mention it as well as I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for.
@@gloriaaportillo No, no, the Growing Pains reference was huge. The drawing to portrait was Family Ties and the picnic shots were Full House, but the photos of each cast member at different stages of their life, of them each “growing up,” followed by a shot of them on the show, was specifically Growing Pains. Even the song they came up felt extremely similar to the Growing Pains theme song. The song did also sound similar to the Family Ties song (both themes have in common a a man and woman singing), but the little electric guitar lick was pure Growing Pains.
The dinner scene in the 1st ep where Vision’s boss starts choking and his wife doesn’t realize it, comes from The Twilight Zone with the background music to support it. The Twilight Zone may not b a sitcom, but it is an element for that scene.
The cameras used were amazing the stills look exactly from each respective era. the 90s-2000s was really cool to see because everything was spot on. loveddd the cinematography

Gilmore Girls wasn’t an inspiration for the aughts-based episode. The town set they used (for the majority of episodes, not just for the Halloween scenes) is a part of the WB back lot in Burbank. It only came off as more obvious in this episode due to the use of color and the prominence of the gazebo. The WB back lot - the town square and other buildings and streets surrounding it - is used by many, many other series and movies. Gilmore Girls only happened to make the most extensive use of the town square. An example of another popular show shot there is Friends, specifically in scenes that take place on the street outside of Central Perk. If you pay close attention to shots (in both GG and WV, iirc) in which the narrow street with taller buildings is visible, you should be able to see where Friends was filmed.
They actually shot the series on Golden Oak Ranch since it's disney owned property. WB isn't letting the mouse on their shooting lots and they aren't forking the money over to them either, lbr. They added the gazebo into the set, likely as a nod to Gilmore Girls and other series shot on the WB lot.
You forgot to mention the Dick Van Dyke "tripping over the ottoman" gag. th-cam.com/video/RL1t2MLrkgU/w-d-xo.html Vision almost trips over the ottoman in the opening to the WandaVision first episode, but then catches himself by phasing through the ottoman instead. In later seasons, Dick Van Dyke would also catch himself just before tripping. Priceless.
At 3:45 there is one slight mistake when talking about the Full House Cover. Michael Gross was not in Full House but was instead in Family Ties. It was just a slight error but wondered if anyone else noticed. I know it was referenced later but just wanted to clear that slight thing up. Great video comparison though. 🙂
The shuttered opening in between kitchen and living/dining area in episode 1 were exactly like the Dick van Dyke show. It really took me back. Great job.
Wanda is so relatable I am obsessed with sitcoms. I watched Full House, Superstore, Mr Iglecias, Great News, Fuller House, Modern Family and all one of sitcoms on Netflix
Those end credits you showed in the video are the standard disney+ end credits. They're the same across all Marvel shows as well as The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.
I really want a wandavision sitcom where Wanda has a happy family with vision, her kids and brother making a havoc with their powers and other avengers making cameo each in one episode. 👨👩👦👦🤩
This is super helpful if you dont live in the US. I knew about all of the sitcoms you mentioned, but didnt exactly have reruns on repeat growing up. The show felt very thematic but I didnt realise quite how literal the homages were sometimes!!!
The only part of episode 5 that acknowledged Full House was the running in the park and picnic. The rest of the intro was a blend of Family Ties and Growing Pains, which were two extremely popular shows in the 80’s.
i love that they also used the exact same kitchen as modern family. when I was watching wandavision on my computer (and modern family was playing on my TV across from me) I about had a stroke! lmao, I had to do a double take!
You're missing a lot of references here. The 80s era episode was heavily influenced by Growing Pains as well (Bohner). The 60s era episode was influenced more by Bewitched than I Dream of Jeannie.
I know a lot of people talked about the wrong word choice in this video, I’m just gonna say it again lol The show was supposed to “copy” the popular sitcoms, because Wanda made her world looks like the sitcoms she watched, believing sitcom is her answer to happiness

@@jeden75 Wow, I didn’t know about that set. It looks strikingly similar to the WB back lot. I stand corrected!
As introverted as Elizabeth Olsen seems, she is so good around fans and so kind too. I love seeing her on screen.
The growth photos for the intro in episode 5 are a reference to Growing Pains, and the painting is a reference to Family Ties. So it covered Full House, Growing Pains, and Family Ties.
I felt the Malcolm in the Middle episode was also a homage to Disney shows of the time, not Gilmore Girls.
@@michaelrizzello3763 The only reason why that episode gives Gilmore Girls vibes is because the town set is the exact same one at the WB back lot in Burbank. Thing is, it was used in the majority of the episodes - this one in particular just happened to display the gazebo more prominently. Besides GG and WV, the city set is used for many other shows and movies.
@@ryanholmquist8268 You know I thought the same thing and went to IMDB and saw the Disney Ranch as the location for that shoot. Apparently, some of the town was CGI (Gazebo too apparently). It could have been cool to see Luke's in the background though...
@@michaelrizzello3763 I’ve watched so much GG that I’ve memorized the facade of Luke’s, so every time I see the town square set in a show, I tune out what’s actually happening and solely look for Luke’s in the background haha
I love how people in the comments are trying to be smartasses by saying _THaTs thE pOiNT oF ThE sHOW!_ as if the video isn't just explaining all the inspirations so people who haven't sold their soul to Wandavision the way we did, can get all the references too
just to clear up some confusion, some comments were saying that the old title was "shows that wandavision copied"
I cant. Oml. anyways basically i kept seeing comments like yours but never actually saw any of the comments that were being referenced. Scroll down and the vey next comment is say “that’s the point though”
Anyways i do agree with what you said. Not everyone has latched themselves onto wanda vision the way some people have. Still others might not have been alive for that time period where the shows that are being referenced were on.
Somehow, Agnes made me remember The Nanny in that episode where she tries to calm the babies down.
And 4 years from The Nanny, we kinda have the rip off/parody of Fran Drescher: Janice Litman Goralnik nee Housenstein
Yeah, I think the nostalgia is part of what made the show so good to me. The acting is amazing!
This show was a piece of ART
When darcy and vision were driving it had the right camera angle
Loved that small recap of the ‘Growing Pains’ intro
For the part about Full House, the song along with the photos also gave me a strong "Growing Pains" vibe. Would have been nice to mention it as well as I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for.
It was more of Family Ties and Full House
I got the "Growing Pains" vibe, as well!
@@jtb65t Same here. th-cam.com/video/P4gUzIgqr0c/w-d-xo.html
I don't think it had anything to do with Full House at all.
3:44... To my recollection, Michael Gross was in Family Ties, not Full House!? And the drawings are referencing Family Ties too.
I don’t really think y’all understand wandavison. It is supposed to copy other sitcoms every episode is a different era
That's the point, everyone knows that, Wanda copy the sitcoms because she watched them
That’s... the whole point of the video? They’re just pointing out which ones it copies?
@@ellieofthebeast7952 just read my other response to you
and i don’t think you understand the video lol
Geez you fans are annoying as hell. Always saying “you don’t get it” and “that’s the whole point”. Shut up.
The dinner scene in the 1st ep where Vision’s boss starts choking and his wife doesn’t realize it, comes from The Twilight Zone with the background music to support it. The Twilight Zone may not b a sitcom, but it is an element for that scene.
Elizabeth needs an Emmy 🤧💯♥️
TRUE
The cameras used were amazing the stills look exactly from each respective era. the 90s-2000s was really cool to see because everything was spot on. loveddd the cinematography
This is why this is my fav series because I grew up watching decade of sitcoms❤️
I wasn’t born in the same era of all of the shows, but I knew what they were while watching, because my parents showed me almost every t.v show.
I love how this show was basically a glorified homage to the TV of yesteryear.
The Jingle used for the office sounds so close to the instrumental miraculous stings that play when there is a headtfelt moment or a big jaw drop
Actually the 'i ❤️ wanda' mug is a reference of Mitchell's 'i ❤️ me' mug☺️
50's- I Love Lucy/Dick Van Dyke Show
60's- Bewitched/I Dream of Jeannie
70's- The Brady Bunch/The Partridge Family/The Mary Tyler Moore Show
80's- Family Ties/Growing Pains/Full House
90's/2000;s- Malcolm in the Middle
2010's- The Office/Modern Family/Happy Endings
This show was so clever for this! And all the music, too!
The opening to this ep is more like happy endings than the office.
Ya, I was about to say she was still saying _Full House_ when the comparison was _Family Ties._
I just finished watching this last night and all I can say is WOW. My mind is still blown after a good night's sleep.
They nailed every area perfectly and it is incredible, oh what I would give to see this series one more time without knowing what is happening:(
The shuttered opening in between kitchen and living/dining area in episode 1 were exactly like the Dick van Dyke show. It really took me back. Great job.
It's kinda ironic how Olsen's twin was in Full House.
Olsen twins, not olsen's twin, they are older to her and she doesn't have a twin, outside the mcu that is😅
I wished in the 90s episodes would have also referred friends but I loved what they gave us
Her Claire is so good. The mannerisms and everything
Night Nurse
the creativity of this show is so underrated
I loved how the show referenced I Love Lucy
This show brings me unimaginable comfort
You forgot how WandaVision included the opening of the Bewitched movie opening scene thing , where it starts of saying that the house is sold.
The modern era was an absolute favorite! (Along with every other decade, let’s be honest). The camera side-eyes and confession cams were so hilarious.
I cant be the only one who got mad when she didn't roll her R when saying Pietro's name ✋🥲
The thumbnail, though. 😮🤯 Perfect parallel.
I like how this show is made just so unique
Wanda is so relatable I am obsessed with sitcoms. I watched Full House, Superstore, Mr Iglecias, Great News, Fuller House, Modern Family and all one of sitcoms on Netflix
I really like all the different eras they did in WandaVision! And I'm happy mine was in there lol
Early 2000s!
As a German, I really appreciate this video because I didn’t grow up on these shows and it lets me appreciate the references more :)
I hadn't clocked the Star's Hollow look.
Also, the episode 5 intro was showing somebody painting characters which is also a tribute to the Family Ties intro.
That "full house" homage was not Full House... it was Family Ties.
It was mostly inspired by the Family Ties intro but it had a little Full House in there too with the picnic and running scenes
Cool video! I'm sure the producers appreciate y'all noticing and sharing!
The 80’s were based on Family Ties and Growing Pains.
It's so underrated how the actors, especially Elizabeth Olsen, perfectly change tone and acting style for each decade. Unreal skill.
Imagine wanda living in a golden girls inspired universe
That would be hilarious!
This is super helpful if you dont live in the US. I knew about all of the sitcoms you mentioned, but didnt exactly have reruns on repeat growing up. The show felt very thematic but I didnt realise quite how literal the homages were sometimes!!!
I didn’t know Gilmore girl was a “ sitcom “ I just think of it as a show
The only part of episode 5 that acknowledged Full House was the running in the park and picnic. The rest of the intro was a blend of Family Ties and Growing Pains, which were two extremely popular shows in the 80’s.
to go from this to dr.strange.....I love Lizzie!!!
i love that they also used the exact same kitchen as modern family. when I was watching wandavision on my computer (and modern family was playing on my TV across from me) I about had a stroke! lmao, I had to do a double take!
Kathryn Kahn nailed the whole sitcom aspect.
Probably the most creative series I've ever seen. Outstanding.
“Agatha al along” font are from 50’s show “Twilight Zone”
True! The song is definitely a reference to The Munsters though
I think the Munsters borrowed that from TZ!
the mug has reminded me mitchell's mug that says 'i love me'
You're missing a lot of references here. The 80s era episode was heavily influenced by Growing Pains as well (Bohner). The 60s era episode was influenced more by Bewitched than I Dream of Jeannie.
I love the references to the sitcoms in WandaVision.
Fun fact : Kathryn Hahn auditioned for The Office
I'm not even american, but I grew up watching these shows just like wanda, so I'm happy with the much effort they put to make it similar..
That’s the whole point of the show though
Right
Exactly
No one’s surprised that they referenced old shows, the video is just showing the comparisons side by side
& u missed the point of the video.....
@@1VAN1378 you know you could just edit your comment and add on to it you don’t have to keep commenting things
I got so excited when i realized they were referencing Malcom In The Middle bc it's one of my fav sitcoms!!
I know a lot of people talked about the wrong word choice in this video, I’m just gonna say it again lol
The show was supposed to “copy” the popular sitcoms, because Wanda made her world looks like the sitcoms she watched, believing sitcom is her answer to happiness
The I
Awesome video 👌
